Roast St Kilda in no mans land

Like I said - demonstrating you know zilch about St Kilda and possibly less about professional sport.

Once Battle signed with the Hawks he was no longer a St Kilda player so why should he attend a St Kilda function?

And just to help you out with a bit of Saints knowledge - Battle had informed his "team mates" he was staying until he decided he wasn't - so there were some issues.

No doubt we were keen to keep him but Pick 8 for a 3rd tall defender who is neither a KPP or a elite intercepting player was just as an attractive option.

As to telling players who have left for another club that its probably best not to attend the Clubs B & F - not the first and certainly won't be last time it happens. Jake Lever springs to mind.

Its a much more professional way to approach a professional sport than risk the rank amateurism of something like this.

The rapturous applause from the Tigers faithful says it all

PS - Here's the Unrestricted Free Agent rules - in case you haven't seen them.

An unrestricted free agent (UFA) in the Australian Football League (AFL) is a player who is free to negotiate with any team after their contract with their previous club ends:
  • They have played for one club for at least eight years
  • They are out of contract
  • They can automatically move to a new club of their choice

Comparing your club to 2017 Adelaide crows culture, jeez don’t aim too high 🤣

Genuine self righteous clown post.
You’ve just tried to sell me the exact same spin that phantom has, and it’s still as contradictory as ever.

We planned to dangle him(an UFA 😂).
We knew he was going to leave(yet the draft board was full of saints saying he was staying and that they’d upped their offer).
But we didn’t want him to come to the B&F because the players thought he was staying after we’d offered him more money.

Oh and here’s a clip of some other players at another B&F that somehow prove that we were right to not invite him, even though we definitely weren’t angry with him leaving.

Just a pure coincidence that the chairman decided to have a 5 minute sook about how unfair the competition is, and how he’s not going to take it anymore….but definitely weren’t angry with Battle leaving.

**** you love to make shit up.

From all accounts battle said to players he was staying.

We didn’t know he was going until post year (no one ever said we did) we just planned on getting the best return if he did leave.

It’s not that ****ing complicated, we planned for both contingencies. Stay, great, leave, great. We played both sides and got great compo for him leaving (compo that everyone else in the comp was ****ing howling about) partially because our savvy president put some additional pressure on the afl. Like good presidents do.

We didn’t invite him to the bnf for a host of reasons being offended he left was about 5% of it.

No wonder you can’t see reason you just make shit up that no one has said.

Interesting that a thread this time last year about Hawthorn was very similar with Hawk fans bemoaning the lack of awareness of where there club was in its rebuild and others dismissing their immediate future.
I'm sure even Strapping Young Lad would see the similarities with this thread
Not exactly Gav, this time last year that thread was full of a couple of North, Bomber and Blues fans telling us that we were delusional to expect anything more than 4-6 wins because we’d go backwards, one of them even bet their account - and lost it - that Hawks wouldn’t win 7 games.

No one is in here saying Saints can’t make finals, or that they can’t win X amount of games. People are either agreeing or arguing that they’re stuck in no man’s land and either do or don’t have enough talent from the draft to challenge for a flag.

So our difference is that we have hawks, lions and blues supporters.

Suppose you finally got one fact right. Kudos.

What a load of crap. You can’t even remember what you’ve written now.

You posted that Saints “identified him” as the player they would “dangle”, that Saints deliberately didn’t make another offer to him because you were wanting him to look at other clubs.

Then your club uninvited him from the B&F despite apparently always playing both sides and the players got upset with him leaving.
I smell a lot of bullshit.

Just a coincidence that your “Savvy President” which is more spin, had a sook about how hard it is to compete and that they’re not going to take to anymore on the same night Battle was told to stay home.

Stop responding to me with your Saints fantasy.

How does any of this have anything to do with what I posted?

You said we all knew he was going, no one said that, you said we were happy he left, no one said that.

Whatever narrative you’ve painted in your own mind about what the saints did and what saints posters have said about it here just isn’t based in any reality we’re living in.

It’s a really bizarre diatribe you’re running here.

lol, why? I’m 11 to 0 rounds up and feeling fresh as a daisy.

It’s funny watching you talk utter shit and get pasted over and over.
More utter fantasy.

Are you simple?

You’ve run with this entire narrative that the Saints were making this big brain move to offer this unrestricted free agent to the market… that you were playing both sides… happy for him to go or happy for him to stay… only problem being that when he said he was going your club told him not to go to the B&F.

Now I probably have to explain this to you really slowly… maybe you can start to contemplate that a club that was so OK with either Battle going or Battle staying doesn’t then renege on his invite to the B&F and have their president go on a diatribe about how unfair the AFL is if they were always, so totally OK with the outcome.

But sure keep spinning away and pretending like you’re doing well with this plainly foolish argument.

Really fixated on this bnf thing at the complete dismissal of all the other evidence proving the point.

I’ll explain this to you simply.

The “club” being the coaches and list management were fine with him leaving provided we got the compo we wanted (which at bnf time was absolutely not confirmed) but also want to set standard of “you’re a saint or you’re not” (something I still don’t agree with).

The players were from all accounts a bit pissed because he told them he was staying, they likely didn’t really want him there.

The president’s speech to anyone with even low double digit iq was very obviously a pointed effort to influence, in whatever way he could the compo we’d get. You reckon a president is going to waste time potting a player who left at our bnf? Seems like something a child would do, not a club president.

We likely weren’t thrilled he left without pushing you to up your offer because we were a bit in limbo about the compo (and if we didn’t get band 1 it would have been a disaster).

I have never said it was a genius move, in fact it was pretty sloppily handled, I said it was shrewd because the plan was pretty good, we just fumbled it a bit. Worked out but.

St Kilda had Battle.

Hawthorn wanted Battle.

St Kilda would have been happy to keep Battle but also want early draft picks.

Hawthorn have Battle and are happy to have him.

St Kilda received a 1st round compensation pick and are very happy.

The end.
Pure saints spin apparently.

Max King wouldn't be in the top 5 young key talls in the game let alone the most talented since Curnow. Darcy, Amiss, Treacy, Naughton, Cadman, Walter... King is an absolute headcase and the Saints play better without him.

Macrae doesn't shift the needle whatsoever in your midfield. Bottom 4 in the AFL for quality and heavily carried by Marshall.

Saints list is simply put, B grade at best.
Imagine losing to a 'B' grade list in a must win game, yikes

But there are similarities all the same

Dude, you defeated Swans in the same period when they won 1 game from 6 attempts, and that 1 win was against the Roos. They were quite clearly in a form slump.
Every man and their dog could see Carlton were limping to the line when you defeated them.

You don't need to trade Sharman for Pick 2....Even a 2nd or 3rd rounder can be useful.

I doubt many would neutrals would take Philippou ahead of Sheezel, Ashcroft, Cadman, Wardlaw, Humphrie or even Weddle. Some may, but I bet a whole heap wouldn't, which is why it would be debatable.

Wilson similarly, I'm not sure many are taking him ahead of Reid, Walter, Caddy, McKercher, Watson for a start and even Windsor, Rogers and Sanders would be arguable.

I mean, if you want to ignore everything I have articulated and just say that I think you should tank, sure, be lazy.
Just happen to not mention Cam Mckenzie who you picked in front of Philipou ahahahah
