Well the dinner has come and gone and it was a great night. Well attended and the promise of a 'great day at the footy' experience.
First off walking to the stadium it is still very much a work site. More on that in a moment.
But as we made our way up the grand stairs and directed to escalators to the Presidents/Social Club rooms, the promise of what's to come when finished becomes evident.
Everyone was directed firstly to the Social Club area. Nicely finished, comfortable and a large space. There was a false wall in place being used for storage. So the full size of the Social Club is significant. There was an area set up for dining near an open kitchen for about 50 and pub tables with some lounges scattered through the remaining Social Club area. Large screen tv's dotted throughout and a large bar that spanned the netball court side of the room. The bar as you would imagine is very well fitted out with windows running along behind the length of the bar giving views out over the Kardinia Park precinct.
Floor to ceiling windows run the length of the Social Club offering great views of the ground. The seating is angled in a way that it looks like everyone will have a great view of the action come game day.
Drinks and nibbles were plentiful and as the numbers built it appears the atmosphere will be great come game day......given tonight.
The first 50 that turned up were seated in the Social Club for dinner and the remaining 100+ were sent next door to the Presidents Room. As you would expect the layout was top notch with entrees on tables ready to go. Refreshments served contiually and then the main course. All food and service top notch.
Rebecca Maddern was there to hold proceedings and she's good value, passionate and great with her time chatting to anyone on the night. Brian Cook was first up. He spoke about how apart from the Premierships this has been one of the most challenging but rewarding achievements of his career. He mentioned that there are double shifts to get the stand complete and that in all seriousness, they are expecting to have the certificate of completion on game day around 2pm! He's sure it will be done. Cookie in talking is also very passionate about the Club and well he's certainly respected and admired by the faithful, we certainly showed our appreciation.
Cookie also spent much of the night happily chatting with anyone in the room.
Scarlo was up next and spoke about the playing group, the new facilities, but mainly the playing group and I should add the coaching group. All I can say is that he's certainly not backwards in telling it like it is. He was good value.
Everyone was then gathered back to the Social Club area for dessert and final drinks and a chat. We didn't get a grand tour of all the new spaces, but it will be a stunning addition once complete. The Social Club facilites would have to be about the best in the AFL. Presidents Room..... top shelf.
Atmosphere for all will be fantastic with fans back on that side of the ground.
Bring on round 9! Go Cats!

Sorry I couldn't get any pics or video, but I've respected the club's wishes to not do so. Come game day though I'll get some.

(Typed this quickly at work.....hope it gives a bit of an idea!)

Outside the seating appears to be more spaced out, little more leg room and room to each side.

Thanks for such a great report of the night, sounds like the Social Club is going to be a great place to view the game from for years to come

How far away is the stand from completely being done do you think it will be on time for what you saw

As mentioned we only really got to see the Social Club and Presidents areas.....with obviously overlooking the new seating areas inside the ground. Cookie has said that all is on target but this is with workers there around the clock and it literally hittting completion the afternoon of the game v the Dogs. Whilst there certainly seems to be quite some work to do, things have moved along from what I saw the week before. There may be tweaking here and there over the coming weeks but I'd be confident that the Club gets it done.

BRIAN Cook says Geelong will receive approval to operate its new Brownlow Stand just the day before Friday week’s clash against the Western Bulldogs.

The stand, which also houses the new football headquarters and a 1000-seat function centre, was completed on time and on budget.

However, an occupancy certificate, which signifies a building surveyor is satisfied the completed work is suitable for occupation, has not yet been received.

“We will get the occupancy certificate the day before or on the day which allows patrons to come in,’’ Cook said.

“So it’s going to be finished on the last day, so to speak, but it will definitely be finished.

Thanks for the post animalrocks

One question... could you see into the rooms with the glass floor or was that covered up?
No.....I didn't see that part unfortunately.
From memory in the computer generated fly through there was the Fan Hub and the glass at the top of the main stairs.
I did ask about the Fan Hub to one of the GFC staff on leaving and he told me that the Fan Hub was for GMHBA members only.....not sure if that is correct or not. I would have asked Cookie if I had been told that earlier.

TY Thunder Road ...as an expat that loves the club and who spent so much time at KP in my younger days, your photos are sensational for me.

Great job mate.

and how good does it look!!!!
Glad they bring a little bit of home to you in Switzerland. It is indeed looking sensational, can't wait to see it filled and rocking one week from tonight!

Thunder Road, is that new LED signage around the ground or is it just an expansion of the same? Will be at the ground next week, hopefully grab some photos.
From what I could tell yesterday the screens will go all around the ground except for a small section of regular signage in front of the Premiership Stand. I think this is an extension from last year but I'm not completely sure. I don't know if we own or lease the LED panels, so they could be the original ones or they could have been at another venue before we got them. They don't look completely new to me.

I'm not too proud to admit that I will never forget the moment I walked up the steps and into the seating area V the Gold Coast for our first night game.
Took my breath away and very nearly brought a tear to my eye with pride.

Very excited about next week, reckon the same feelings will be felt
