Chapman is 29, he's not a priority unless on the cheap which wouldn't happen. In saying that it certainly wouldn't take Boak, Gray and Pearce to get him to the club.

Brendan Fevola, get him on the cheap for 2 years until Butcher is ready.
He can be Butcher's buddy to take him nightclubbing and Adelaide Casino.

Seriously, not sure.
Any big name player will end up at the GC or GWS over the next couple of years.
I would love a superstar like a Buddy Franklin to bring people through the gates and give us that X-Factor. I will miss Warren, but we don't have the coin of the 2 new franchises, the attraction of extra income being in melbourne, or nor do we bottom out to the spoon to get a superstar like Riewoldt, Goddard etc.
Our list is in a stage where we don't have an absolute superstar, probably closest is Boak and the only way of getting a superstar is finishing bottom or trading someone like Boak and a draft pick.
Maybe Fev is the closest to a superstar we can get, a third time lucky Barry Hall anyone?

We're young enough to make our own superstars. Understand the angle of needing the crowd-puller type though and Boak probably is our biggest right now, Schulz could be a genuine cult figure in the AFL if he skyrockets next season.

I wouldn't mind if we made some trades got something for Motlop and used everything on young players. We should be active in the next trade week and the one after as we are getting better (hopefully). Hopefully not for a ruckman.

I couldn't see Ebert in our best 22 in 2012... surely?

we'd get next to nothing for motlop right now, but i reckon with a decent preseason he could return to form.

ebert i wouldn't mind seeing in more of a midfield role and bombing it into the attacking 50..... something like what dew used to do (from my current drunken memory). he's got a good set of hands and a booming (although slightly inaccurate) kick, i reckon he'd stretch a few opponents in the centre and be pretty damaging. let him fill that hole that left by tredrea, leading outside the 50 and bombing it in.

Dont even think he needs to be in the midfield for that.

The Robert Murphy/Adam Schneider half forward role up the ground would be perfect for him. He'll never have the tank to be an AFL midfielder.

indeed... not necessarily a pure midfielder, just someone who plays closer to the centre of the field. we know he's not the best set shot, but i reckon he'd cause problems by taking strong marks outside the 50 and kicking it to the likes of schulz and stewart (and eventually butcher) on the lead.

how old is ebert and how worthwhile is it to retrain him at this point

He's servicable enough to retain on the list and with his knee we probably wouldn't get much for him. 28 isn't he? Wouldn't surprise me to see him push down the pecking order.

he's 26. the way choco played him he'd be borderline in terms of retaining his spot. but the guy won the magarey as a midfielder, surely he'd be better value closer to the middle of the field. its pretty well documented that he's questionable kicking from well inside the 50 while he can slot it from well outside. he's got a great set of hands for a smaller guy and a booming kick, why not use it? or at least try him in a slightly different role

thoughts on Shaun Grigg? only 22 and wasn't too bad from memory. He's looking to get out of Carlton

Meh. Inside mid who's too similar to the Cassisi and Thomas types. Could be a decent pickup for someone, but not for us.

If Ebert starts forward and the opposition play a tall defender on him (like many teams have done previously) thats when he needs to be pushed up the ground and draw the tall defender with him. Leaves Stewart and Schulz one less big bloke to contend with.

If the opposition play a small on him Id back Ebert overhead most times to beat someone his own size.

Its been mentioned before but I reckon Ebert suffers from 6ft 4 syndrome. Our players deliver it to him like hes 6ft4, he is played like he is a 6ft 4 kpf but if he actually was 6ft 4 he would be an awesome forward to have, but he's not. We just need to find a better way to use him.

Toots, there is no way i am at all negative about our playing list. the simple fact is for what we would have to give away to get Chapman, it would throw our club and its recruiting policy into disrepute
Well I guess every club wants to get as much as possible in a trade.

But I reckon if we offered them Boak for Chapman they'd be falling over themselves to sign before we changed our minds. If you think we'd be paying over the odds with that trade I'd be fully in agreement with you.

Like I said earlier, in any case we shouldn't be after Chapman because by the time we are ready to challenge he'd be 31 at least and have spent a couple of years blocking opportunities for our younger forwards to develop.

Anyway I'm sorry I was a bit strong in my earlier reaction. I'd just had a crocodile sandwich and was feeling a bit snappy. :)

To be frank, if our trade week was IN: Tambling, OUT: Logan, I don't know that our squad would be any better next year or the year after.

You might sleep easier knowing that it appears to be the crows who have the interest in Tambling. Reportedly was in Adelaide to meet with them this week.

Sydney have reportedly put a $1.6M 4 year offer to Justin Sherman, while Mitch Clark is looking to get out of Brisbane, but only back to WA (Freo specifically).

Getting sick and tired of seeing all these guys (and theres a fair few)wanting out and nominating preferred clubs or destinations. How many want to head our way "0".... I've seen players linked to Syd, Adel, Carlt, Coll, Freo etc etc and even Richmond!

Even the duds wanting out don't want to come here, which I know is a good thing in one way however whats that saying if even duds dont want to come over.

Motlop is about the only trade that may happen IMO and it will likely be on the last day for a crap pick.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If we had offered more money to Jacobs than the crows, I'm sure he would've elected Port. The Crows are the ones making all the moves, not us. That said, we may still bring a player or two over. Just because it's not being reported in the media doesn't mean things aren't happening in the background.

Primus said (not in these words but) that we didnt need another ruckman.

We ruled him out, and according to the Carlton board he had elected to come to Port. If he becomes a superstar we can only blame ourselves

yeah but...

At least the core of our list is a really tight knit group. This has been reported (even in the Melbourne media) this year, and you only have to read the constant twitter banter between Boak, Gray, Logan, Sala, Chaplin, Davenport, Kane, Chad, Tredders etc to see that. We've got to thank for the barrage of re-signings this year. Makes you think we've got a good group of fellas and it's an enjoyable environment to work in.

So that's a huge turn-around from the supposed discontent from 2008/09, and the exodus we'd all been bracing for.

Very few interstate-born players are ever going to want to move to Adelaide, especially when it's to come to a club that's perceived to be struggling. The only exceptions will be either discards who are grateful to be given a second opportunity, or players who have a personal tie to a player / coach at the club.

Don't know what we can do to change that, except for winning and positively promoting the club.

Yeah, all good points.

Hopefully the Crows get Jacobs at a high price (on the back of 1 or 2 good games he played) and Tambling at a high price (only due to his age and being a top ten pick and all...haha), then i hope they stink ;).

Would really like to see some good young SA boys in our list now to go with our group.

guys like mitch clark only come out and say " i want to go to team a" when their manager has spoken to the club and its greenlit ( at least up to that point). otherwise they would look like an idiot if they came out and said " i want to go to team a", and team a says " well we are flattered but ummm well we cant take you''.

the fact guys arnt coming out and saying this about our club doesnt mean no one wants to come here. ild say we are one of very few teams that dont need the middle of the road players and im very happy we dont seem to be chasing them. what we need is a couple of players of real quality. if they arnt available dont waste your time. what the hell would we want with walker? or jacobs who i dont rate to have as much potential as lobbe and bass in the modern game. veszpremi? no thanks.

Grigg's issue is that we could get him for free eventually. Hes the kind of player you dump to get fresh blood in.
Much like Dav, Logan, Harding, Nash etc.
Sure these players occasionally come good, but why give up something for them, there is plenty of free talent with the same risk/reward (unless its a spud swap in the hope both clubs win).
