It’s the last game of the season so all players are now listed as out for the season

Chesser and Burgiel have both been removed from the list after recovering from their respective injuries

Andrew Gaff has retired and won’t be available to play

Jeez Hewett. This is the kid who missed 2 months last year when stepped on an uneven patch of grass. Burgiel got here and has spent most of his time ripping one hamstring after another. Archer Reid is recruited...with an injury, arrives at the club...with an injury and is currently...still injured.

You'd think there'd be a bit more due diligence before the decision is made to invest a draft pick in someone. What's a thorough medical worth?

I'm surprised that in the AFL we don't see something more like the medical protocols that professional soccer players have to go through when switching clubs. Some big money deals have fallen over when the prospective buyer doesn't like the look of what the scans say. You don't bring damaged goods into your club. Probably an example of how the AFL still lacks professionalism in so many areas.

So...does that mean this year is pretty much cooked then? Sounds like it if he's going to specialists in the pre season.

I reckon he's done for the season now.

The positive is we are sending him to someone with results on the board instead of some Perth based leech and lime water specialist.

I reckon he will be back round 2 and win the Brownlow. Just a gut feel.

In al honesty though, sometimes you can be treated for months or years and nothing works but then you meet someone who has the recipe for your ailment and your fixed. Happened to me suffering a good year of knee pain and countless physio visits until I found the right one.

Gotta hand it to the club

Their ability to find new and exotic injuries for players is unparalleled

Who had sesamoiditis on their bingo card

I’ve never heard of it
It's a thing.

It's debilitating and in the ballet world always treated exactly the way the club has embarked on. In fact if most players adopted the strategies Sue will teach him, lower limb stress related injuries would plummet. There's a reason ballet dancers miss very little with stress injuries of the feet now days.

Send the whole team there.

What....like when clubs were gun shy and didn't select Judd because he had bad shoulders and wouldn't make it?!!

You do know that clubs draft players with a view that they'll be 10-15 year players, right?

They’ve just put up a vid on the WC website with EH talking about his injury. He seems pretty upbeat tbh - good attitude.

Someone with more IT skills than me will share I’m sure.

For those wanting a link

So it’s been there for a while but not bad enough to stop him training/playing until this preseason when he increased his workloads

That’s promoted time out to deload and likely further investigate the cause resulting in a finding sesamoiditis.

With the right program from an expert hopefully he finds the right exercises to get over it and can avoid an operation

Good luck to him and least he’s been able to keep relatively fit. Also is a pretty good size for a second year player

I put it down to the Judd factor.

We won that one ad he had, supposedly, dodgy shoulders.

So we just keep doubling down on the injured recruits, that slide, and havent played footy since Noah launched the ark.

Sounds good! Let's ditch our crappy song and just have the team do a pre-game Swan Lake instead

Two things

1) Individual clubs aren’t allowed to have their own medical assessments done on potential draftees. The AFL arrange them and forward the results/report to clubs. I’ve no idea how detailed those medicals are - maybe WCE_phil might be able to shed some light on what’s provided

2) The recruitment of perennially injured players is a popular meme in this board but it really doesn’t have any basis in fact. I can name Swift and Cavka as players with significant injuries in their draft year. More recently Chesser could be added to that pair. Maybe there’s one or two others but they don’t come to mind. Even so it’s not much of a list over 15 years of draft history since Swift was taken in 2008.

Funny also that you mention Noah as Noah Long did miss some football in his draft year potentially contributing to his slide yet he’s shaping as one of our great draft steals
