I had to rush my Mum home quickly after her Mothers day lunch so I could jump on here to see how many of the smart arses from last week were ribbing me about how well Sharman played today.
Good to see you admit he played well last week

Good for you

I don’t see it.

Doesn’t defend well, doesn’t take ground, doesn’t use it well, can’t tackle, doesn’t hurt in any way really.

Agree Hill was back to his insipid ways of the Ratts era today.
He’s not Superman, but he’s a GOP that might develop into something more.
Given that he’s cracking in, I’m all for keeping him there.
The other guy needs a rocket.

Having sat there and suffered all of it, I do have a different perspective from reading the majority of comments.
Adelaide played really well, they spread wide from right back in their defence and ran wide to that lead too.
Split us open and used their speed and skills to advantage back through the corridor.
We were playing the same way we have all year, and that’s useless if your lockdown gear is getting blown apart and you don’t have the defensive speed to run with the opposition.
A lot of the bad plays were due to simple skill errors (Wood kicking into the man, Battle hitting his pass away from the direction of Sharman’s lead).
Some were due to poor effort (BRADLEY HILL tapping to the opposition???).
Some were due to exhaustion (Owens, Higgins and Byrnes in particular worked really hard).
A lot were due to trying to create play but just stuffing it up.
RTB wants them to create play!

However, this game is a good “audit”. 😂😂😂

Key areas to address:

One of Ross, Steele or Crouch needs to be replaced in that starting midfield role.
They are not the future.
Time to start grooming the kids.
I see Windhager has had a good game at Sandy, put him in plus replace the injured Steele with Bytel.
That’s fine for next week, but needs to be done more than that.
Max definitely in next week, replacing Membery.
Sharman is a very lucky fellow. At one point today he had no idea what he was doing, completely lost positioning. I cannot see him long term, think he’s just going to be a not quite footballer.

We need a KPD not named Howard.
Tex schooled him, so they swapped him and Wilkie.
Meaning Wilkie was undersized, playing on Tex and being creamed, while Howard had the easiest job on Fogarty. This took away Cal’s intercept influence.
Plus, does Howard have only one hand and arm? You would think so looking at his “marking” efforts. Spoiling should not be your number one wood when you’re that tall and that quick.
Unless you’re not a good footballer to begin with.
I hope Van Es is a pearler.

Billings is not the answer, he did very little at Sandringham and needs more match time anyway.

Definitely need help for Marshall, we will do a Cripps to Owens otherwise.

Anyone know we started Pou at CHF and CHB in first and second?

Otherwise, today is the same garbage I have been watching for a decade.

I wasn't at the game obviously but that was generally my take as well.

Outside of the jump which was more midfield than anything else, we just didn't get close since random breaks for random reasons when we were up and since I really only have at present King and Higgins as a lock for that F50, it's just frustration central this year for anyone stationed there as you're just copping punishment weekly.

Sharman full agreement, man has talent that is obvious enough to see however his core issue for mine has always been his presence on that field where he just has none either with opposition or teammates so what's the point of being there? He does not scream natural footballer so I'm not sure we can carry him at present, and I still continue to lol with Butler, he's a smart footballer in a midget body so it's almost like playing with a teen so that screams tease with me as enough to persist with so long as there's not a stiff breeze to blow him over.

Howard is just lazy for me I've decided. Stocker is brilliant since he's a mongrel and scraps for it, Battle similar where you can depend on them to pressure in D50 regardless, Wilkie is the brains of the operation and Howard should be the wall only he half efforts, doesn't read the ball at all in flight, straight loses it, sticks that random hand, foot or his entire body at it and flops. I'm not 100% that he's there 100%, we just don't have anyone to try elsewise at present.

Midfield wise, I like Ross as a player, really think he's a barometer for us since he's normally the one gut running and sacrificing for others to release, but we really can't carry him, Steele and Crouch having down instances, especially if Hunter is in there on rotation. That just screams "please run away from me" to me as none of them will chase beyond bare minimums.

Pou at CHF and CHB I am convinced that he's in those positions since we lack them in truth, which is why Keeler was a such a nice pick up and why we hope Van Es progresses, as Pou is such a natural size and kick of the ball, there he is filling those roles since smart footballer. it helps learn whilst also trying to sure up where we lack without shoving Owens or Membrey there really.

For me, we really should not have rushed Steele and Membrey into the squad, that was our detriment.

Never thought he played well last week, cheep stats against an ammo side are meaningless, but I wanted to let his fanclub celebrate his small wins without me reminding them he is way off AFL pace, still haven't seen anything to suggest he will be on the list next year. Obviously Ross will cut the list hard at seasons end. Today just showed us that in the rawest possible way.

Pretty obvious that the opposition have picked holes in the Lyon game- now what?
Jury still out for me one that one, any game plan gets picked a part when you f up that often when you actually have the ball, several goals conceded in the next chain from when we mess up a certain shot on goal on our end. Score off turnover was off the chart - Adelaide had scored more off turnover at half time than we have allowed in any full game.
The question is why, shit skills or not working hard enough off the ball to present options, or the likely option of both.

Lets hope we have some players left after RTB lost them all after dropping Cordy

Yep, our list management hasn’t been amazing, we’re still some way off unless there’s some drastic improvement somewhere
Our future is looking bright still I think,
We have some amazing kids, probably a better crop than Crom still I think.

They got us with their seniors today.
Sloane, Walker, Smith, Laird all among the best today, all 30.

Our senior brigade: Ross, Hill, Wood and Crouch.

Thought Port picked our game apart as did the Crows

We will be ok but going to take a while longer then we thought a few weeks ago

Think our Kids are doing great thought it was our more experienced players that let us down today Howard - Ross - Hill - Marshall

Crows List is very good and have been building nicely

Tour continues.
Tonight it is the themed event meal.
Theme is beans.
In other words, I’m off for a Mexican.
Beans means Heinz. As in hindsight. As in I shouldn't have had beans last night.

I have seen the presser and so a few things to know about RTB is that ex players of his have always said that he looks out for them, shields them from external pressures, and empowers them to continue to improve and perform.

RTB doesn't mince his words but I don't believe he is being truthful externally in what he's thinking. I think it was quite clear to me that he is playing it off with the media so they don't come after the playing group and/or he adds fuel to the fire by answering their questions in a certain way.

What I think is probably going on is that he has given/will give them a hiding either immediately post-game or during the week, however to control the narrative externally he is downplaying the performance.

I just cannot for the life of me believe that he's so flippant about a 10 goal loss with such insipid effort. It's not who he is historically. If that has changed over the years then God help us all however I am confident that it hasn't.

He said the other week that he has to watch what he says publicly because the players are very coachable, the only difference I think could be that he's already spoken to them and laid out a plan moving forward - how he will handle the week externally and internally and what he expects of them in that space too.

Surely. He's not an absolute halfwit, there's always a purpose behind his public messaging.

That's the vibe I got.

Diff is we are all here.
Unlike yourself who went into hiding last week when he had a half decent game.

Port probably did at points, but they won off 4 goals in 7 minutes in the 2nd quarter, the rest of the match was trading goals to lose by 7. So I wouldn't say it is a broken down system at this point. If we wern't turnover merchants it allows the defensive system to operate more efficiently.

We were flat but the Crows couldn’t do a thing wrong out there today. Nailed all their shots from all angles and the 50/50 balls bounced in their laps. Thought we looked likely in the 2nd Qtr but had to chase the game after that.

Can’t wait for Max to be back.

The Crows outperformed their xG by 20 points today, which is pretty substantial.
You can't help but think that having King down there would help out massively with the forward structure.

I didn't want to embarrass myself by blowing bubbles up his bum for a very average game where he collected a few cheap stats against an ammo side but I was happy for his fanclub to celebrate his game. Ironically he was also dropped last year after 2 games against North and the Crows. He just isn't up to AFL standard unfortunately.

When we play at our best under Ross we get an early lead and then use the scoreboard pressure to help defend it.

When you give up an early lead like we did today there is no scoreboard pressure and the opposition just gets more confidence kicking for goal.

Today was more like our performances under Richo or Ratten where we would start slowly, cough up an early lead and then have to chase the game.

You don't win many games like that, Collingwood might be able to but we aren't Collingwood.
