i cant think of one st kilda midfielder who is overly physical.

guerra is a forward pocket.

Just the pressure they apply to the ball carrier. Eagles midfield is all attack. Hayes is a very good offensive and defensive player, Powell is a physical player, Black doesn't mind a bit of the rough stuff... but just overall, they are more accountable and their midfield as a whole applies physical pressure on whoever has the ball.

Though they did seem to be less accountable against Collingwood.

At the moment, I'd say Fletcher, Embley, Wirrpunda and Braun.

Will Harvey play?

Not sure at this stage. The word from the club was that he was just rested in the second half but he was definitely limping after the game. With his recent history of soft tissue injuries he won't be played unless they are 100% sure that he's right.

If he does play I can't think of a player that deserves to be dropped to make way for Hayes. Maybe Goddard will be the unlucky one.

That's definitely been the hallmark of our season so far. I don't like the term but we don't really have one midfielder that you can describe solely as an outside player. Perhaps Aussie Jones is one player that can be put in that category but he's a defender. All of our midfielders can go in and win the hard ball when required and then with the possible exceptions of Powell and Thompson are just as effective waiting for the ball to come out and delivering it lace out to a forward.

We'll more than likely not have anyone gather more than 25 possessions again but have an even spread of players gathering 20 - 25 touches. In recent weeks individual opponents like Pavlich, Bell, Haselby and Woewodin have gathered more of the ball than any of our players but just haven't had the load spread amongst more of the midfielders.

The Eagles have a good midfield. As Kenny mentioned our midfield wasn't as accountable as it has been but we were able to stretch the Collingwood defence.

Sorry cant let that slide ATM our midfield is the best in the league. Kerr, Judd and cousins are brilliant and can play on par with Hayes Harvey and Black (No Doubt there). BUT its the 4/5 and 6th midfielders in LBall, Dal Santo then take your choice of Powell, Thompson or Clarke where the saints do the damage in rotation.
Youll see what Im talking about Sunday just watch if your keen.

With Black out hepls a tiny bit but we'll cover him.
Once again hope you guys play well I wanna see a great match.

Quickly who are your 4/5 and 6th midfielders?

Cmon....Heath Black? I will certainly give you Harvey and Hayes as both are very good, despite Harvs been past his best. But Heath Black?

And despite Ball and Dal Santo being young, Ill still take Fletcher and Embley as 4th and 5th midfielders.

It's taken him a while to hit his straps but he has been really good this year.

I'm not sure why you don't rate him but he's not only a very good player but with the likes of Hayes and Harvey getting tagged every week it has freed him up.

Um go watch stkilda's games this year!

Heath got 38 possies against roos
always at least 25 possies this year kicks some great goals and is a leader absolutely priceless this year.

He had a downer last year but has changed his attitude is comfortable and enjoying his footy he is a gun believe me watch him in a couple of weeks!

EMBLEY?HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

yes.

this shows us all how little you know about football. ]

ball is a quality player, equal to fletcher.

dal santo looks classy and i do rate him personally ...but embley is just as good if not better. embley takes more marks, kicks consdierably more goals, and gets the same number of possesions. go figure.

Agreed - they will be champions.
Right now they are not considerably better than Fletcher or Embley (which seems to be saints fans opinions)

For Cousins to have an influence on this game he really needs to break the tag that he will receive from Baker (Baker always limits his output)
We need to apply a lot of physical pressure this week (on Baker and the whole saints team)

So, in fact what you meants was that one game he had 35 disposals, and other than that he's never had more than 20?

I volunteer Beau Waters or Daniel Kerr to run straight through Baker :D

For some reason I have a good feeling about this game but then I look at the 2 sides and realise we'll probably get smashed.

Sorry bon, again I can't stick up for ya. Fletcher is a gun. Embley is pretty good as well, but I think its more of a role he plays for you guys that gets the stats. With all our rotations we rarely have a player get over 25 possies, I think last week our highest was 21? So when talking about St Kilda you can't rely on stats too much.
Fletcher, Judd, Kerr, Cousins, all class. They'll go all the way with the saints midfield(nothing funky). I think we'll have you covered though forward and back. Saints by 47 same as last week.

lol it seems like you were wrong about that one! :) :D

and i used to like siants fans but know i really hate them they are sooo arrogant, big-headed, cocky, conceited, loudmouth, pompous, self-applauding, and smart-alecky. Ill admit that you are the from side at the moment and sare a very good side and are due for a run at the top but honestly they sound like they have just won thier third grand final in a row... :D. The eagles will probably lose but know way are st. kila as good as some saints fans are predicting, can i just ask do you think you will win the grand final this year???
I doubt that you will simply because IMO you dont have enough experience, you have are getting very lucky at the moment ( umpiring, injuries ) and are simply not as good as you appear. You saint fans will all jump on me and tell me that st. kilda are much better than the eagles and they are at the moment yes your right. Im not saying that im saying the saints are not as good as some are suggesting.

Er. Yeah.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game this weekend- its always great to pit your team against the best going around, and I'm actually feeling pretty good about our chances- this will be the best 22 we've fielded this year by a fair way, and there's no better team to measure them against than the saints.

One thing I haven't understood about St Kilda this year (and no, I'm not trolling here, I'm actually curious) is how your midfield has been so damned effective without a dominant ruckman? Is it just down to roving the opposition's taps, or has Knobel found some way of being a gun ruckman without actually getting hitouts?

I'm expecting Coxxy to dominate the ruck, but can't help but wonder how much affect that will have on the game- I mean, your lot have beaten sides with dominant ruckmen so far this year..

Umm, I can't make much outta that? Arrogant, nope. Big headed, nope, if we've been confident can you blame us? Cocky, yeah I see that in some. Conceited, haha, nope. Loudmouth, yeah some. Pompous, not yet, hopefully never. Self applauding, there's really been no reason to do otherwise. Smart alecky, nothing wrong with that.
Yeah we don't have a lot of experience, but did the baby bombers? Luck with umpiring, don't know about that. I think they've kept up the same old crap standard as always. Luck with injuries, on first thought yes. But we've got a fantastic medical staff, and they also had gymnastic classes in pre season to learn how to land/roll safely ect. There's Harvey this week, who's ready to go but we aint risking anything. And then there's Voss who got a knee to the jaw, no luck there. Don't forget Hudghton and his shoulder. He was originally out for 4-6 weeks, ended up 8 or something. We had three player have shoulder injuries pre season. We've definately been grateful though for not many injuries, mainly due to excellent injury management.

Honestly, IMO, we'll win he GF, if we beat Brisbane :D . I honestly believe that.
And yeah, I stuffed the call on Harvey. Just proves I know jack.

Knobel hasn't been getting many hitouts. Its just the guys in the middle most of the time get the ball out. When I watch it, I'm amazed! Its almost like he ball is on a string sometimes.

I FIGURE Fletcher gets more possesions as he plays in a middle of the range team. He would not get the same numbers playing for the top team would he?

Dal is a top ten player for the top team

Knobes just gives us an honest contest every time. He loves to make contact with his opponent which makes it hard for the opposing ruckman to do anything with the tap.

Over the past season our midfield has become very adept at reading the ball off the hands of the other ruckman. I think it's down to having so many midfielders capable of rotating through the midfield and some excellent planning by Grant Thomas and Matt Rendell.

you cant compare midfield players by saying their are better or worse because because they play in the best midfield.

i think in some respects it would be harder to earn possesions in a lesser side because presumably the lesser side doesnt win often, which would mean that the midfield isnt getting enough of the footy which makes getting possesions harder than in a side that wins games consistantly so some players can be a down hill skier.

to all boastful saints fans. i know you are pumped up, I'd be if in ur position but what do you think this is? the saints board? hint, hint....

No matter how confident Saints fans may sound, they could never be as cocky as the average purple supporter is these days.I'm hoping just for a good contest tomorrow.I cant see us winning but who knows what may happen, all the pressure is on them because no-one thinks we have a shot.Go Eagles !!!!!
