Go hard in this draft for the quality SA talent - even if needing to trade the likes of Lynch, Jenkins, Atkins, CEY, Hartigan etc.

Contracted players have more value when trading, right? Who wants a 50 goal a year forward for a second rounder? Fremantle's second rounder would be nice if they had one. He could have played as god intended and replaced Ballentyne.

How do people see this year's B&F top 10 panning out:

So far, I'd have:
1. Laird
2. Gibbs
3. Seedsman
4. Talia
5. Doedee
6. Douglas
<daylight>
7. Brown
<daylight>
8. Greenwood
9. Jenkins
<daylight>
10. M. Crouch

Now it has sunk in how shit we are I feel more pissed off today than I have been at any stage this year. A year wasted by incompetent men who will not be held to account.

Take a chill pill. Im angry but whats done is done. We need to hound the club with a petition, emails and a board challenge if need be to have a clean out otherwise things wont change.
This plus we will have the oppurtunity to bring in elite SA talent to look forward to.

so a Richmond board type challenge right good luck with that.

We lose to the Hawks which I think is a given, we will finish 11th. They’ve got about 6 winnable games from here.

I can’t see Essendon overtaking us, they’ve got a hard draw and are effectively 2 games below us.

Port win against WB and they could be 2 games ahead of us with a game in hand.

Collingwood have a touch draw but still enough winnable games that I can’t see us catching them up.

Giants have a tough draw. But they seem to have found form.

So it’s 11th and loving it?
Considering we could potentially only win 2-3 games for the rest of the year, Freo and the Bulldogs could easily finish higher than us.

These crisis moments can go one of two ways ... will be interesting to see how our "best football department" shapes up over the coming weeks and months.

Do we have the gumption to make changes in admin / coaches at the end of the year?

Do we have the sense to play our list through and give players that deserve a chance to show us what they have?

If you go through our list and decide whether each player (if fit) is a guy you want on GF day or not ... it's not all that hard imo:

----------------------------
Hugh Greenwood - YES
Brad Crouch - YES
Riley Knight - YES
Matt Crouch - YES

Probably harsh on a few in there ... CEY, Kelly and Hartigan could be MAYBE, but they should be easy to improve on.

It's those guys in bold that I want to see before we finish the season.

Are we any chance to finish in the top 6? I suppose we will know pretty soon after the bye whether our current form and style is purely because of injury. I'm not seeing it myself, but I'm guessing we will wait until what a full-ish team can do before we can pull the plug completely on 2018.

Before the season started most teams would have been worried about playing the crows at AO.
At this point if you can’t out work the crows bruise free mids you don’t really belong in the 8.
Sorry but can’t see a scenario at this po Not where the crows pull of a road win in the finals. No way

Jenkins would be a yes too, been our best forward.

I said on GF day. I personally don't trust him to do EVERYTHING in his power to win the game. He is a NO from me ... same reason at Atkins gets on the NO list. I just don't believe they will learn from past mistakes at all.

I'll admit that I don't like Jenkins as a footballer, haven't for a while now, but I cannot see how he is ever going to be THAT guy in a GF. Compare him to other second ruck / forwards ... it's not even close. If we are putting him up as our "power forward" that is an even bigger problem.

I'd trade him with the first offer ... wouldn't even negotiate.

Well Collingwood have locked themselves to finish ahead of us, that’s 6 teams I think are sure things.

A loss to Hawks and it’s game over and time to rest/operate on any players who are carrying injuries.

What a fantastically well thought out post. I commend you for your excellent analysis and thank you for how well you articulated it. Have you considered a job in media?

We will finish 11th. My only focus and hope now is that Port dont win the flag. "Operation anyone but port"
Our season is cooked! Noway we are winning 7 out of 10 games to make to make the 8. Heads must roll at seasons end! With our list and after making a GF we should have been challeging again... not missing finals. Our fitness staff from top to bottom must go.. injuries caused this.. now its a confidence thing. We are SHOT.

Pretty much this. It's a bit of a litmus test for our background staff who have talked good game the past couple of years about wanting to be a top tier team.

There is no possible way Burton or Hass can be retained, even if they have a contract at this point in time. There will never be a point of redemption for either seeing this was a golden chance they have squandered (and potentially the last possible year that our older generation are a likely shot for a flag, depending on if Sloane goes/health; I do feel we are better odds for 3-4 years down the track regardless though once this draft goes through).

At least confidence can be rebuilt during preseason, and getting rid of the collective minds charlatans.

Good idea for a thread: yes no maybe. Players who you want in your GF side

We royally ****ed the job up

Well and truly on the tank train now

Get Rankine, Hately and Lycett and clean out the assistants.

Spend some of all this money we must be making on esports and baseball

If Francou and Harts' contracts are a burden put them in charge of the Top ups in the ressies where they can do least damage.

Honestly woeful bargain basement appointments just because they're Adelaide boys

For interest sake.

Daniel Talia - YES
Taylor Walker - YES
Luke Brown - YES
Eddie Betts - YES
Jordan Gallucci - YES - Again, yes. One of Gallucci/Murphy would do me fine in this side. I'd have faith both will do a decent job as a 2nd small forward.
Wayne Milera - YES - Easily a yes for me, seeing he's beginning to become a very good outside midfielder. His toughness has improved out of sight as well.
Darcy Fogarty - YES - Well duh.
Brodie Smith - YES
Rory Laird - YES
Tom Doedee - YES
Mitch McGovern - YES
Lachlan Murphy - YES
Andrew McPherson - YES - Without even playing a game I would, from his draft profile he seems suited to it.
----------------------------
Myles Poholke - MAYBE - Will most likely be a yes in 1-2 seasons. I have a fair bit of time for him, despite his struggles this season.
Tom Lynch - MAYBE - A tad harsh, seeing on one hand he does make us better when we're doing well. He gets nullified very easily when we aren't which makes me think we can improve on this position. 21st/22nd player selected is probably the max I'd go.
Richard Douglas - MAYBE - If he's the 21st/22nd player selected but he does also have a habit of downhill skiing
Rory Atkins - MAYBE - A tad maligned on this board, as he is a good winger. Has that classic outside midfielder problem of being good when everything is going well, struggling when it is not. Similar to Douglas, 21st/22nd player, sure, I'd roll that dice. I wouldn't do it with him having any real bearing to a performance.
Jake Kelly - MAYBE - 2017 Kelly absolutely. 2018 Kelly absolutely not. Unfortunately, he does look like a one season wonder at this point in time.
Kyle Hartigan - MAYBE - Similar to Kelly. The 2016/17 version can do a job as a role playing CHB. Would like to see us upgrade though.
Kyle Cheney - MAYBE - He is a solid footballer, despite being frozen out. Preformed well in 2016.
Elliott Himmelberg - MAYBE
Matthew Signorello - MAYBE
Ben Davis - MAYBE
Alex Keath - MAYBE
Jackson Edwards - MAYBE
Patrick Wilson - MAYBE
----------------------------
Cameron Ellis-Yolmen - NO - I'm really glad we've all stopped with that fantasy world with CEY being a best 22 player. Good depth, and providing he was replacing Greenwood/Crouch for injury, I'd be comfortable with it. I wouldn't want to see him selected for any other reason though
David Mackay - NO - Unfortunately last year dispelled that his luck will translate in a grand final. You do know if we don't delist him, everyone who is blocking his path into the side will come down with the tuberculosis/polio prior to the match.
Josh Jenkins - NO
Curtly Hampton - NO
Sam Gibson - NO
Andy Otten - NO
Sam Jacobs - NO
Reilly O'Brien - NO
Paul Hunter - NO
Harry Dear - NO
Ben Jarman - NO

The amount of people throwing out our best forward this year, interesting
Hate over logic.

We would be in an even worse position without JJ.

Would we? It's not so simple imo. It's not like he steps out of the 22 and no-one replaces him.

If our forward line has Betts, McGovern, Walker, Fogarty, Lynch ... what exactly does JJ bring that is so important? What does he do that is so unique that it cannot be covered? I reckon people are over-rating him big time.

His output is greater than Gov, as is his durability, and as weve seen with Lynch he is only as good as those around him allow him to be.

In the next 12 months or so I would love to see us phase him out for Fog, coincidentally that will be when his contract levels are at their lowest, but until then he is required. Whether that be a 22-25 option or best 22, hes still very much required.

He is best 22 no doubt right now but he still has value. A pick in the 15-20 range I would think. With so much SA talent and an opportunity to combine picks (including picks we get for Sloane and Lynch), we could end up with Lukosius if we wanted.

Tex, McGovern, Fogarty and Lukosius would be the KPFs on our list if that happens and we might be weaker slightly for 2019 but we would be setup for 2021 onwards.
