Vote posting botch in the first round, that's gotta be a record.
There will be plenty of these... I'm running off a 20,000 word document zoomed out to 3 pages across the screen. I have no shame!

Season 37 Round 1

Ophidian Old Boys 13.5 (83) defeat Las Vegas Bears 10.12 (72)

The Old Boys made all the right noises in the off season about hitting this season hard after last season’s …. Indiscretions earned them the spoon. Beaten grand finalists Bears had other ideas of their own, looking to go a step further in S37
The Bears drew first blood through Millky95 (who finished with 22 disposals, 5 tackles and 3.2 goals) but the Old Boys hit back through Mrs Turbo and Harvey Manfrenjensenden. The game was much of a non-event after this with neither team really taking a hold on the game. Fleabane took 27 disposals while Cap kicked 3.3 goals. The Old Boys shared the goals around with 5 multiple goal kickers (Wickzki with 3, myblueroan, Mrs Turbo, Harvey Manfrenjensenden, and King Tenz with a couple each).
The most intense battle of the day was between rucks Tigerturbulance (12 hitouts, 19 disposals) and Test Tickle (9 hitouts, 24 disposals), with the former marginally winning the battle.
The Bears still could have won it in the last quarter except that with Jezmiester40 , Cap, and Millky95 sharing 8 behinds between them, it wasn’t to be.

Baghdad Bombers 17.9 (111) defeated by Dragons FFC 25.16 (166)

Both teams were coming off a loss last week - Bombers by 20 to the Warriors and the Dragons by 10-goals at home to the Old Boys. The table doesn’t really mean much at this point of the season - Dragons are one of 11 teams on 4 points so are either joint 2nd or joint 11th, depending on how you look at it. Bombers are only avoiding being dead last because the Gumbies have a worse percentage.

Bombers got off to a flying start and led by 4 goals at the break, thanks largely to gab213 (4 goals) and iDon (3.1 goals) getting on the scoreboard early. But after that point, it was all one-way traffic with the Dragons piling on 22 goals from that point. SaintsSeptember (29 disposals and a goal) battled hard in the middle but Purple Jesus (31 disposals, 3.1 goals) and Greenery (21 disposals and a goal) had his measure. Bonz was phenomenal (actually PhenomenalV1 was phenomenal with 30 touches and a goal) with 8.4 goals, finally hitting double figures for the season.
Dragons won by 9 goals and truth be told, it should have been by 19 but for some yips in front of the sticks.

Las Vegas Bears 22.15 (147) defeat Gold City Royals 15.7 (97)

Both teams came into this game off the back of their first wins of the season - Bears with a 3 goal win over struggling Gumbies and the Royals with an impressive 10 goal win over the Hawks Phoenix Hawks.
For 3 quarters it was pretty much a kick for kick game and there was only 8 points in it at 3QT. In a fascinating battle in the middle, @sarahsmiles (27 touches) worked hard against Matera92 (24 touches) and Tommycash (23). GreyCrow dominated the ruck with 16 hitouts, 22 disposals and a couple of cracking goals, while Brenton Davy kicked 4 for the visitors. But goalswise (it’s a word), they were completely outclassed by the Bears forward line - Cap with 6.4 played the power forward to perfection, ably supported by the Terrible Trio of Jezmiester40, Millky95, and MWPP with a terrible trio of goals each. The Bears blowing the visitors away with a 7 goal to 1 quarter turned this from a comfortable win into a rout.

Mount Buller Demons 16.12 (108) defeated by West Coast Wonders 26.17 (173)

Both teams came into this round with four points - Wonders off the back of a 98 point thrashing of the Roys and Demons from a close encounter and single goal win over the Rats.
This game was an absolute belter. One for the ages. There were some incredible individual performances on both sides. Where to even start? What? The beginning? OK.
In the beginning, the scores were level. Then the Wonders kicked 11 first quarter goals and the game was effectively over. Wonders were never behind - they were up by 80 points just before half time - and went on to win by over 10 goals. Not that this really tells the full story of the game. The star was undoubtedly sausageroll who kicked 12.1 goals in a losing side. In the ruck, Hate (20 hitouts, 25 disposals) and dogs105 (21 hitouts, 31 disposals and 1.1 goals) fought a fascinating battle, while DERO (31 disposals, 10 tackles, 1.4 goals) was the other standout for the Demons. For the Wonders, it was like an internal competition over who could get the most touches. Grand Uncle Horace with 34 led Pamcake1 (33), while dino_67 got 27 plus an amazing 15 marks (and a goal) and Cubs2Lions with 25 plus 11 tackles and 5.0 goals in an all-round masterclass. It is incredible that DenieD's 6.1 goals get mentioned last in this report but it was that kind of game.

Coney Island Warriors 9.16 (70) defeated by Sin City Swamprats 13.13 (91)

Another match up of teams with a nice and symmetrical 1-1 record. The Rats lost narrowly to Mt Buller last week while the Warriors picked up a 20 point win over the Bombers.
The tale of this game is one of inaccuracy. In total we saw 22.29 kicked, with the Swampies doing all the hard work in Q1 but kicking 2.10 - which was enough to give them the lead as the Warriors had kicked a single score with toxic kicking his only goal of the game (9 hitouts, 18 disposals, 1.1 goal). The other ruck damicky fared slightly better with 11 hitouts and 27 disposals but still missed more than he kicked - 2.3. The worst offender was Stokey though. He was fed many a time by pantskyle and Piggy Smalls (23 and 20 touches respectively) but wasted most of them, finishing with 2.6 goals. BloodySwan was everywhere for the Rats. 32 touches, 8 tackles and to stick with the theme he missed twice as many shots as he scored - 1.2 goals. GotTheGoodes took 22 touches and helped himself to 2 goals straight, while My Cotchin Rules kicked 4.1.

Gumbies FFC 19.7 (121) defeat Fighting Furies 14.10 (94)

Two teams with a bye each to their name came head to head at rfctigeramy’s Hippodrome. Furies were sitting pretty in second by virtue of a big win in round 1, while Gumbies are propping up the league after losing at home to the Bears last week.
This game was a good old fashioned ding dong, with not more than a couple of goals in it until late on. The ruck battle was won by cats_09 with 17 hitouts, 20 disposals and a goal on the other side NaturalDisaster can be very proud of his symmetrical stats with 13 hitouts, 13 disposals and 3.1 goals. beez (35 touches) and GWS Goose (23) got the better of Frederico_WA (23 touches and a goal) and crazywildhorse (22 touches and a pair of behinds). ShaunDuggan kicked 3.1 to give the Furies a shout as the game came to a close but recent Sweet Rugby recruit Aucklander kicked 4 straight goals in the last 7 minutes to settle this one.

East Side Hawks 22.13 (145) defeat Roys FFC 22.5 (137)

Another clash with another two teams with a 1-1 record - weird start to the season this one - saw two teams coming off the back of heavy defeats last week trying to get their seasons kickstarted.
This points were always in play with 28 lead changes - the last of which broke Roy hearts when Strigoi kicked her third goal (15 hitouts, 33 disposals, 3.1 goals) with less than a minute left to win the game for the Hawks Phoenix Hawks. Hers had been a fierce battle with Roy counterpart DERRINALPHIL (21 hitouts, 22 disposals). 3KZ is Football took 24 touches but tackling machines Rankine2Rachele and MP_ tackled the bejesus out of anyone who went near the ball - 8 and 10 tackles respectively. boncer34 kicked accurately and ended with 4.0 goals which Tarkyn_24 did not but still snagged 4.5. For the Roys, JackNah_8 in an unfamiliar forward role kicked 4 straight and Reardo, MrsEddieBetts, _Mike_, and royboy2 all got 3 each. Which was just not enough to avoid the late heartbreak.

FRED MEDAL

FRED MEDAL

The winner of the Season 37 Fred Medal, in no surprise at all, is Brenton Davy. 77 goals this season and he didn’t stop there, dominating up forward in the Royals finals campaign.

Brenton Davy wins his first Fred Medal and despite not even playing 100 games yet, adds to a strong career brewing for the individual. It was just his second season as a dominate FF, previously in Season 33 with his first club, the West Coast Wonders where he kicked an impressive 62 goals and just 24 behinds.

Season 37 was the return of the goalkicking powerhouse and it’s safe to say there’ll be more goals to come.

Well done BD

Season 37 Round 4

Mount Buller Demons 19.11 (125) def Baghdad Bombers 18.7 (115)

Demons and Bombers occupied the last two spots on the ladder after both suffering heavy losses at home last week (to the Wonders and Dragons respectively) and only having one win between them.

The fans turned up in their ….. tens for this one. Probably expecting not much entertainment. Those that paid the ticket price (and those who jumped the fence) were actually in for something of a treat. After an even start, the Bombers kicked on and kicked 9 in the first quarter to take a 5-goal lead into the break. While the Demons clawed a couple back in the second, the Bombers were always in control of this game. Right up until the point they weren’t. With 10 minutes left, Bluelegs snagged one from the pocket to put the boys from Mt Buller in front, and they piled on 3 more before the end just to make sure.

Despite MayTheNorthBeWithU (14 hitouts, 25 disposals, 3.1 goals) giving the Bombers first use more often than not but it was moginie who lead the charge for Mt Buller with 28 touchers, 6 tackles and a goal. tomjoad and Gralin sparred in the midfield all day (26 and 27 disposals respectively), and Bovo flung himself into tackles like a mad man, sticking 6 and helping himself to 6 tackles. gab213 kicked 3.1 but thanks to PMBangers (5.1 goals) and sausageroll (5.5 goals), the Demons made sure the Bombers were still pointless.

Roys 11.12 (87) def by Sin City Swamprats 22.6 (138)

The Rats came into the round with a 2-1 record (including a narrow win over Coney Island last week) while the Roys were in opposite-land with 1-2, including losing to the Hawks in a 40-odd goal shootout last week. The bookies reckon they had this one nailed, with ClarkBet paying $19 on a Roys win.

The game started off as a contest. The Rats shaded the first quarter largely due to their accuracy and the Roys inaccuracy. But while the Swampies kicked 14 goals in the next two quarters - thanks largely to an exquisite forward performance from okeydoke7 (9.1 goals), while the Roys kicked 2. The game was well and truly over already.

royboy2 and Mike both battled hard, both picking up 20 disposals and 6 tackles, while Mooch kicked 4.2. DERRINALPHIL battled hard in the ruck contests, narrowly losing out 14-16 to damicky but the latter ran the former ragged around the ground, with 24 disposals and 2 goals. quadzilla4x4 helped himself to 16 disposals and 3 goals, while philreich was the master stopper - laying 9 tackles

Gumbies and Hawks have had a mixed bag up until now - Gumbies with 1 win from 2 games (plus a bye) and Hawks with 2 from 3. Sitting in mid table, both teams were exactly meeting expectations for the season.

Gumbies took the lead in the first minute and stayed in front for roughly a quarter. But this was before handball-happy Rankine2Rachele (28 disposals, 20 handballs) took charge of the midfield, spraying the ball left and right to Loonerty (26 disposals, 10 marks) and Callums_Guns (22 disposals, 1.1 goals). cats09 (13 hitouts, 25 disposals, 1.1 goals) pulled out all the stops trying to get his team over the line. NSWCROW (21 disposals) worked hard while Dory_77, bone2468, rye, and Aucklander kicked 2 goals each. But it was the 4 goals from Tarkyn_24 which ultimately settled the tie in the Hawks favour.

Bears and Furies came into this round with 1 loss each so far. Furies lost away at Gumblieland last week while the Bears looked ominous in their 50-point win over the Royals.

The Bears carried on from last week. They were never behind in this game and but for Toump Ass and Feraligatr kicking a couple of goals each, the Furies could have been in for an even worse day, if that’s possible. Meanwhile Cap - with all the talent of okeydoke7 but with none of the self-promotion - kicked more than the Furies. The Furies just had no bite. They had loads of possession - crazywildhorse with 29, Frothies Mcveigh with 29, James Colorado with 20 - but all uncontested in the back hald. Frothies and James Colerado even had 10 marks each for what it’s worth. The real damage was done by Matera92 with 35 punishing touches, ably supported by Millky95 with 32 and Tandy with 27. Wonders took control early with a couple of goals each to DenieD (6.1 goals overall) and Cubs2Lions (15 touches, 5 tackles and a couple of goals). The game was quick and handball heavy, with Footypie32 getting 28 touches and MrPremiership 20 to go with a very impressive 5.2 goal haul. AnUltimateRessie snagged a couple of goals from his 22 touches in an accomplished display. The two rucks put on an incredible display both at the bounces and around the ground. GreyCrow got plenty of first ball for his team - 14 hitouts, 10 touches, 2 goals - but was overshadowed by his opponent dogs105 with 20 hitouts, 30 disposals and a goal. Season 37 Round 5
Gumbies FFC v Ophidian Old Boys at The House of Gumby

The high flying Ophidians met the reigning premiers who were struggling to get their premiership defense out of the gate. The OOB, top of the ladder arrived at The House Of Gumby keen to further stamp their authority over this season and did just that, exploding out of the gates for a 7.5.47 to 1.1.7 lead at ¼ time. Despite a 6 goal final quarter, the game had been all but won by that point as the OOB cruised home, remaining undefeated. Harvey Manfrenjensenden kicked a lazy 9.3 (105DT), whilst Tigerturbulance and DemurePrincess both had over 20 touches to score 86DT and 81DT respectively. On the other side, nobbyiscool had a huge 100DT effort but sadly couldn’t carry the Gumbies over the line.

Well for a start, freo84 had a whopping -3DT points, but more to the point, perhaps the Dragons partied too hard during the week because they were never in this. The 25pt margin at ¼ time was as close as it got as the Roys crushed this game by 89pts. Pure Grunt (107DT), _Mike_ (106DT) and SpecialBruce (94DT) were all phenomenal and kept the dragons at bay. Pie 4 Life (96DT), Greenery (92DT) and big_icky (84DT) were valiant but futile in their efforts to keep their side in this one.

Coney Island Warriors v Mount Buller Demons at Van Cortlandt Park

In this matchup, the Demons travelled to Van Cortlandt, hoping to continue their good form and win this away matchup, setting up the middle part of their season. The defense needed improvement though, as up to this point they had comfortably conceded the most points in the SFA. However, in what was a scintillating first half of high pressure football, these two teams battled hard for the first half, with only one point separating them. There was still less than 2 kicks in it at the penultimate change and despite a gutsy effort from The Filth Wizard (5 goals from 5 kicks), Piggy Smalls (95DT) and Tonga Bob (92DT), the Demons got over the line by 11 points. moginie (95DT) and @Scythe84 (90DT) carried much of the workload for the Demons in this important win.

Sin City Swamprats v East Side Hawks at Underground Stadium

With 3 teams already winning away, the Hawks travelled to Sin City hoping to make it 4 from 5. Both in terms of away teams winning and their form (currently 3-1). Could they continue to go toe-to-toe with the OOB up the pointy end of the ladder? Well the new recruits were handling themselves well to start the season, and the Hawks were up at ¼ time by 8 pts. The Rats fought back to take a 10pt lead at the main change, and the Callums_Guns must have inspired the team something proper. A 14 to 4 goal second half saw them comfortably run this game out 52pt winners. Tadpole hit the scoreboard 7 times for 4.3 and 113DT, next best was MP_ (96DT) and Strigoi with (77DT). For the Rats, a chance gone begging as GotTheGoodes (69DT) was the clubhouse leader on the day.

West Coast Wonders v Fighting Furies at The Colosseum

Lastly for Round 5 we head to the Colosseum, where the Wonders are scoring points for fun, having amassed 542 points in their 4 games to date. Could the Furies match this firepower? Well despite being the away team, seeing 4 teams win away (and the Bears almost make it a clean sweep), the Furies came out the blocks strong, opening up a 4 goal cushion at the main break. Had they found a secret to undoing the Wonders success? 36points at half time was (probably) a season low given their high-flying status. It seems the dizzying heights of winning and playing good Qooty was perhaps too much for the Furies, as the Wonders put on 6 goals to 1, including two in the last two minutes, to snatch this win away from the Furies. A bit of a sliding doors game, really. Pamcake1 (119DT), dogs105 (106DT) and HARPSichord (97DT) were all brilliant in the latter stages while crazywildhorse (104DT), Edmund hunt (103DT) and Frothies Mcveigh (90DT) all stood up and did not lower their colours on the losing side.

Gold City Royals v The Bye

The Royals did not start well to the season and were hoping to enjoy a good percentage boost against the Bye. Rumor has it they even doubled their training efforts this week to ensure a good performance was put it. Sadly, The Bye beat them by 12 points, with @ByeByeBye (106DT), @GoodbyeMylover (87DT) and HelloGoodbye (76DT) all having a day out against the Gold City squad.
