I don't know what was 'all-in' about our trade period.

We just made rational value improvements to our list with some opportunities that came up. While retaining both our high value selections, and adding an extra 1st for Stephens.

Which is what every team tries to do every year.

Richmond went all-in when they traded out of two drafts for Taranto and Hopper.

Eh, some mature pieces to bolt on for a flag tilt was what the list required most could see that

Using HHK as some smoking gun and saying that he wouldn't be delisted otherwise is a bit of a stretch. We just drafted a project ruck with our first and to suggest Horse has pressed some retirement button and is chopping up the list seems a bit sensational. He may retire anyway but connecting all those dots incorrectly isn't the proof
All coaches have a use-by date. The amazing thing is that Longmire hasn't reached his yet.

Haha. Well he is entitled to think whatever he wants about our club, but I do think he is wrong to say we are all-in.

There is no reason why if it doesn't happen this year, that we can't continue to improve next year.
The article is rubbish but it does pose the question how long can you keep improving before you miss your opportunity ? We've been on this rebuild / improvement curb for some time now. If it is not this year or at the very least next year we are a serious contender then we are treading water until the tide finally washes over us. My opinion is it is just about time.

I agree that it is time to go now.

But I also think if we were to come up short, we should be better again next year.

We seemed to do everything we possibly could to get better in the offseason, but we are far from all-in as the article claims.

I don't often look at The Roar but I think it is a fantastic concept: a platform for anyone to write articles on. True enough the quality is often poor, and I don't agree with the analysis in this article - particularly with the idea that we have gone "all in" chasing a flag. However, the democratisation and competition The Roar can offer other media outlets (many of which aren't that great either) is very worthy in my opinion.

It's so hard to put yourself out there writing articles, I used to do it years ago and after some of my mates gave me a tonne of shit I stopped.

Article in the Hun on Greene & Heeney, its an interview with Greene but its a good call out because these two are the AFL name everyone recognises - getting them to run a few camps together is a great idea.

“I just want more kids to play footy,” Greene told incoming AFL CEO Andrew Dillon and his executive team at the start of last year.

And so started a chain of events that saw 300 kids in Sydney across two days in October take part in the inaugural 5th Quarter Camp at the Greater Western Sydney Giants facility.

Greene has teamed up with Sydney Swans poster boy Isaac Heeney as the faces of the junior camps, which are spreading the AFL word far and wide throughout NSW.

The next camp is in Canberra at Ainslie Football Club on January 18, with another planned for the school holidays back in Sydney in April. 5th Quarter Camps, Canberra, Thursday January 18. Register at 5thquartercamps.com.au

“ Poster Boy Heeney “ SMH 🙄 Has the ability to be a poster boy but would prefer
“ Sydney Champion Heeney “ which he also has the ability to be. It’s time for Poster Boy to live up to his ability rather than his looks.

Heeney and Gulden are our top 2 players. Love to see it all come together for him in an injury free full season. He’s a pretty down to earth guy, poster boy stuff is a media label and not his doing. Hope you judge all our players the same way you do Heeney.

All in strategy. What a joke.
I will reveal the big joke of this article. It assumes because we brought in 4 players in the trade period that we are sacrificing our future....rather than going just to the draft. We did both. And may I add at minimal cost to out draft picks.

We have been going to the draft for years. We have a long list of draftees and rookies still on our list who are developing.
I will exclude what I consider to be our best 23.
This is our future pipeline of players not considered best 23.
Defence
Vickery-19-Medium-0 games
Edwards-21-KPD-0 games
Arnold-25-KPD-0 games
Magor-20-Medium-0 games
Snell-18-KPD-0 games

Midfield
Jordon-23-mid-65
Sheldrick-20-mid-9
Roberts-20-mid-7
Corey Warner-20-mid-3
Mitchell-19-mid-0
Cleary-18-mid-0
Kirk-18-mid-0

Ruck
Ladhams-26-ruck-52
McAndrew-24-ruck-2
Green-18-ruck-0

Forwards
Buller-23-KPF-1
Konstanty-19-small fwd-0

The ages of the above players are relatively young. We already have a pipeline.

We have been going to the draft for years. We have a midfield that is except for 3 players, 23 years old or younger. And we made a grand final 2 years ago with this midfield.
This year we added Adams and Jordon(for free) to bolster the midfield.

We snagged Grundy, arguably the 2nd best ruck behind Gawn for a future 2nd.
We brought in an experienced KPD in Hamling (for free).

So bringing in 4 experienced players Jordon(free), Hamling(free), Adams(2nd) and Grundy(future 2nd) is going all in.

We also drafted the best young ruck IMO. A midfielder(Cleary) that Collingwood bid on with its first pick, another KPD in Snell and and rookied in Kirk. Hardly going all in for the now.

The article is a joke.
