The Chapman trade is ridiculous on so many different levels. I can't even be bothered going through them all.

Don't blame me I was just putting it out there, I didn't suggest names though :)

Minson would be a great contributor to our `free kick against' count.

From what I've seen, Dogs fans seem to think he is worth a significant draft pick, which he isn't. So yeah nah.

Sydney players currently have high value given their finals finish despite the list turn over. The time is right for them to cash in and trade. The balance of their list may also be skew compared to us.

Port players have low percieved value - we need to hold. Sideways trades are pointless. Also we are relatively balanced so there's no real overload of players for a given position - there surely isn't any player asking to leave from lack of opportunities! Only an elite mid is worth trading for and even then we'll probably have to give up one of our good KPPs which simply won't happen. We may not be brilliant in any position, but we also don't have any major black holes.

They traded well last year after a poor season, and despite losing Hall and Jolly, their pickups (Kennedy, McGlynn) proved quite inspired. I think we might be about to take the easy option with this trade period, if we are convinced that our list is "good enough" and that there aren't options out there for us.

We probably could have got Kennedy or mcglyn from them in the Burgoyne trade rather than nash. Both were floated as options I think

Chapman  we could offer Boak Gray Pearce and all our picks and still not have a hope in hell
It's kind of nauseating how some from our board undervalue our own players.

Are you seriously suggesting that Geelong's recruiters wouldn't be all over that like a flock of seagulls on a packet of chips!!!

Hell, given they've just lost Ablett, they'd snap up Boak in exchange for a guy who is almost 29.

lol toots, I think he was exaggerating :)

We would have to way overpay to get Chapman given that there is very little reason for geelong to try and trade him to us. Why on earth would he come here anyway.

I don't think he was exaggerating much. Just part of a negative stream of thinking regarding our list that gives succour to our rivals.

The question is why would we want a player who has just about passed his best years and will be in his early thirties by the time we are ready to challenge, having in the meantime blocked the development of a younger player like say....Butcher.

Brendan Fevola, get him on the cheap for 2 years until Butcher is ready.
He can be Butcher's buddy to take him nightclubbing and Adelaide Casino.

Seriously, not sure.
Any big name player will end up at the GC or GWS over the next couple of years.
I would love a superstar like a Buddy Franklin to bring people through the gates and give us that X-Factor. I will miss Warren, but we don't have the coin of the 2 new franchises, the attraction of extra income being in melbourne, or nor do we bottom out to the spoon to get a superstar like Riewoldt, Goddard etc.
Our list is in a stage where we don't have an absolute superstar, probably closest is Boak and the only way of getting a superstar is finishing bottom or trading someone like Boak and a draft pick.
Maybe Fev is the closest to a superstar we can get, a third time lucky Barry Hall anyone?

Minson, lol. That's a good one. As a stop gap/2nd ruck to Brogan, Minson isn't much of an upgrade on Cloke.

The same poster said we're after Hill. Replacement for Mots? Doubt it.

Yeah, lets do it. Thornton + Salopek should get it done.

With a strict contract with behavior clauses, counseling and monitoring I could come to like the idea of considering Fevola.

It may sound crazy, but he is a fantastic Footballer who has a lot of off-field issues. If we could manage them well, in Adelaide away from the big cities he could be a great pick.

Would I want us to throw much at him, or much time? No.

But if it was an option, until Butcher is up for it, its plausible. Would bring crowds aswell.

Yeah, no. Fevola is a taller Brett Ebert. Needs a paddock, and is probably 30 next year, and is on a massive contract, and has behaviour issues.

How about we stop aiming for new players with off-field issues until we can manage the ones that we already have. How about we let Primus concentrate on getting a gameplan set up based around players that are interested in playing AFL football every weekend.

We should sack me and re-hire Choco.

Toots, there is no way i am at all negative about our playing list. the simple fact is for what we would have to give away to get Chapman, it would throw our club and its recruiting policy into disrepute
