Now you're starting to sound like bedfordFor sure. That one year where Glen Eira pinched essentially an entire list of under 17's has hurt the club.
Haven't said anything for a long time Mr HackNow you're starting to sound like bedford
God Yeah - if there is no link to the EMJFC where do East Malvern get their players from? Do any local kids find their way down to Dunlop? Based on the demographic of the area I would assume most kids in that area got to private schools and then on to the VAFA. Does that mean that essentially EM have to recruit the vast majority from outside the area? Must be an expensive exercise if a every recruiting target has to be lured on the promise of a dollar.Just a quick memo to those Dingley folk who are heading to Dunlop reserve this week. Please be kind, the supporters have been bracing themselves for the past few months knowing this week would come and it has finally arrived.
Win with grace, enjoy the spoils of victory and as you leave turn off the lights and with it, the life support that has been keeping East Malvern in Division 1 in 2022.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made over the bar post game.

Played in Div. 1 GF a few years ago so a rapid fall from grace. If the so called benefactors have checked out and money becomes tight, I expect EM might find themselves in dire straits and heading to the lower grades in hurry.
Sticky situation for the panthers. Their location in a traditionally high SES area with lots of nearby elite private schools, and by the time the kids are in that 16+ age group they likely have formed a stronger connection with their private school. Same could be told for East Brighton who I feel would have the majority of their kids at Brighton Grammer and Haileybury which are down the road... so no surprise the senior club has a non existent relationship with their juniors and would have very few in any boys who have gone all the way from juniors to seniors at the club.Great questions BTL - For season 2022 EMJFC has an U/16 boys team and possibly next season an U/17's. Historically most players have dropped out at U/16 as private school football commitments become overwhelming on a weekend or they continue their footballing journey at another club. This results in no feeder program for the senior club to develop or build on. It's almost impossible to remain linked to a player from U/16 football for another 3-4 years before they are ready to play 2's or 1's (EM not having an under team).
Most players form new friendships and rightly pointed out are swallowed up the very strong VAFA sides within the area (Old Xavs, St Kevins, Caulfield Grammar and De La Salle). Most people at the club would be lucky to draw up a list of players in the last 20 years who represented both the junior and senior club.
This season a large group of mates who wanted to play together came across from St Kevins, some of them were good enough to play senior footy, some of them didn't want too and others were just honest 2's players. They wanted to play together and that was evident in the different results from the 2's to 1's.
Recruitment historically has been from outside the area (and outside metro Melbourne) and has a large financial element too it, as we have seen time and time again in local footy that model is not sustainable.
I have said in previous posts that Div 2 is where the club needs to be for a number of seasons, not just from a talent perspective but to allow the club to rebuild and re-focus on how it moves forward. I'm not close enough to know if the benefactors have moved on but if they have it makes the task of rebuilding more and more difficult.
For a club that has a prime location and the opportunity to recruit from one of the biggest junior clubs in the state, I feel this could be the start of the eventual demise of what was and what continues to be a very proud club. As has happened in seasons gone, the club has always somehow found a way.

But look at clubs like Dingley, Bentleigh and Cheltenham who have traditionally always had consistent 19s pathways... No private schools near their homes so the kids are probably more inclined to continue at their local club. Not really sure how Malvern can attempt to rectify this, but from what you've said sounds like repairing the relationship with the juniors is the first step in a long staircase.
Alot of kids in Cheltenham play juniors for Beaumaris and always have and then you have Mentone Grammar and St Bedes who have the boys in Secondary School so Chelt have always battled to get juniors across, even Cheltenham Panthers can’t be relied on as a feeder ClubSticky situation for the panthers. Been a known fact that in the past Cheltenham Panthers have had St Bedes or Beaumaris aligned coaches leading junior teams & therefore steering them away from the RosellasAlot of kids in Cheltenham play juniors for Beaumaris and always have and then you have Mentone Grammar and St Bedes who have the boys in Secondary School so Chelt have always battled to get juniors across, even Cheltenham Panthers can’t be relied on as a feeder Club
Winnings from the part ownership share of Dissident slowly dried up or am I way off the mark?Just on the highlighting of the expensive exercise that is $ driven recruitment. EMFC are hosting a $180ph AFL GFE lunch at St. Kilda town hall, possibly they see this as the option for funding season 2023 and rebounding back to Div 1.
At that price and venue choice I'm certainly not forking out $180 to listen to Jeff Thompson and David Rhys-Jones!
No current season stats available

Maybe seen what Crimebourne have doneDon’t know if this just a rumour but was told both Chelsea and Bonbeach are thinking of joining the Southern in 2023?
Surely both clubs wouldn’t leave the MPFL as it’s a much superior standard to Southern Division 1 unless they both want to go trophy hunting.

Edi-Asp & Chelsea might in 2024, Edi-Asp Div 2 next year and Chelsea no chance of promotion in near future. Might chance arm to move to a SFNL "Premier" Division. If they bring in Edi-Asp and Narre Warren with them as well, the standard of Division 1 would improve noticeably.
A bit pie in the sky though, I reckon.

Narre would rather stay in OEFNL than SFNL as an option.
So Narre putting in submission to MPNFL( which we all know will fail) and EFNL. If rejected by EFNL( which they are led to believe will be accepted) then other option is to stay in OEFNL.Narre looking to move for sure. But netball has a big say in that
lo
Bonbeach will stay in that comp. They are a strong club in that league. Chelsea who knowsDon’t know if this just a rumour but was told both Chelsea and Bonbeach are thinking of joining the Southern in 2023?
