He’s on the cusp of declaring the club debt-free.

As clueless as his football acumen is, any concerted ‘Sack Koch’ campaign would be met with even more ‘you delusional ingrates!’ incredulity than the anti-Hinkley movement.

No way.

For some reason Koch has ALWAYS, ALWAYS rubbed the unwashed masses the wrong way, almost opposite to Hinkley's underserved 'love to have a beer* with him' aura among the same crowd. I remember the early years when he was doing a good job, growing the club, launching sponsor announcements in Vic, critisicing the VFL, etc, and facebook would still be full of comments from the school of hard knocks telling him to eff off.

I know he's a premiership coach but Adam Simpson has lost 54 of his last 62 games and is somehow still there. That must be some kind of record in its own right.
Yeah that's a strange situation, they don't seem to want him sacked as much as we do Hinkley. May be they think 5 years of tanking to get them some good draft picks to keep them up for the next ten.

I went back to 2014 to our squad then and the day we played the Crows in the second round. How good was the squad and how brilliant was the play that day, so inspiring. Fast play on style of game and plenty of aggressive contest at the ball style and the will to win. How much belief I had that day that we were building to a new era. Now it seems so pointless, so sad.
Current team does not have the work rate or the desire of the 2014 side. Nowhere near it. We had some great onfield leadership then with Carr & Hardwick real hard nuts who loved to niggle. We have nothing like that now.

Lol. Their Adam Simpson Megathread is up to post 1251. This post is 98,830 on ours. The've got a long way to go to be as good at Hating on a coach as Port Adelaide.

Yeah, the Hart incident and charging onto Subiaco to get Boak to wrangle his players to keep celebrations to a minimum in 2014 was great.

Showed a coach who was dedicated, hungry and obsessed with winning the ultimate prize regardless of situational positives.

Now we have a lobotomised oaf who repeatedly smirks, smiles and laughs amidst devastating losses, and behaves like a bogan who won a free lapdance after unexpected minor round wins his team actually shows up for.

We'll never see it, but just imagine Ken's celebration after winning a flag.

Josh Jenkins already came out last year and said that we never accepted Hinkley “because he’s Victorian”.

1) absolute bullsh¡t. Ken had a near-100% approval rating as late as the 2015 preseason before he got complacent, then decided footy wasn’t as important to him, but continued collecting a big cheque to turn up and serve up truckloads of poo.

2) absolute bullsh¡t. Port Adelaide has a cavalcade of favourite sons from far and wide stretching back a century. the ‘Kick-a-Vic’ garbage had never been an Albertonian trait.
Yes, that's absolute rubbish. Honestly these idiots know nothing about Port supporters. We don't care where coaches come from as long as they deliver. Simple. Jenkins is an absolute fool.

Hinkley really does bottle his own farts and smells them.

For the first 3 quarters of last Thursday Night's game, I honestly thought Carlton were playing pretty ordinary and were lucky to be ahead courtesy of some favourable umpiring, but perhaps most alarmingly a somewhat erectile dysfunctional foward line (something I suspect a condition probably suffers from)

It took herculean efforts from Cripps, Charlie and Walsh to blow the game apart in the final quarter for us, but even without Rozee, a decent coach with a disciplined and concise game plan and ability to function a decent foward would have had Port up by at least 2 or 3 goals at 3 quarter time.

I was actually rather pissed off myself by how Carlton were playing at 3 quarter time, but I find it absolutely incomprehensible Ken thought Port were playing very well up until then

Finally in the last 5 years, 3 NBA championship winning coaches (in a very tough 30 team league with parity), Nick Nurse, Frank Vogel and Mike Budenholzer were fired from their teams after a disappointing follow up season or two later, yet Ken Hinkley has somehow (like a cockroach) managed to break an 130 plus VFL/AFL record of 260 games (likely to make it 300) and counting without even making a bloody grand final.

And i see many neural supporters on this forum say you guys (life long dyed in the world and passionate Port Adelaide people) are way too hard/ungrateful to Kern.

That's just bullshit.

Johnny Elliott was a very flawed club president (esp with paper bags and disgraceful off field scandals) but generally speaking he would have *ed a coach like Kern off after 3 seasons (max) if we had one in the Hinkley timeline with the personal he had his disposal at Carlton.

Teflon Kochie just doesn't have that ruthless ambitious streak in him as chairman to do what is right for your football club.

He needs to go at the same time as Kern.

He has a mediocre/losers Mentality like Kern. Any good will he Gained from getting your club in a sound financial state after his first few years long gone.

If nothing else, philreich (one of my very favourite people on this forum) deserves to enjoy watching and be proud of his footy team again
It's nice to see some opposition club supporters understand how we are feeling. It's virtually destroyed my love of football.

I
Channel 7 are the most vanilla host broadcaster imaginable.

Rarely have a strong opinion about anything.

So for them to willingly pull the piss out of our coach on national television, then back over it again with a written piece drawing more attention to it...jesus that is so grim.

It appears at this stage there are very few people left who don't get the joke.
It's beautiful not grim. It's about time the fraud was called out for the idiot he is.

I know everything gets rewritten under the prevailing and justified ‘sack Ken’ theme of the board, but let’s not pretend people weren’t absolutely gargling his balls around the time of the Hart incident.
Wow, people's opinions of Hinkley have changed after 12 years of evidence. Who'da thunk it.

I was bullish on Hinkley in 2013 and 2014 but have been saying since 2016 that he is not the coach to take us to our next flag. I haven't seen anything since that has changed that opinion.

there is a good nine or ten full years between then and now, that's not really a gotcha

I will give credit where credit is due and Koch has done a good job with the finances of the club and being able to secure sponsorship opportunities. He needed someone he respects to have said to him 5 years ago that his legacy is going to be the lack of success that Hinkley embodies.

I think the problem is finding somebody that he respects.
This whole sponsorship narrative pisses me off
All clubs have multiple tier one sponsors
Businesses want to be sponsors
It’s just another “we saved the club” bullshit

For such a moneybags club, the Eagles either seem overly spooked by the softcap, or are content to let Simmo ride out the nadir before handing over with the worst behind them a la Roos at Melbourne.

"It is a coup signing for the club, with Hinkley re-establishing his partnership with Hart from their time spent at the Gold Coast where Hinkley worked as a senior assistant to Guy McKenna prior to becoming Port Adelaide’s senior coach"

Ok. Even knowing this now, it still doesn't seem like Hinkley brought over 'his own man'.

Its certainly a gotcha though for anybody who tries to claim that Port, in particular supporters never gave Ken a fair go.

Most of us were fanatical about how good he was in 2013-2014, and extremely patient with him from 2015-2017.

Not intended to be a gotcha at all, just backing up Janey and el scorcho’s points below with some evidence from the time

My recollection is that most on here were fine about it, they saw it as a sign that Ken was completely focused on the game and what was happening on the field. But now that everyone hates Ken that doesn't suit the agenda.

Yeah I feel the same. At the time he was a super passionate and intense coach and that translated well to the performances.

Now he's a blobfish.

Consumers thought the iPhone 6 was shit hot in 2014.

If Apple still hadn’t evolved past it by 2024, I’m guessing people would have changed their opinion on the product.
