Our club in the Media

360 feels like a tribute to the lions and bulldogs tonight.

Drunk Robbo openly barracking for Josh Dunkley to his face.

Really ordinary GF edition of 360…….unsure if we are playing or not.

Our decision not to send a player which I don't mind. Hayward spoke about it earlier in the week, no need to get sucked into the media duties too much. Naturally they'll talk more Lions with Dunkley there, but yeah would have been good to balance out Lynch with Healy or something.

To be fair, there were no Swans on the show.

I liked Adam Simpson and Jack Riewoldt on it.
Given it’s the last one, would have though something with a bit of balance may have been more appropriate.

Front Bar very funny tonight with wonderboy Harley being interviewed and they then surprised him with Nic Nat, and then a few mins later, out comes Cousins… probably 3 of the best no.9’s you can ever get together.

I got emotional watching this. I’m not sure I’ve ever wanted us to win a flag so badly as this year, just as many of us do I’m sure.

It’s felt like our year for a very long time. Unfortunately that doesn’t give us a right to win it, we have to earn that on Saturday.

Getting teary eyed from a short hype video on a Thursday morning (in the US) isn’t what I was expecting.

I think that McGuire interview with Heeney you can tell the difference between a young player and a mature player. Before now Isaac has always been non-confrontational and skipped over it when dealing with panels etc. This time he took a bit more time to lay out the how and the why it was still so close he could have chosen NRL.

I think we need to understand that younger players are generally not so confident or articulate enough to be expansive in their interactions with the media but that changes as they grow older & 'into their boots' so to speak.
There was an article about the interview with the headline something like "Get over it Ed!". I thought it was Heeney that said it to McGuire and I was shocked. It was actually Damien Barrett that said it.

Of course McGuire couldn't resist bringing up COLA again . I'm confident that his last word on this earth will be COLA.

27SEP24: Swans Daily Media New
One last day before the Big Dance.

A very quick cursory check of the incredibly difficult to find information source Wikipedia shows you that the following 21st century grand finalists trailed at QT before getting a result:

  • Brisbane in 2002
  • Hawthorn in 2008
  • Geelong in 2009 (a game Montagna literally played in)
  • St. Kilda in 2010 draw (a game Montagna literally played in)
  • Sydney in 2012 (as has been extensively covered)
  • Richmond in 2017
  • West Coast in 2018 (the allegedly one side to get a result after trailing at QT)
  • Richmond in 2020
That makes it 8/25 (accounting for the replay) who have trailed at QT before getting a result (including St. Kilda getting a draw).

tl;dr - Montagna talking out his arse.

For the record, only the Swans in 2012 and the Eagles in 2018 trailed by any significant margin (19 and 17 points respectively). The rest mostly trailed by under a goal.
Okay, so confirmed that Montagna is an idiot.

Perhaps he heard a 3/4 time stat and thought it was 1/4 time?

Wasn’t Hodgey’s tip for the Lions in the channel 7 predictions? lol

Reflecting on Montagna’s observations:

1. I think it is a weak point to highlight that Brisbane’s asset is the ability to score quickly. This is a strength of both teams - which is what makes this game so hard to predict.

2. On Cam Rainer being a big threat, this is certainly so. I’m not sure who goes to him, but I think a team effort to get under his skin could be effective - e.g. get Papley to run at him with a post goal special, etc. A lot of people are looking towards Rainer and I reckon he could crack under the pressure. If we could get both Rainer and Zorko to lose their cool, I reckon that’s the ball game. So big job for JJ as well. Give him some angry pills.

3. Very interesting that Brisbane is weak at defending post lost stoppages. If we can get on top early, we could really get their mids in a defensive mindset. Our mids need to go very hard and very aggressive from the get go. And then let Fort and his mids know they are letting their team down.

I think a lot of the “what will give Brisbane the edge” talking points are dumb because they apply equally to both sides.

Recent GF heartache? Tick

. Ability to score quickly? Tick.

Recent experience of throwing everything to the wind to overcome a deficit? Tick. (Us against the Pies and in the Giants final.)

Ability to play controlled, uncontested mark style or kamikaze play on style? Tick.

Older players running out of time to win a flag? And youthful exuberance? Tick, tick.

I don’t actually think he did. I think this entire conversation is based on someone who misheard. I went back and watched the clip and he does refer to 3/4 time.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, well not that shocked.
