Dow can be a helpful addition but why does everyone think he's a walkup starter? What has he done to show he can walk straight into our midfield without getting a run in the VFL? Absolutely perplexed at why so many fans keep suggesting this.

I would absolutely rather see Steele, Ross, Windhager, Garcia, Phillipou again this week than inject Dow straight into the middle with no competitive game minutes at any level this season.

I'm making the trip BTW. My third Power match in Adelaide. Have always found the Power fans to be friendly and gracious.
I think your onto something there Punter.

I strongly believe that butter wouldn't melt in their mouths.

It would vaporize.....!!!!!!!

;) ;)

He was brought into the club to add to our midfield. If he goes to the VFL we know what he will do, he will dominate which he always does at that level. He's a long term addition to the midfield and our midfield has been very poor, walk up starter for mine. Might take time to get going sure but he will improve us.

Yeah, gotta be better than how Jones is going, surely

Dow will help us massively in my opinion. Don't expect him to come in and be Chris Judd, but he will improve our midfield which is important.

Dow has good qualities that none of our other mids do. That is why he has the potential to make a positive impact on our midfield.

Dow on the inside, Henry on the outside could very well really improve the effectiveness of our midfield unit.

Plus if Windy keeps improving as he has so far this year it could be an interesting run home.

Steele Crouch Dow Windy Henry gives us a good mix.

Wishful thinking on your part stfan but in reality, that's all we have at this stage.

Our midfield unit has not exactly been humming along this year.

without getting a run in the VFL? Absolutely perplexed at why so many fans keep suggesting this.

Here is a list of our mids with burst pace:

1/ Dow
2/ There is now no one else. Jones is shot. Henry is injured.

Now Windy has shown a bit more toe at stoppages this year, but Dow is quicker.

Garcia has shown a bit but has only played 1.3 games

I would absolutely rather see Steele,
Steele is a lock.

But Ross as an inside mid is not

He has not be all good this year as an inside mid this season.

Windhager,

Yes good year so far with his midfield time.

Promising, but let us just keep rotating him through their and HF while he builds experience

Phillipou

His midfield work has been poor. Dow will most likely be a vast improvement, plus Dow has burst pace.

again this week than inject Dow straight into the middle with no competitive game minutes at any level this season.

Will make him better for the following two games against Hawks and North. It will help him a lot to have a game roving to Marshall and working with the midfield unit.

Dow not on injury list, King a test.

Dow in for Jones
Collard in for Butler (it's a specific role and he's our next best option)
King in for Caminiti (he's stiff, but I think we need Sharman on the larger ground)

Wishful thinking
Well I am a St Kilda fan ;)

I think there are very good reasons why went after both Henry and Dow, and the slow pace of most our existing mids is one of them.

Now yes it would have better better to have landed a gun quick extractor, but none were available. So instead we went after gettable players in an are of need.

So I am not saying that Dow will suddenly be an absolute gun with us, but I do believe that he has the potential to improve our mainly slow paced existing group of mids.

Pity about Wood, but he may be back for North, Hawks games by the sounds of it.

The other consideration, specifically about North tanking/not tanking last year, is that I think that had they had Pick 1 the AFL would have been more hesitant to hand them the start of first round compo pick for Mackay.

I know theres little difference between pick 2 and 3 but I think as far as palatability it was much easier for the AFL to justify allowing North to have picks 2 and 3 rather then pick 1 and 2. Had they had pick 1 I dont think the afl would have manipulated the compo and instead would have given them mid round comp, aka pick 10ish which is much closer to his actual value.
AFL manipulate the comp whenever they want.
James Frawley should never have been a pick 3 compensation for the Dees.

Just like they manipulate the NGA picks.

Glad to hear Andrew Bassett is making a stink about the Northern academies, F/S picks etc. They’ve been complete freebies to certain clubs.

Yeah fair point, impossible to tell really - but quite possibly that's what the AFL communicated to the club. Don't lose this on purpose or you won't get the extra compo!
So, draft tampering….

Sorry, but I literally just landed back yesterday morning from a business trip to the USA. It was 17 days and I spent most of my time over there jet-lagged to buggery. I did some good work in the USA but was fighting to stay awake in some meetings, depending on the time of day. You can function, but you are not at your best. It is obviously not as severe with only domestic travel here, but everything that impacts the normal routine of an elite athlete has the potential to impact their performance. And a difference of 1% can be the difference between winning and losing at the elite level.....

Yet you can fly to Bali or Thailand and hit the ground running. International travel into northern hemisphere time zones isn’t relevant.

If you play midfield and have two legs you could walk into our midfield.

I've done Germany a few times.
I find it best to get totally inebriated, timing passing out around 12 hours before due to get up. ( it can be surreal when you fly in early in the morning and you are wandering around town pissed as a newt ).

Next day, i'm kind of reset in my new time zone. Germans are also good at plying you with alcohol in the evenings, so you have no trouble sleeping at the right time of day.

I guess these methods would be off limits for AFL players :D.

What? I explicitly stated that domestic travel is far less taxing!! Northern hemisphere is not relevant, it is travelling west or east that matters as time zones are what affects you, and USA is a big hit as the time difference is very significant. And as I stated, for an elite athlete, one to four hours confined in an artificial environment combined with the disruption to their normal routine, may be enough to reduce their performance by 1%, but at the elite level, 1% can be the difference.
Now the difference in the current level between say Geelong and WCE may be too great to be offset by Geelong having to go and play WCE in Perth, but if the teams were roughly evenly matched (say Geelong were currently 10th on the ladder and WCE currently 12th on the ladder), that travel for Geelong may well be an influencing factor (amongst a myriad of other influencing factors) to contribute to WCE winning the game.
Pressurized cabin air travel has measurable effects on your body.

I have tried the inebriation method, but unfortunately do too much travel to make it viable long term solution. And unfortunately for me, Melatonin seems to have little effect on me.... even the good stuff from Singapore....:pensive:

Flying to Adelaide Sydney and Canberra isn’t taxing. They need to harden up if that ****s them up
