This club will be a case study in years to come. Of how not to run one, obviously.

Surely some of the key people involved will look back in years to come as they survey their trashed legacies, knowing they could have done something but didn't have the guts. Oh well, not my legacy.

They don't care. They think making the finals often enough and occasionally making it as far as a prelim is a great level of achievement for a little old battler club like Port. They see winning a premiership as akin to Australia winning the FIFA World Cup - a dream with no basis in reality. As Australia celebrates World Cup qualification/progression beyond the group stage as tremendous achievements in their own right, Port celebrate finals qualification/progression beyond week one of finals as tremendous achievements in their own right. There is absolutely no internal belief that they can win a premiership and once that is the mindset you have absolutely no chance whatsoever no matter what players you put out on the field.

I want him gone at the seasons end, while we have a team capable of have a crack at the GF. If he's here next year we will play okay because (Hinkley Contract Year) and another possible extension from the Kock.

And funny Arnold and Hinkley have a fair bit in common. Both egotists and shit coaches who rarely play with the best available talent at their disposal. Both take care of business beating minnows but at the first sign of a real contest are defeated.
