News Simonds Stadium Stage 4 Redevelopment

I think a big factor in the crowd last night was also it was a second string Australia side being put out on the park, at least 5 of the best T20 eleven are in India at the moment.

Asking $150 a seat for an Australian A side was always going to affect numbers.
The sole reason I didn't attend.

I know I jumped on and looked at tickets at one point, because CA was allowing for walk ups there wasn't a lot left, so people like me who had to travel a couple of hours and with the unknown crowd may have kept away as well.

This may be a totally stupid question, but do we have a naming rights partner for the stadium this year or is it KP this year?

I know that GMHBA takes over the naming rights next year and that the Simonds rights finished last year, though the it was announced they hoped they would extend their partnership by a year to cover 2017.

Reason I ask is that I'm at the cricket and noticed the Simonds name has been removed from the top of the Reg Hickey stand - not sure if a requirement from Cricket Australia (other sponsors have their names covered over) or we have no stadium naming partner this year
Was down at KP this morning and noticed that the Simonds Stadium name is back on top of the Hickey Stand, so I would assume that it was just removed for the cricket and that ground will be still known as Simonds this year but having said that it also look like there is plenty of GMHBA signage at the City end of the ground so definitely a case of best of both worlds this year.

GMHBA took over the "health insurance" sponsorship starting 2016 hence why the NIB signage will be gone I think. Then starting 2017 they also have taken over the ground name rights.

A couple of bays of seats installed in the lower bowl since the T20 game-

It is going to be fantastic when it is all finished, then the sooner they start stage 5 and bulldoze the ford stand and Ablett Terrace the better!

Members Pass says Simonds Stadium on it as well.

Was travelling too fast to take a photo but the work out the back of the stand is looking pretty good now. Reckon it'll look awesome when it's finished.

Looks as if the FFA is going broke so focussing on a Big Bash side might be better long term.

Cricket can afford it, the overwhelming majority of their revenue comes from TV rights internationally and BBL ratings soar annually.

FFA and the A-League has regressed slightly as highlighted by the abysmal performances this week against Asia's finest clubs amongst other factors.

The GFC, Kardinia Park Trust and the Geelong Council need to look after themselves and back the winning horse, in this case Cricket Australia.

I know this hasn't related to the thread, but I've noticed on the mural behind the Players Stand someone has blacked out the sponsor and club badges on the jumper of several of the players, in particular the photos of Travis Varcoe in the 2011 grand final and Hawkins celebrating his after the siren goal against Hawthorn. Wonder if it's deliberate or just vandalism. I'm thinking the latter.

It was done for the cricket, all visible sponsors of anyone were covered...

I dare say they just haven't yet gotten around to removing the tape or vinyl (they would want to do it soon, the longer it is there the harder it will be too remove and the move chance of actually damaging the prints)

Not sure why sponsors logos on the back of the stand which would never be seen on camera need to be covered up. Seems a bit over the top. That explanation would make sense though.

not only that.... they actually covered them up on the photos around near the museum part under the premiership stand as well

Seemed like absolute overkill to me

They do it for Asian champions league games at Etihad coving up every Etihad sign in the concourses and even completely neglecting to mention where the match is played on the tickets just because of Emirates...the only sign they couldn't cover was the massive ones outside near the roof.

I found it interesting the need to do it for the cricket. I mean if you are Simmonds, and pay all this money to have naming rights... surely that should cover you for everything
