Agreed

For real? Prior to Fly coming on board we were the team that gave away red time goals, lost close games, and lost Grand Finals.

If we’re clutch now (and I think we are) it’s because Fly has created that.

Naicos will be a great player but way underselling Fly and co there IMO.

I love our players, I truly do.

I reckon our players are awesome.

But know in those moments when I reckon our players are the best in the comp that (1) I know it’s Fly and Co who have managed to wring the very best out of them, and (2) I’m wearing my black and white glasses.

Despite Fly having a very different coaching style to what Buckley had, the players have embraced it. I think Fly has a style that any player can embrace - as we’ve seen with Markov as an example

To all you have said I point you to 2018. We were one kick, and likely with better luck with Moore and Elliott both fit, we are premiers then. Would Elliott have been clutch back then? Probably.

I do agree that he has brought in an uncanny belief and ability to win close games.

My opinion is this team is a lot more talented than the team who almost snagged one in 2018 and our defensive talent is almost the best in the league.

I think you may be confusing list, with list profile as in a few years guys like Howe, Sidebottom, Pendles and even Mihocek may be coming to an end, but they are still there now and exceptional AFL footballers.

Wait until they’ve set their cheese boards up perfectly then kick the campaigners flying everywhere. Hit them where it hurts
We could take a whole bunch of premiership bumper stickers and put them on the range rovers in the car park

You don’t seem to understand my point?

Fact: we scraped through 3 finals to win the Premiership.

You seem to think that’s because we’ve got a great list. And if you want to think that then that’s totally cool.

But I respectfully disagree, I reckon it’s because we have the best coaching panel - by a long way.

We can’t both be right - because if we did have the best list AND the best coaching panel, we wouldn’t be winning our finals by 7 points, 1 point, and 4 points. We wouldn’t be beating the SA teams by 1 or 2 points. We’d be blowing the opposition off the park. And we’re not.
To be fair we finished with the best percentage and we beat Port and GC by 12 plus goals. Plenty of premiers have won close prelims and grand finals. We have been in the top echelon for two years so I think we can class ourselves a top side with a very good list.

Steven May is 0-2 in bar fights with teammates in his career

Haven't Melbourne gone out in straight sets twice in a row ? Forget Collingwood , when it counts Melbourne aren't smashing anyone .
And they never have. Kings of wilting when it counts

From Reddit:

I was watching the club Bnf Lifestream and was taken aback by Steven May’s drunken slurry of words formed after his 5th place achievement. Much like Ed Langdon previous comments on Collingwood as a “one trick pony”, May exclaimed that “Melbourne is so much better than Collingwood” and that we “should have smoked them”. Considering how Langdon comments ended, we can expect a big game for queens birthday.

Jakey Melksham got it right
How delusional. Melbourne are not better than Collingwood.

Melbourne aren’t even better than Carlton.

You’ve already said this but it does not provide an answer- so I refer you SR’s post #69 above who outlines why you’re way off the mark saying “our list is a long way from the best list”.

You’d think if that were the case they’d have beaten us more than once from their last five cracks at it.

Two of those sides that you’ve cherry picked a close win against we also blitzed by 10+ goals in our other meeting. Our record against Adelaide still reads better than our performances against Melbourne (net +1 across two games) and Brisbane in 2010. Were our coaches trying to lose when we couldn’t get over Brisbane in our first two games this season? You can’t have it all ways. We finished top six three of four years before Fly took over.

It's clear that we weren't a 17th list in 2021, both by what came before and after. The reasons for a down year are obvious, plus look at some of the players we fielded that year, they weren't ready or past it or just not good. A sample: Poulter (11), C.Brown (15), Macrae (9), Biancoe (12), Madgen (19), Mayne (17), T.Brown (7), Keane (4), Wilson (4), Ruscoe (9), Randall (5), J.Thomas (20).

Aside from injuries and playing the youth as above, the point that we're "basically the same side" as 2021 is also wrong. 3 of the top 5 in the Norm Smith were not at the club in 2021. One of those would have won most every individual award had he not been injured. We also filled a KPF hole with McStay. So yes, there are significant differences in personnel.

Our list is good. One of the best. Our coaches are also good, some of the best. You need both to win a Premiership, having one side of that coin doesn't get it done.
