I strongly doubt kern will get a senior gig anywhere again, even regular cellar dwellers like the blue baggers and GC would have noticed by now that he lacks something when the whips are really cracking, and there should be enough comments from people who attended last night's debacle re the lack of apparent preparation for a knock out final against a desperate opponent to get the message across, and regardless of how poorly numerous players performed last night the buck on that one has to stop with the coach.

The problem for us is we are almost certainly stuck with him for the majority of his current contract unless 1 of two things happens, either koch grows a pair (highly unlikely), or there is a get out clause somewhere in the fine print.

We are also almost certainly stuck with Voss for the term of his contract as well, as he is another who I suspect most clubs have put a line through, and our best chance of unloading him is if he can land another tv gig.

How is it the coaches fault when you have far less talent?

Bont better than Wines
Macrae better than Boak
Libba better than Gray
B Smith better than Butters
Naughton better than Dixon
Treloar better than Amon
Dunkley better than Drew
Dale better than Houston
Daniel better than DBJ or Burton or whoever else
Hunter better than Duursma
English is better than Ladhams

The only area you have one better in absolute top end talent would be Aliir is a better interceptor than anything they have. Add to that Lycett is better than Martin now too, but wasn't so clear last night. You may have a more even spread, but their top end is far superior.
They had an entire month of travelling and should of been fatigued and hurt while we had a weeks rest. We got obliterated and you can’t blame that on having slightly lesser talent. When will neutrals actually start giving Ken criticism? He’s been here 9 years and has achieved nothing. At least Buckley got you guys to a grand final.

i don't want to spread negativity on your board after such a disappointing loss but Hinkley has to go on fraud watch, a legitimate case could be made he isn't even top 10 coaches in the game. His coaching style is similar to Worsfold just without the learnings where he obliterates teams lower on the table but inevitably gets found out to well organised sides or against competent coaches. There's just too much bomb it inside 50 to Dixon's head and inshallah, Port need should definitely get in the ear of Clarkson especially when he was your assistant coach I think b4 he joined Hawthorn. I don't know if the Port Adelaide board would necessarily get rid of Hinkley, he seems to be on paper doing a great job with a young squad and needs time, but will always fall short.

Just watched the presser, never seen ken like this before for the first time in 9 years he is hurting like we have been. I don't hate ken but think he just needs to give someone else a go at coaching this group. Our window is not closed. In the last 14 weeks before last night we were 12 - 2 in games better than anyone including melbourne. We were 9 out of 9 in Melb this year even the great west coast and Brisbane sides of the past didn't achieve that. That's what makes last night hard to digest. No matter who is coach in 2022 this playing group must take us to a flag next year nothing less will be acceptable.

I was only 10 in 2003 so I don't know too much about it, but for those that have a better understanding or memory of that time, was there about the same discontent with Choco at the end of 03 after another premature finals exit as there is with Hinkley now? Or did he have a bit more respect as he was still relatively new to the role? ...

If anyone wants to know how Ken handles heat watch the press conference from last night. He was a bumbling, stuttering mess with no idea what just happened. This is the guy preparing our players for the finals furnace.

He was asked 3 times what the reason was for the blowout. He refused to answer and said we’ll look at it in the review. The same “we know the what but not the why” Bs he’s peen peddling for years.

Listen to the whole interview, he just makes generic, broad-based statements that could apply to any loss.

He is a fraud and I’m not returning to the football until he’s gone.

We have this weird culture in the AFL that your senior coach is almost always hired with the understanding that the goal is eventually a premiership. There have been some rare exceptions — Paul Roos parachuting into Melbourne at one of their many lowest ebbs with a plan to hand over to Goodwin in 2 years or whenever it was, etc.

When you’re coming from a low base, like Ken (and Hardwick) did, and there’s visible improvement towards that goal, be it finals appearances or even early September wins, you’re almost always afforded a stack of credits in the bank that see you through the odd failure, blip or backslide.

What gets weird is, beyond this point, unless you seriously stink it up after getting close — see Chris Connolly at Freo, or Danny Frawley at Richmond — you’re at risk of being trapped with a coach who is good enough to deliver you contention, but not good enough to deliver a flag.

That’s where we are. Because unlike every other professional sport in the world, we just don’t sack coaches for making finals and challenging for flags — as Hinkley’s now very much expected to do with his list, resources and experience — but repeatedly failing to get there, and in increasingly embarrassing ways.

So Alistair Clarkson’s on the market, and we’re stuck with a coach who is 0-3 in Prelims, and whose team repeatedly fails in clearly demonstrable ways.

It’d be like deciding to stick with Russell Ebert (bless him) at the end of 1987, with Jack sitting there. And that’s what we’ll do.

Yes, many wanted Choco sacked including our main sponsor Alan Scott. That's what led to Choco infamously saying "Alan Scott, you were wrong" as Choco collected the trophy

I think you guys should consider that maybe THE PLAYERS are not good enough?
Just a thought don't crucify me.

It's a multifactorial problem. Given the entirety of the list has basically been turned over during his tenure, the common denominator of the time is... You guessed it... Ken.

Playing list turned over.
Assistant coaches churned.
Same issues.

Voss is out of contract. CD confirmed this the other day.

I get the feeling that Ken is not a confident coach. He doubts himself or the team and gets nervous, and he doesn't even try to hide it. And this filters down to the players.
Just look at the game last night. Bulldogs were up by 40-50, cruising comfortably and Beveridge was still completely engaged and focused, calling shots and staying involved.
Ken just went in to his safety shell, makes himself small and sits there with his head in his hands, he has decided that we've lost the game and there's nothing he can do.
He absolutely gave up on the players and he didn't fight it out to the end.
It's no surprise the players did the exact same thing.

It's well and truly time for him to step away.
