Thomas can take a week with an early plea. He is lucky to only get 2 for that. He is the sort of player most fathers would be ashamed of, sort of an anti-Lenny Hayes, he plays for free kicks, fakes injuries and now targets the opponents best player's head.

Not sure how we have sold the farm.

Unless you mean by recruiting talented free agents for free and average remuneration.
No I mean doing what St Kilda did - recruiting mature players for specific roles to get them into the GF
The only problem with that is when those players retire / leave you will have a number of recruits to replace them that are not quite good enough / havent played enough and it will take time and several drafts to get back to where you were.

If it pays off and you snag a flag - its a price you are more than willing to pay, if it doesn't...

Getting back to Paddy or Membrey.. I think Paddy just needs to do a whole lot more and get his body into better shape, and, play some pretty hot footy in the VFL, as Skunk is a lot more mobile and seems to use his body well.
I'm thinking maybe Bruce could go down back for a spell??

Fair enough.

I wouldn't really call it selling the farm though.

Dont think VFL would hurt him but won't fix his fitness like most of our young players he needs another preseason.
They can all fit but I think Richo will see how Members goes for the next couple weeks by himself before trying 2 inexperienced players deep in the forwardline so heres hoping he kicks another couple bags and we can have our forward line set.

Thomas out and maybe perhaps the one and only Ray Farren in...he might hit some Saints jumpers this time. Shouldn't say that I do like the FRay.

Seriously though Thomas suspension means Geary can shift on to Higgins and hopefully limit his output. That would be a great start. Then if Ross can curtail Ziebell, and Hickey split the difference with Goldy we should be able to turn this into a real brawl in the guts. I would expect Jacobs or Gibson will go to Savage and try and limit our run out of defense, so we are going to have to provide some good blocks for him and Newnes, Webster and Montagna will have to take on more load.

I would challenge the team to kick a winning score. Don't go into your shell about Waite. Let him have his 7 let's just kick 20 again!

I can't see any changes for mind, unless we want another big body down back. Would love to see Gresh run with Boomer for a stint, and maybe Billings on Dal. If we get the jump on North we might be a little hard to peg back this time.

The cycle this year has been loss with upside, embarrassing let down, winning hands and heels. So this week we're due for our honourable loss before getting spanked in the west and then beating Essendon by 134,489 points.

I'd like to see Goddard in the next two weeks at least. If he's been named as an emergency then he's ready to play ones and the club is saying so. The only other player I'd be considering to bring in is Lonie. If Roberton is right he can have a run at Sandy for a week.

I think Gresham and Minchington are the possible outs, but I'd like to see changes kept to a minimum.

What good would it do for Gresham to only play 1 game before going back to the vfl?

Thomas is a grub, he played for a free after belting young Hunter. As far as acting goes Lindsay Lohan > Lindsay Lowact.

Bruce would be one of the first picked.

Absolutely critical to the team

Paddy will be back up soon & playing alongside Skunk & Brucey. Roo moves back up onto a wing & helps out our undersized defence when needed.

Here is an interesting fact. Joey is ranked 11th in the league for effective possessions per game this year, Savage is ranked 13th (despite being 55th for overall disposals per game!), Newnes is at 22, Ross is equal-23rd, Steven is at equal-33 and Armo is at 49.

So we have 2 of the top 13, 4 of the top 28, 5 of the top 37 and 6 of the top 50.

That is all.

That's a bad idea IMO. Bruce may be the best out of the 3, I wouldnt be waisting any games on him down back where he was fairly average anyway.

His body work was fantastic on the weekend. He ended up not quite holding onto 3 marks right in front of goal after working around his opponent. He would have had 6 goals I f he had of held onto them. He's not far off a big bag IMO.

Agreed. Don't **** with our structures - especially when they are working.

I think just stick with our slightly shorter talls in defence and make it a shootout. There will be the odd mark and the odd spoil.

this game is absolutely winnable. But it requires some excellent tactics and coaching. I trust Richo on both counts.

That is not all.

The top four according to disposal efficiency is:

1. Bow-wows
2. GWPlastic
3. Mighty Saints
4. Puddy-tats

We went from 18th before the game against Melbourne to 11th on disposal efficiency on inside 50's.

Any forward goes back it's Rooey, as he's already spending time up the ground, he reads the ball flight as well as anyone, has a tank to go both ways and burst speed as a forward to effectively close on burst speeding forwards with a leap to boot to match and at least break even with them. Because you have Bruce as structural FF and Members as the true CHF being a leading forward, and in a game where you go central it's bringing back true CHF instead of leaving it blank to float in for the right angled pinpoint & counter punch.

Of course, we were in the Hawk game and won last week based on what we did, not what they did, we rolled with it and amended during the game, but we set up how we wanted to play and attempted to impose that in instances, if we play to Norths strength and try and limit them, we'll run out losers by 6+ goals as they will simply power through it and find a way, as the Hawks did, except North are in much better form.

Im not against Roo playing CHB in the odd game when we're up against a tall forward line (until Jcarlisle comes back/goddard is ready). He's a champion CHF we all know that, but Letting the Paddy, Bruce, Skunk forward line develop synergy is very important, and I think he could put in a match winning performance down there this weekend.

I know it's a little silly but we need someone to play on wait/petrie and I wanna see Paddy!

hypothetical,

Roo plays forward kicks 3, waite kicks 5 at the other end - minus 2 goals all up

Paddy plays forward and kicks two, roo plays back on waite and waite kicks 2 - even goal difference

Paddy gets more experience, forward line develops synergy, Roo gets three votes from CHB and proves he can STILL do it all :)

The more I think about this game I reckon we are in with a big show. Both back lines have experienced players that aren't over possessed with speed, so big chance a few goals will be kicked. Both have good to great forward lines & both teams have a great ruckman. So IMO reckon this game is going to be won in the midfield & if we put in the same effort as last week, can't see why we won't get over the line. Bring 'em on. :thumbsu:

Has Riewoldt been playing predominantly forward this season or has he been up the ground a bit more? He seems to be playing fantastic footy, which is absolutely no surprise from him, and I'm concerned about who we would have on him if he's pushing right up the ground then pushing hard back into the forward 50. I genuinely don't think we would have anyone that could run with him and match his aerial prowess if that is the case. Whereas if he's spending a majority of his time in the forward line I would be more confident of limiting his output.

On the weekend he played the whole game forward, but prior to that he had been playing mostly on the wing, with rests forward.

He dropped a few kg's over the summer and got even fitter than ever (more running and training in the midfield group, etc), so he's certainly as capable as ever of running someone ragged, whether playing on the wing, or up forward and he seems as quick as ever, like Boomer.

He also went behind the ball when needed. Basically he plays good everywhere.

His not a stay at home fwd anymore, he'll be on back flank then push fwd on the rebound. I dont think any of your defenders are capable to go with him.

If a player hasn't done enough they go back. I think Jade got 8 possessions.

I don't understand your logic that playing 1 game even if not up to standard has no benefit and therefor warrants another. I don't get gifting players games if they haven't done enough. Players who don't produce can develop in the VFL. AFL is for players who can and are producing not players who have potential.
