The growth of the SFL continues, excellent. Just need to get the Dragons going again and it could be south Districts and OAFC to be added as well...
Your mate bedford will be putting his vote in to come across to the SFL for sure

hahahah yes ol Bedford would love to be apart of the mighty SFL - NOT! Seriously though the SFL keeps attracting clubs which is a good thing as recent additions in Dingley, Keysie and Bentleigh have added a lot along with the younger clubs in Hallam and the Hills. They suit the SFL so much better is my view.Your mate bedford will be putting his vote in to come across to the SFL for sure

Dragons are gone never to return which is a shame
Half the clubs are in debt or barely surviving and the league has introduced new clubs into areas where they are competing with struggling sfl clubs for players and sponsors.

Still trying to work out how clubs with no juniors will survive under the new points regime?
All their recruits will come from other clubs and leagues and will attract higher points, especially if they try to recruit a mercenary. Keysborough and Port Colts (assuming it is true) left their leagues because they were uncompetitive and with no juniors. Not sure where the Colts are going to find their future players. Just hope the SFL does not become the hospice where clubs head before they die.

Port Colts have used South Melb districts juniors as a feeder team, have done for years. Used to be the good players from South districts went to Port Colts & the rest were steered towards the seniors at South Melb (but I'm talking a few years ago)

The league in previous year have introduced sides into the comp with at times disastrous results : Brooklyn Bulls Div 3 no longer in league, Parkmore Div 3 no longer in league, Sthn Dragons Div 3 left for vafa came back now gone, South Mornington Div 3 left for vafa after 2 seasons ,Cerberus continually plays Thirds not a win for the league.
Dingley a tick,Keysbourgh a tick,Skye a tick,CPL a tick, on face value EH a tick, Hallam so far a fail,Bentleigh a tick.
Dingley,Bentleigh and Keysy have long term history behind them, Skye and CPL have very good junior structures.
The introduction of new teams into the SFNL should be scrutinized with criterias prior to implementing clubs into Divisions so we don't get sides falling over mid year, any new start up club from here on in should start in the Thirds for 1 year and monitored with player numbers and results.
Port Colts appear to have numbers the question being will there players travel to the S E Suburbs every week if they are not competitive.
South M Dist former S E S club maybe wanting to come back have been around a long time but once again demographics suggest this side is out of the
Southern area.

I have no doubt hallam would be doing better if the league hadn't allowed another new club to start up 2km up the road while Hallam were still trying to establish themselves.

Which club ? EH they were in season 2011 were as Hallam were in 2012 so what club you on about.
Whichever way it was, my point was wouldn't you let one club find it's feet first?

So how long is find your feet, 1 year , 2 years , 5 years good club management generally leads to on field success or stability you could have as many clubs within a 10 k radius provided there management is sound.

Good comments Trend, master but I reckon that Brooklyn Bulls,mornington, Parkside were during the years prior to the re birth of the league, Dragons were going really well the first time they were with the SFL. Both EH and Hallam are too close and fight for the same resources on and off field. The points system will hurt clubs without Juniors but only if those clubs are in Divvy 1 as there would not be too many players that would be categorised under the points system in most SFL clubs, will hurt the EFL and EDFL, wrfl though particularly those without juniors

Good point Tiger but I reckon half a dozen years ago the SFL were just trying to build wherever they could as the league was just about closed down, more clubs and teams = more revenue to stay afloat.

That is a shame they were so good the first time they played in the SFL - 3 teams. The VAFA ruined them I reckon, the SFL supported them the VAFA considered them just a number..
I agree. That only works if the clubs are viable and paying the fees though.
6 clubs within about 5-7km of each other, all drawing heavily from the same pool of local players as they are not wealthy clubs that can recruit heavily from outside their area. Most clubs in the area playing at the same level of footy. Several other much stronger clubs on the fringe of this 5-7km area taking the cream of local talent.
The area is an older area so junior numbers are on the decline fairly rapidly.
Pretty tough environment to introduce a new club into. To then introduce a second new club so quickly, if at all, was the wrong call.
Clearances over the years show that these clubs eat away at each other.
Good club management can only take you so far if those that are supposed to be taking care of the bigger picture are in fact making the landscape more difficult

To judge the relative strength of the SFL based on the number of clubs coming into the competition is flawed. I’m with others on this and believe that the SFL needs to do more to support the many clubs in that area that are finding the going really tough before they welcome another. There is already an abundance of clubs in the Dandenong area, most don’t have juniors and many are really feeling the pinch. And this goes beyond the SFL with Doveton and Hampton Park, two SEFL clubs that are also in the doldrums, competing with the SFL in an already very shallow player pool. Good on Lyndhurst as they seem to have a junior set up but can’t help thinking these spells more bad news for other clubs in the area.
Those old enough to remember will recall Dingley and Port Colts being part of the old SESFL so for those clubs it is something of a homecoming. However I would caution against just throwing open to doors to everyone. You don’t want this comp becoming a dumping ground or place of last resort for clubs who can no longer cut the mustard in other leagues. They need to provide they are viable and sustainable and a clause that they must field a Colt’s team within 2 years of joining would be a good start.
And finally this culture of blaming others for clubs demise has to stop. The Dragons falling over was entirely down to them as a club not the SFL, VAFA, City of Kingston or anyone else.
The efl clubs vote on letting in new clubs to the league at a meeting of presidents. This allows existing clubs to voice there concerns or support one way or another before the presidents vote. There are clear standards that must be met by potential new clubs and the whole process is transparent
