Grigg's issue is that we could get him for free eventually. Hes the kind of player you dump to get fresh blood in.
Much like Dav, Logan, Harding, Nash etc.
Sure these players occasionally come good, but why give up something for them, there is plenty of free talent with the same risk/reward (unless its a spud swap in the hope both clubs win).
If its for free we are interested in anything, once you start talking $ intrest gone.
Thing is would he be worse than what we have drafted lately?.....would he make our starting 22? has he got a good looking sister? these are the questions that need to be asked.

Well, pretty much any time a trade we have been involved in has been signalled as likely before trade week, it has been a terrible trade/one out of our control. So no news is good news.

I don't think we'd show much interest in Davey unless we didn't have to give up much at all. He's had 1 or 2 serious injuries as well.

Clubs like the Crows and Eagles would perhaps show more interest in him.

Why would we go for minson if we are chasing a ruck then we should have a crack for jacobs

Peter Rohde about to be on 5CC.

Want to keep draft picks
Prepared to talk about D Motlop - preference to go west, but could go to Melbourne (assume he meant city not club). Did expect him to have a very good season and could be at Port. Is training now.
Anyone is tradeable if the right player is on offer
Want better footskills
Said we have two second-round picks
We want our second, third, fourth year players getting a chance to play - not be held up by incoming recruits. Any recruits would have to genuinely improve the side.
Rohde has been in Melbourne and Perth, draft camp talking to clubs
Assistant coaches - interviewed quite a few people, one today. Should be in place by end of the week.

All this sounds really good.

All this sounds really good.

It does sound good, but it raises the question of why it wasn't our policy last off-season (Nash, Harding).........admittedly a rhetorical question.

Improved foot skills are fine, as long as it doesn't mean acquiring players with perceived good foot-skills, whose kicking looks neat but is largely hit-and-miss (Lonie and Nash).

The club has definitely made the right choice not aiming for Jacobs' IMO

I don't see us being absolutely uninvolved in trade week though. I'd suggest we will be trying to get more draft picks before the third round, and maybe try to pick up a pacey outside player.

Good point. You'd want running players on the bench. I think a lot of teams will now only pick 1 genuine ruck in their selected sides.
Sounds like Choco Williams fleet of foot ball carrier player type was about 6 years to late. The AFL is making changes that will suit the types of player he wanted a few years back. If he pulls another head coaching gig and can get away from his chip chip retain the ball at all costs gig, he'll do well.

Should be an interesting week at the trade table with GC17 coming in.

New AFL rules for 2011 is 3 on the bench + 1 sub.

Probably makes sense now to not go for lumberjack rucks like Jacobs.

the afl is so f@#$ing stupid. how does that decrease interchanges?

would collingwood not still have 100+ interchanges a game? just 3 guys doing it not 4? they will probably have more frequent interchanges if that is possible. can you swap for a sub at any time or just after an injury? so if you have an injury 10 mins into the game thats your sub gone, but you cant bring him on again if after a qtr he feels ok like sometimes happens. so our great game with its stories of finals heroics when players have come back onto the ground (brereton) and done great things will never happen again? lets call us footsoccerball now.

macdermots suggestion was the simplest, most common-sense thing anyone has put forward on this.

if clubs can only swap players through the interchange at certain times like after a goal, then they wont be pulling their best players off at key points, and you cant have the contant stream of players through the gates that we have now. simple, ild like to see the pies have 120 rotations with that system. or leave it as it is rather than screwing it up losers. sorry, but am i the only one that thinks as a result of this we could see the end of the monsters in our game the j browns and the primuses and see them replaced by 197cm sticks that can run? an entire league of teams with 2nd ruckmen like westhoff? and that would pass on to the forward and backline it will all be about flexibility. dont pick the best player, pick the player that can best cover several positions.

Maybe it's the difference between Primus and Choco?

In any case Rohde said all the right things. If only we can make a habit of talking well to the media.

NB - looks like we're cashing in our krak pick early. Will be interesting to see how this ends up.

With Jolly dominating at Collingwood and an exodus of Ruck stocks would we have a carck at Cameron Wood or Josh Fraser?
I think they will discard Leon Davis and may have and interest in Motlop although they have plenty of forwards, well they have pretty much plenty of everything.
I thought they didn't have a genuine tagger until the GF replay.
