Round 5: Vs Warriors (away): Roys Won: 121 - 60

This week was all about one player, who thoroughly deserved the spotlight, the glory and a performance to match. This week, Mobbs played his 50000000th 5th 105th (Oh, I give up) game of Qooty. The Roys, the league and the universe celebrated the milestoneā€¦

Twenty goals oneā€¦.. You wouldnā€™t want to be the player who blotted this copybook, would youā€¦ A league record for the most accurate performance (I think) ā€“ letā€™s just assume it is ā€“ in a great display from the Roysā€¦.

Amusingly, based upon what was to follow, the Warriors took an early lead, Mooch then walked the ball in for a goal, Beandip then followed up with our second. Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever , then hotchilli and then fitzroybowiedog all slotted majors. 5 straight at the first change.

Barrels, Mooch and Zevon then split the sticks for goals in the 2nd, before royboy2 , Zevon and FBD decided a few more goals were required to close out the half. 11 without a miss at the main break.

Mooch slotted another, then {redacted}, then Mooch again, then royboy2 and then Mooch again (I really should just copy and paste this bit) nailed goals. The Warriors made a brief attempt to put some respectability on the scoreboard, but Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever and Zevon nicely finished off a great day for the Roys and Mobbs in particular.

Best: 6 goals to Mooch, 3 to Zevon, Wosh , @FBD, Dingster, _Mike_ , Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever were all prominent. Lore quickly adapted to the pace of the league with a reliable performance down back.

Round 6: Vs Bombers (home): Roys Lost: 109 - 116

Iā€™m not reading through this thread a second timeā€¦. No wayā€¦.

Best: A few outstanding overall performances from Zevon, fitzroybowiedog, hotchilli, with a few supporting roles in different areas ā€“ such as royboy2 ā€™s 13 handballs and _Mike_ ā€˜s 10 of the same. Aristotle Pickett had 7 kicks for 4 goals 3, Wosh and Allikat dominated the ruck ā€“ but sadly too few won more than one statistical category against the opposition.

Itsmyshow Award: (Spammiest Poster: )

(written by Mooch )

shame, shame, shame - its my show award.gif

The award for the spammiest posted is named for Roys legend and leagueā€™s favourite chud shake maker, Itsmyshow .

Last season to nobodyā€™s surprise, this award was taken out by serial coup-er and KFC platinum card holder Supersuns , despite a tail off in activity late in the season.

This season shaped up to follow the same patterns, with Supersuns laying down the challenge in Round 1 with an impressive 230 posts. While this number for an individual round was only beaten twice more for the year - by our winner I might add - it wasnā€™t enough for SS to take out the award this time out.

The spammiest poster award is always a bit controversial at the BJO. The club ethos is to encourage participation but that posting numbers are not the be all and end all of contribution. And our winner in season 32 has some very strong views on that.

Which is why we can say that every single one of our heroes 2,395 posts in season 32 was quality; each one a stitch in a rich tapestry of stories, historian obsession with Eastern European sport, and mostly weirdness.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the winner of the Itsmyshow spammiest poster award for season 32. Mobbs .

Congratulations Mobbs !!!!

Round 7: Vs Royals (away): Roys Lost: 101 - 117

The game opened at a frantic pace, with Barrels slotting three early goals and Mooch one. The Royals matched this and then kicked more (unsporting bastards !!). But with Barrels on track for a 12 goal haul, things were looking ok for the Roys.

Roys veterans (Narrator ā€“ well, that narrows it down) Mooch and fitzroybowiedog narrowed the margin at the start of the second term. Before further good work from Barrels and Mooch ā€“ put the Roys briefly in the lead, but the Royals kicked away again.

In a sign of complete desperation, TedDougChris was brought on in defence ā€“ the phrase ā€œWell it canā€™t get any ****ing worseā€ was repeatedly heard from the coaching box before this crazy move. Mooch and royboy2 slotted majors, but the Royals had nearly reached the 100 point mark mid-way through the third. The Roys narrowed the margin again, but the Royals struck back in red time ā€“ holding a slight advantage of 17 points.

The game petered out in the last, with neither side able to make an impression, the spectators got bored and the umpires eventually took the ball and went homeā€¦.

Best: Wosh was outstanding the in ruck, Supersuns tackled anything that moved, or didnā€™t move, or the umpire ā€“ until he was given a free kick. 7 Frees For from 8 tackles from Supersuns is a fair effort. Mooch popped through a lazy 5 goals, Dingster, Chezzalenko Reborn provided good support, as did fitzroybowiedog and Barrels .

Leading Goal Kicker:

The Roys have had some truly great Full Forwards over the years, so letā€™s discuss the next potential gun spearhead at the BJO.

Given the number of times this man has won it, I decided weā€™d use something a bit abstract to present the award to him this yearā€¦ This was from a random paragraph generator onlineā€¦

He was a boy named Perkins in a New England town, and his father owned the garage and his mother was the nurse at the grade school, and that summer it was hot and dry. It was a time before computers and cell phones and the T.V.s were black and white. Elvis sang songs on the radio. His mother had a sewing circle that came to his house every midday except when the father was home, and he no more wanted to spend time with a bunch of old ladies than he would at church. So he went outside and explored. He walked the lanes and streets of the village and stayed away from where his father would be. He walked into the woods, and would look up at the trees and marvel how tall they were. Or he would go to the river and watch the water. He saw other boys on a raft and thought he would like to try that someday. He stood in an open field and saw the mountain in the distance, and he had heard men talking about climbing the mountain and he thought he would like to do that sometimeā€¦

I hope that has real meaning for you all....

On that note, congratulations Mooch ā€¦ā€¦ In all seriousness, Mooch is now 5th on the all time leaderboard and still contributing big bags of goals on a regular basis, so will continue to rise up the charts hereā€¦.

Round 8: Vs Dragons (home) : Roys Lost 75 - 82

For the first time since Rd 1, we failed to kick 100 points ā€“ so an oddity in terms of performance this week. It was a cold wet night in Stoke however, which may explain itā€¦. (you may not get this joke).

The game started badly and got worse early on, leading to this pearler from Dingster

ā€œAre we meant to be on the field?ā€.

Luckily, the damage wasnā€™t too bad ā€“ due to appalling kicking from the Dragons. Beandip was our hero early in the second, preventing the entire side having to do laps of the BJO with their pants around their anklesā€¦.. (Pub Qooty rules apply). Sadly this set off a rash of accurate goal kicking from both sides, before Mooch and Supersuns adding majors for the Roys. Accurate from our side, inaccurate from the Dragons ā€“ but would it prove costly ??

Mobbs summed up our fortunes so farā€¦.

ā€œWe improved as soon as I stopped touching the ball.ā€

Wosh and Dingster kept the margin close in the third term, with majors to keep our perfect goal scoring record intact (Narrator ā€“ now youā€™ve done it) before fitzroybowiedog blotted the copybook from point blank rangeā€¦ (Narrator ā€“ see, seeā€¦). The Roys down by 19 at the last change.

Wosh and Barrels cut the margin, but now the Roys were kicking behinds as well. When youā€™re not getting much of the ball, you need to take your opportunities. The Dragons then kicked away again, before Mooch and Barrels trimmed the margin back. Dingster was sizing up his options to reduce the margin to one point when the final siren sounded.

Best: Wosh again, a tremendous season from her to date, Dingster, Zevon , fitzroybowiedog all providing good support. Mooch with 5 goals, Barrels with 2 chipped in up forward.
