Season 37 Round 8

Gold City Royals 24.11 (155) defeat Gumbies FFC 20.6 (126)

Despite propping up the ladder, the Royals were coming off the back of a thrilling loss to ladder-leaders Old Boys in a shootout last week, while the Gumbies put some distance between themselves and the bottom four by dispatching of the Bombers.

Cracking game this one. Gumbies came out with confidence but the Royals were looking to build on a decent performance last week. Royals went in front in the first minute thanks to CakeEater and stayed there most of the day, though the Gumbies kept their lead down to 21 points until late in the game.

Cadsky would have caught the eye of QASADA with a phenomenal 36 disposal, 12 tackle, and 1 goal game. He was unplayable. Gold City will be looking for more of this if they want any sniff of success in S37. It wasn’t completely a one-man show though. GreyCrow got 24 hitouts and took 27 possessions, while krakouers, Zevon, and Smartys Power got plenty of it too (29, 29, and 30 respectively), and Pedro kicked a lazy 7 with every touch turning to goal. Gumbies players certainly played their part in keeping the fans in their seats too. GWS Goose had 25 touches, 5 tackles and 4.1 goals, Chat Pile helped himself to 5 goals and ossie_21 had 25 touches and a couple of goals.

Ophidian Old Boys 20.9 (129) defeat Fighting Furies 12.12 (84)

The Old Boys kept their top spot after winning a thrilling - if unexpected - shootout with the struggling Royals. The Furies were also coming off a narrow win over the Warriors to give them a view of the top 8.

This game went entirely to form, unfortunately for the Furies. It took them most of the game to equal the Old Boys first quarter score. They were constantly playing chase and not playing it very well. It could have been different if they didn’t have the yips in front of goal. Shueygod had a solid game with 33 touches and 7 tackles but missed 3 regulation shots for goal. Edmund hunt did get a couple, along with 30 touches, while Frothies Mcveigh turned back the clock with a 32 disposal game. For the Old Boys, myblueroan and Mrs Turbo kicked 4.2 goals each and kenneyswarriors helped himself to 25 touches, while King Tenz had 20 and laid 6 tackles.

Las Vegas Bears 15.9 (99) defeated by Roys FFC 18.8 (116)

The Bears suffered a heavy loss to the Rats last week and would have been licking their wounds somewhat, while the Roys were hoping the bye wouldn’t curtail their momentum in the previous weeks.

Roys got out of the blocks early with goals from Mooch and TheGoatBaron (who ended up with 6.0 and 4.0 respectively) and they stayed there most of the afternoon. Mobbs was the star for the travelling team with 29 touches and 13 marks, intercepting everything coming his way. _Mike_ dominated the ruck with 15 hitouts and 21 disposals, while being unusually wasteful in front of goal, kicking 1.3. Art Vandelay_ and RonnieRaven looked the most dangerous for the Bears with 31 disposals each (Ronnieraven also helped himself to a goal). Shadow Man took 10 marks to go with his 16 touches, and MWPP kicked 3.1 in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt at keeping the points in Las Vegas.

Dragons FFC 17.12 (114) defeated by Sin City Swamprats 18.7 (115)

Dragons despatched Demons to keep top four alive, Rats joint top after 5g over Bears
The Dragons had easily dispatched the Demons last week to keep in touch with the top four. The Rats stayed joint top after an impressive 5 goal win over the bears.

As entertainment goes, this game was right up there. There were 10 lead changes in the game and the Rats would be happy that they made the last change late in the second, and kept a narrow lead for the rest of the game, in a display of controlled possession. The ruck contest was very even at the taps with Pie 4 Life (18 hitouts) and damicky (16) well matched, though the latter got around the ground for 24 touches and 3 goals. ant555 (39 disposals) and HirdsTheWord (37 disposals, 11 marks) led the way, while okeydoke7 did okey things and kicked 6.1. For the Dragons, pK75 and Purple Jesus shared 62 touches. Bonz was both brilliant and horribly wayward in the same game, kicking 7.5 goals. While you can’t sniff at 7 goals, he might just have been wondering ‘what if’ after losing the game by a single point.

Coney Island Warriors 17.5 (107) defeated by West Coast Wonders 22.20 (152)

West Coast 1g over Hawks, Warriors lost to fellow strugglers Furies
Coney Island had lost narrowly to fellow struggles Furies last week to keep them only a few percentage points from the spoon placing, while West Coast would have been relieved with a 1 goal win over the Hawks to keep the pressure on the top two.

Another shootout. There must have been something in the chemtrails this week. The game stayed pretty close on the scoreboard thanks largely to Wonders inaccuracy (looking at you ClarkeM) but in the last quarter and a bit they put on enough majors through Oisin_the_Goat (6.1) and DenieD (4.4 - come on man) to come away with a healthy win. Tonga Bob (14 hitouts, 30 disposals and a goal) and dogs105 (18 hitouts, 18 disposals) fought hard in the ruck and fed hungry midfields on both sides. AnUltimateRessie with 36 disposals and a couple of goals, supported by Cubs2Lions with 19 disposals plus 11 tackles and a couple of goals. For the Warriors, FootyGuru helped himself to 26 touches, Purple7x08_24 had 25 plus 11 marks, and The Filth Wizard kicked 6.1.

East Side Hawks 13.5 (83) defeated by Mount Buller Demons 20.15 (135)

Hawks narrow loss to West Coast, Demons embarrassed by Dragons
The Hawks had lost narrowly to West Coast last week and would have taken a little bit of confidence from that. The Demons were embarrassed by the Dragons and and would have been itching to get back on the park to put that right.

Mount Buller came out the blocks flying, clearly looking to square the ledger after last week. 14 scoring shots should have made the remaining three quarters redundant but 9 misses was enough to give the Hawks some hope of staying in the game. By mid way through the 3rd quarter though, the game was well and truly over. sausageroll kicked 8.1 and Yakker 3.2 for the visitors. Even though Strigoi just about edged manangatang in the ruck (16 hitouts to 12), Gralin (25 disposals and a goal) and moginie (18 touches, 7 tackles) got the better of Giant Strides and Loonerty with 27 and 22 respectively. Even a 6 goal haul from Tarkyn_24 wasn’t good enough to make any difference in a 52-point loss for his side.

SFACA MVP

This award is to recognise players who traditionally play in non-prominent positions and is purely based on statistical performances.

Similar to last season, the process for this award is an abomination and until it’s fixed, it’s resorting to Admin choice. And so it will be so…

The winner of the Season 37 SFACA MVP Award is JoshWoodenSpoon

Who? You might ask? Well let’s take a look…

JoshWoodenSpoon played 15/16 games at FB for the Bears this season. Despite coming 8th on the ladder and just sneaking into finals, they had a positive 101% percentage further signifying the importance of a solid defensive unit.

Let’s take a look at his stats:

Averaging 10.5 disposals, 3.5 marks per game, JWS is this season’s SFACA MVP.

Sure, other FB’s may have had better stats. Sure, their teams may have been higher placed finishers. Sure, this award is as much of a joke as okeydoke7 is. Too bad – congrats JWS.
JoshWoodenSpoon it is a true blessing the sim doesn't recognize your helicopter kicks. Blessed!!!

Season 37 Round 7

West Coast Wonders 19.9 (123) defeat East Side Hawks 19.3 (117)

A matchup between two top-five teams on the ladder promised so much and it sure delivered but not in the expected way. The Wonders took control in a shootout and opened up a 46 point lead late in the third quarter. The Wonders ground to a halt from there kicking just one further goal as the Hawks stormed home. DenieD kicked 6.3 for the winners with dogs105 and NinjaSwan playing eye-catching supporting roles. BOG though is very likely MP_ whose 26 disposals and 10 tackles kept the Hawks in it. Strigoi (113 DT) and TY24 (5 goals) may also attract vote attention.

Dragons FFC 20.12 (132) defeat Mount Buller Demons 15.12 (102)

The Dragons consolidated their spot in the eight after bursting out of the blocks, with four goals in the opening six minutes of their clash with the Dees. Pie 4 Life was tremendous in the ruck with 25 disposals, 3 goals and 14 hit outs with Greenery (22 disposals and 6 tackles) and Ligma (22 disposals and 5 tackles) taking full advantage of P4L's work. For the Demons, Scythe94 recorded 10 tackles and 97 DT so is sure to have impressed the sim while Yakker, moginie and manangatang all chances of sneaking into the votes.

Sin City Swamprats 23.11 (149) defeat Las Vegas Bears 18.6 (114)

Match of the round didn't live up to its name unfortunately as the Swamprats powered away from last season's runner up on the back of a powerful second quarter. A lot of players had stat-heavy performances with philreich, paraaaa and RPCB a chance of votes. For the Bears, Tandy and Test Tickle both were fantastic and are strong chances of polling, with Cap a smoky chance. One Swamprat though will be mighty peeved if they miss out on votes- okeydoke7 kicked seven goals in a fabulous full forward performance.

Fighting Furies 18.12 (120) defeat Coney Island Warriors 13.12 (90)

Both sides entered the match happy- the Furies on the bottom of the ladder after 4 consecutive losses, meanwhile the Warriors were knocking on the door of the eight. For three and a half quarters this was a see-sawing battle before a late surge saw the Furies win comfortably. Shueygod and crazywildhorse combined for 43 disposals and 18 tackles so are sure to have the voters attention, with NaturalDisaster and ShaunDuggan a chance of polling. pantskyle is a realistic chance of votes for the losing side with few other teammates putting up monster stats.

Baghdad Bombers 14.14 (98) defeated by Gumbies FFC 17.10 (112)

The rejuvenated Bombers hosted the reigning premiers in one of the matches of the season to date. It was the Gumbies who prevailed in the end of a match where the lead was predominantly a single-figure margin. norway blue (18 disposals and 9 tackles), MayTheNorthBeWithU (22 disposals and 15 hitouts) and gab213 (6 goals) are the leading prospects for the Bombers. For the Gumbies, NSWCROW (18 disposals and 7 tackles) and cats_09 (20 disposals, 11 hitouts and 1 goal) are a chance of votes. Eight goals from forward maestro rye should surely result in the three or two votes. Surely!

Ophidian Old Boys 23.18 (156) defeat Gold City Royals 20.15 (135)

The Old Boys firmed their grip on the top of the table by dispatching the Royals in a very high-scoring game which consigned the Royals to the foot of the ladder. The Old Boys were led by the not so old King Tenz (25 disposals, 8 tackles and 2 goals) and the somewhat older Harvey Manfrenjensenden with 6 goals. Iva Bigun and IrishBlue both topped 100 DT to be a chance of votes. Intriguingly, the Royals probably have more players who could poll a vote for this match with some huge individual performances. Midfielders Restricted Free Agent (SarahSmiles) 35 disposals, krakouers (33) and Zevon (32) kept Qhampion Data busy. There was a non-midfielder who also had a day out for Gold City- Brenton Davy kicked eight goals in a praiseworthy full-forward performance.
