Season 37 Round 6

Roys FFC 23.9 (147) defeat Gold City Royals 13.10 (88)

On paper, this eighth versus seventh clash seemed a beauty on paper. The Roys though had other ideas rushing to a 68 point half time lead and winning big on the back of SpecialBruce (22 disposals and 3 goals), Chezzalenko Reborn (24 disposals), MrsEddieBetts (106 DT) and Mobbs (27 disposals). For the vanquished, it's unlikely anyone will make their way into the votes but Cadsky and Restricted Free Agent (@SarahSmiles) are best placed to do so.

Fighting Furies 13.4 (82) defeated by Baghdad Bombers 17.10 (112)

The Bombers climbed off the foot of the ladder for the first time in a month, handing the baton to their opponents. After a thrilling first half, the Bombers whooshed away in the second half with star performances from Grav (102 DT), SaintsSeptember (29 disposals), @VeinGlorious (29 disposals) and gab213 (4.4). For the Furies, NaturalDisaster can't be blamed for the loss with 18 disposals and 6 tackles nearly mirroring teammates Shueygod (18 and 6 tackles) and crazywildhorse (18 and 5 tackles).

Ophidian Old Boys 14.7 (91) defeated by Sin City Swamprats 18.8 (116)
And so it finally happened, the Old Boys winning streak was broken by the Swamprats. The match was an absorbing affair with the Swamprats only shaking off the ladder leaders in the final eight minutes. The Swamprats were led by vice-captain BloodySwan (31 disposals, 4 tackles), veteran ant555 (33 disposals) and Roosters-supporter damicky (26 disposals and 23 hit outs). Top votes though are likely to go to thewizardmelon (19 disposals and 12 tackles) with DemurePrincess, Tigerturbulance and Elton Johns Wig a chance of joining Wiz with votes.

What a match this turned out to be! Until the 13th minute of the last quarter, the margin hadn't extended beyond two goals. For the winners, captain Greenery sophomore big_icky, a Deestroy medallist in Ligma and a Fred medallist in Bonz were their best. The Hawks best is one of the league's best ever- Tarkyn_24 with 8 goals. Tarks was well supported from teammates Rankine2Rachele and MP_.

The reigning premiers entered this match in strife at 1-3 while the Dees were sitting on a much prettier 3-2. The game did not play out to season form though with the Gumbies dismantling the Demons. Chat Pile (7 goals) and Barrybran (4 goals) were huge up forward as were GWS Goose (26 disposals, 8 tackles) and nobbyiscool (20 disposals, 8 tackles) through the middle. sausageroll (5 goals) and moginie (23 disposals, 9 tackles) were fabulous in the Dees' dark day.

In qooty, if you leave the door ajar, don't be surprised if your opponents burst through. And, so it was here with the Bears' inaccuracy that kept the Warriors close. Once they got going, the folk from Coney Island proved hard to stop. Ocha905 (102 DT), The Filth Wizard (5.1) and pantskyle (20 disposals and 5 tackles) were very important for the winners. Meanwhile at the Bears, Test Tickle (101 DT), Shadow Man (99 DT) and Millky95 (83 DT) can hold their heads up high for their performance.

Season 37 Round 7

West Coast Wonders 19.9 (123) defeat East Side Hawks 19.3 (117)

A matchup between two top-five teams on the ladder promised so much and it sure delivered but not in the expected way. The Wonders took control in a shootout and opened up a 46 point lead late in the third quarter. The Wonders ground to a halt from there kicking just one further goal as the Hawks stormed home. DenieD kicked 6.3 for the winners with dogs105 and NinjaSwan playing eye-catching supporting roles. BOG though is very likely MP_ whose 26 disposals and 10 tackles kept the Hawks in it. The Dragons consolidated their spot in the eight after bursting out of the blocks, with four goals in the opening six minutes of their clash with the Dees. Pie 4 Life was tremendous in the ruck with 25 disposals, 3 goals and 14 hit outs with Greenery (22 disposals and 6 tackles) and Ligma (22 disposals and 5 tackles) taking full advantage of P4L's work. For the Demons, Scythe94 recorded 10 tackles and 97 DT so is sure to have impressed the sim while Yakker, moginie and manangatang all chances of sneaking into the votes.

Match of the round didn't live up to its name unfortunately as the Swamprats powered away from last season's runner up on the back of a powerful second quarter. A lot of players had stat-heavy performances with philreich, paraaaa and RPCB a chance of votes. For the Bears, Tandy and Test Tickle both were fantastic and are strong chances of polling, with Cap a smoky chance. Both sides entered the match happy- the Furies on the bottom of the ladder after 4 consecutive losses, meanwhile the Warriors were knocking on the door of the eight. For three and a half quarters this was a see-sawing battle before a late surge saw the Furies win comfortably. Shueygod and crazywildhorse combined for 43 disposals and 18 tackles so are sure to have the voters attention, with NaturalDisaster and ShaunDuggan a chance of polling. pantskyle is a realistic chance of votes for the losing side with few other teammates putting up monster stats.

It was the Gumbies who prevailed in the end of a match where the lead was predominantly a single-figure margin. norway blue (18 disposals and 9 tackles), MayTheNorthBeWithU (22 disposals and 15 hitouts) and gab213 (6 goals) are the leading prospects for the Bombers. For the Gumbies, NSWCROW (18 disposals and 7 tackles) and cats_09 (20 disposals, 11 hitouts and 1 goal) are a chance of votes. The Old Boys firmed their grip on the top of the table by dispatching the Royals in a very high-scoring game which consigned the Royals to the foot of the ladder. The Old Boys were led by the not so old King Tenz (25 disposals, 8 tackles and 2 goals) and the somewhat older Harvey Manfrenjensenden with 6 goals. Iva Bigun and IrishBlue both topped 100 DT to be a chance of votes. Intriguingly, the Royals probably have more players who could poll a vote for this match with some huge individual performances. Midfielders Restricted Free Agent (SarahSmiles) 35 disposals, krakouers (33) and Zevon (32) kept Qhampion Data busy. There was a non-midfielder who also had a day out for Gold City- Brenton Davy kicked eight goals in a praiseworthy full-forward performance.

SFACA MVP

This award is to recognise players who traditionally play in non-prominent positions and is purely based on statistical performances.

Similar to last season, the process for this award is an abomination and until it’s fixed, it’s resorting to Admin choice. And so it will be so…

The winner of the Season 37 SFACA MVP Award is JoshWoodenSpoon

Who? You might ask? Well let’s take a look…

JoshWoodenSpoon played 15/16 games at FB for the Bears this season. Despite coming 8th on the ladder and just sneaking into finals, they had a positive 101% percentage further signifying the importance of a solid defensive unit.

Sure, other FB’s may have had better stats. Sure, their teams may have been higher placed finishers. Sure, this award is as much of a joke as okeydoke7 is. Too bad – congrats JWS.

Let’s take a look at his stats:

Averaging 10.5 disposals, 3.5 marks per game, JWS is this season’s SFACA MVP.

Sure, other FB’s may have had better stats. Sure, their teams may have been higher placed finishers. Sure, this award is as much of a joke as okeydoke7 is. Too bad – congrats JWS.

Congrats JoshWoodenSpoon on your thing!
