So the coach has no say on player rotations?

Rotations? Probably has some say.

Whether an injured player is able to go back onto the field? Pretty sure that’s the medical staff’s job. Maybe back in the 70s you’d get the old firebrand coaches saying “just strap him up and send him back out there!” but we’ve moved well away from that.

Seems to be Simmos answer to everything. Even has a person to check if his players are alive or dead

Yes, the player welfare manager. Simmo deals largely with the healthy players in the mix for a game. Those injured are in rehab steered by the footy dept boss and S&C. Those unhealthy (Jake Waterman types) would be in communication primarily with footy boss and player welfare manager.

I don't know why this is such a shock. Simmo would be updated on things each week or as necessary, but otherwise he is there to coach the fit players, not deliver chicken soup to someone at home with the sniffles.

If he cant manage 40 odd people without someone holding his hand, he isnt up to the job as a coach

So lets see. Ginbey has a hamstring strain. 2 days later is een running at a good pace around the oval. Medical prognosis : Send him for surgery to help ensure it doesn't happen again.

If I was Ginbey or his manager I'd be asking questions about whether it was really necessary and is this a similar situation to Shuey's calf issues, Naitanui's achilles issue and Yeo's groin issues because its sounding so familiar.

Just another day at the Eagles doctors office

"So what seems to be the problem"
"ive just got this nagging cough and...."
"Okay ill stop you there. Im going to recommend lung surgery to increase your lung capacity and protect you from future coughs. Expected recovery time is to be confirmed but im not expecting you to be out of action for as long as you think you will be out of action for. Ive booked you in for 4AM tomorrow morning. To prepare for your surgery im just asking you to spend a couple of hours running laps around Mineral Resources Park to prepare yourself"

So thats why he is called the coach. Thanks for the clear facts.

On CH7 with Ryan Daniels just now, Simpson explained that it was indeed minor and quite low in the hamstring

The operation is a precaution that is intended to strengthen the hamstring for the future

He also said that Shuey’s hamstring is very minor and he’s not feeling any discomfort to the point where he’s a chance to play this weekend pending scans

Yeo a possibility this weekend but if not, will be right the following week

How close to reality any of the above is I wouldn’t now but that is what was said
There is no such thing as precautionary surgery to strengthen the tendon for the future. The biggest furphy I've heard all year.

It is code for. He ****ed his hammy and needs it surgically repaired, but we can't have the supporters losing their minds any further.

Jamaine Jones might actually play again this year? 😅

Poor bugger has to be the only LTI actually still pushing.

On this week’s “Ask Simmo”, Simpson pretty much said he was surprised to see Ginbey running at training and had to ask the question as to why he was doing that. Not sure whose making these decisions or allowing these things to happen but surely something needs to change…

The injury crisis has actually started to clear, which is a good sign. If the tests get up, we'll only have 4 left that haven't been ruled out for the season.

Of those that have been ruled out for the year, 3 were preventable soft tissue type injuries (Edwards and Ginbey), 3 were bad luck or collision injuries (Ryan, Waterman and Culley) and 1 is a body failing from a long career (Nic Nat).

Shuey out for 2-3 with 5 games remaining and he’s on 247 games :'(

Put him as sub for the third last game even if he's 50/50.
Would be an absolute travesty if he doesn't make 250.

And given that we've commonly been down to no bench rotations by half time (due injuries), being an injured player on the bench down wouldn't be anything we haven't become used to.

Even if he's in a wheelchair put him on the bench and get him to 250.

Edit - It's not as if it's going to cost us a finals spot or anything.

Like Embers before him, it's only fitting that we get to farewell our outgoing club great and Norm Smith medalist in style. By watching him play his 250th and final game in a crushing home defeat at the hands of Adelaide.

Hopefully Hurn doesn't play the part of Wirra who was too injured to pull on the boots one more time

Goes to an internal disconnect.

Could explain, in part so much.

Something, something left hand, right hand.
