It's a ninth top-twenty placing for one of the most-liked members of Sweet, philreich, who finishes this count in 6th place.
Now, most of us will have heard Phil paint a picture of himself in real life- a plodding, lacklustre, South Australian public servant. Yet, here in the Sweet FA, Phil is quite the opposite (calm down, I'm not calling you Victorian!) He's ambitious, award collecting and one of the most reliable and hardworking contributors to this corner of the internet. Match OPs, Swamprats match thread contributions, free-range match and team thread contributions, cricket discussions, fundraisers.. it's all there regularly in Mr Reich's wheelhouse.
And that doesn't even mention the contribution he's best known for- his Sunday match commentary posting. philreich has brought much character to what, on paper, is a copy 'n paste job. Who amongst us hasn't had to endure our team in a close battle with Phil posting at the speed of a snail on a glacier? Or indeed, not posting at all and instead giving unusual stat updates or threatening to watch recorded TV programmes/walk an aquatic animal, all in the customary maroon text.
Despite this, the Sweet community can't help but like Phil. There's no bulldust, he loves his family, the Swamprats and a corny joke. You'd have to have been living under a Dwayne Johnson not to notice Phil this season and after many seasons of strong output, he shows no signs of slowing down. Long may this continue.
just want to let you know that Clark is sending me abusive messages telling me that I'm not about to win this.
Disgusting behaviour from whatever the guys role is.
Top tier timing
It's with great pleasure that in 5th place is a member of the much-underrated season 33 rookie crop- AnUltimateRessie.
Ressie has stepped up into a number of roles in the last two seasons- captain, Committee (or Cabal..?) member, media performer, match thread poster, prominent match thread poster and Rate the Opposition Tsar. In each, great passion and enthusiasm has been brought leading to wider league attention.
On the media front, Ressie has probably been 2024's most prolific thread starter. There has been no shortage of Wonders' propaganda pieces- be they the good, the geographical or the Clarkey. Then there is the Rate the Opposition thread which was seen to completion due to Ressie's strong record keeping and fastidious chasing of votes (not to mention orchestrating an intelligent conclusion that saw Mobbs mow down two plucky season 33'ers to take the crown).
However, the greatest contribution Ressie made this season was steading the ship at the West Coast Wonders after a wobbly season or two. Recruiting rookies, removing quotas and reintroducing levity, the Wonders ended the season as a posting success story and a team with a greatly enhanced reputation. Congratulations on your season and high finish in the beez, Ressie.
You've won more than our Shield team, mate. It's a ninth top-twenty placing for one of the most-liked members of Sweet, philreich, who finishes this count in 6th place.
