Whys that bumps, haven't seen a game this year.is he struggling ?

I haven't seen his stats for today but it didn't seem like he got the ball too much. The previous couple of matches he turned it over a lot. Not so bad with the turnovers today but just didn't seem to get himself involved in the play a lot. I'm prepared to cut him a fair bit of slack though since he's only played a handful of matches over the last two years due to his two ACLs but I think he would be expecting to be dominating play a bit more than he is at the moment. Would be interested to hear what others think of his game today.

Obrien gonna make it as an afl player? For those at the game...

I wouldn't count on Miles putting on kegs in the gym.

Yes i believe so, was at the game, very natural forward. Looks like he's going to struggle to bulk up. Reminds me a lot of gunston in movement and physique. Unfortunately probably not room for 2 of those in a team.

Do you have the Footy Live app? They are up on that. It takes an eternity for them to come up on the VFL website.

WWSD posted some of them them on another thread so I'll re-post them here for you.

Thanks for that, that's not to bad.spewn since the ABC lost the TV rights could allways watch the replay later on iveiw.

There really wasn't a bad player today, just some that were better than others! Yes, it's annoying there is no replay of the televised game.

Miles an absolute gem. That is all that needs to be said. Racks up heaps of the ball, plays small like a Puopolo, then goes mental in the backline and takes players on similar to Litherland. I heard someone say he has a bit of Bob Murphy about him, but don't think he plays well as a tall. Just a solid player.

Most players had a decent game. I thought it was interesting to note the transition of Willsmore from a forward last season, then gets a senior contract, and we play him as a random half-back, winger, half-forward? Don't recall him kicking many goals this season at all. Lots of loose uncontested marks.

Can't fault anyone's game except just Pittonet still needs experience to win the ruck contests. I'm sure most of you saw the televised game so don't need to state too much. Happy with it all. Go Box Hill

We don't see it much on TV naturally, but in your opinions was it a pretty good crowd?

Solid crowd for a BH home game, had to park miles away! Although we've loved to hate them in recent years, Port always bring a passionate mob to our games. Respect them for that.

Today really felt like the complete Box Hill performance you'd hope for from an elite AFL club affiliate. With a clutch of AFL premiership players, several AFL-ready depth players and some fast tracking young talent, it was a pretty daunting line-up. You could potentially throw Anderson, Howe and a couple more Hawthorn fall-backs in there too.

I totally agree with you. We expect him to be better but he does have mitigating circumstances. Disposal efficiency isn't quite there but I believe in another four weeks or so he will have cemented a place in the Hawthorn team.

The best thing about the TV coverage of the VFL is that they've only really got the one camera. The camera just follows the ball and the perspective is always from an elevated point on centre wing. Only time the shot changes is for a snap zoom if it's down in a 50 or on the far wing.

No reverse angles, no ground level shots (except for showing the bench where relevant) and no bloody close ups of star players doing nothing while the game is playing on elsewhere.

Never feel disorientated or find myself yelling "show the ****ing play!" While watching the VFL. Great example of less is more.

When they do the grand final at etihad, they have a bit more elevation. Its so superior to the afl stuff

But brownie needs to stop saying hawthorn, theyre not in the VFL....

This.

If you watch soccer they do the same thing. One camera on the wing and just follow the ball in a panned out shot. You can see the play unfold and players making the run ahead.

Why broadcasters want to be so zoomed all the time beyond me.

It's the reverse angles that get me.

Smaller, rectangular field does help in that regard. My hate is on the random zooming which does not include the ball. It's nice every now and then to see up close shots of packs and the ferocity and skill required in order to extract the ball and move it forward but the primary concern needs to be the play. Replays of non-critical things happening while the ball is in motion also high up on the frustration list. Or the wrong replay...

I'm not sure on O'Brien, I feel his development has stagnated the last couple of years.

I think Miles will be fine when he grows into his body a bit, some blokes just take a bit longer to fill out. Will never be a beast I don't suppose but I expect he'll add enough bulk to make it in the seniors.

From the little I have seen of obrien, I'm a little worried. He really lacks strength (long thin legs don't help at all with being strong and grounded) and lacks that aggressive nature at ball or man. Which you can be lenient with as long as he has great side to side movement, overall agility etc, which he doesn't have. hes basically a straight line player.

As for Miles, the club won't push to bulk him up. They don't really believe in it these days. Some clubs still do a lot more than others. What you will see is more just a natural maturation of his body over the next 5 years, with a little help from some very basic resistance work to push it along.

With all players drafted at the club now, the natural body shape they have, size etc is what you can expect they will always have, with some natural progression within their genetics.

Langers was a bit of a concern. He's obviously been sent back to work on his disposal and decision making and neither were too flash yesterday. He looks great when he tucks the ball under the arm and takes off but there's just too many times when he gets it and doesn't look or take the best option. A few weeks at box hill to improve this and he'll be back.

When ure streaming forward and under no pressure you have to hit up a target as a hawthorn player.
