Think Danger had the best idea.

Expansion draft.
Tassie can take up to 2 players off every afl list. Teams get FA compo level picks in return. Then normal draft hand beyond that.

1 compromised draft. Then Tassie can get assistance picks like other struggling clubs that have a sook if they are bad in 2 years time

They just won't get enough good players from established clubs.

Good in theory, but won't work in practice.

It is like saying North Melbourne should be able to use their salary cap space, to get 3 or 4 free agents and move up the ladder quickly. It is simply too hard to get free agency targets, and Tasmania won't find it any easier.

Even Crows struggle badly to get players to come to Adelaide.

Probably depends on how many players each team is able to 'protect' from selection.

There are plenty of decent players on lists that would be considered around the 30th best for their club, and my guess is they'd be unprotected.

You're not going to see a dominant expansion side in year 1 but you could definitely see a competitive one.

It is more an issue of attracting talent.

I think that 95 percent of players would stay where they are or move home rather than move to Tassie.

All they can offer is money or role. At best they will finish 12th to 14th first year

Every club goes through such issues. It's not a huge concern IMO.

These are not insignificant offerings, even more so if the list is built in such a way that it can be competitive from the get go.

I am talking about the last 3 years.

Oh…in which case I’m not sure what the comparison is.

All teams go through phases, Crows are not immune from this, nor are the big Victorian clubs.

I’m expecting Tasmania to be no different. Some won’t want to go there, others will, but as always the key will be stability.

It is hard to get people to move to
1. Small teams.
2. Bad teams
3. Teams away from Vic.

Tas are all 3.

It has its challenges, and Tasmania will be uniquely challenged in that regard. There’s no doubt about that.

Tasmania aren’t a team right now, so they’re not a bad team. There will be certain benefits to joining from the outset, some will find it an attractive proposition, others may not.

They have good operators in charge so I’m optimistic that they’ll be able to overcome.

An expansion draft has nothing to do with whether or not individual players want to go to Tasmania.

Others were saying they could just pinch players from other teams, and didn't really need any extra assistance.

I said that wouldn't work, as enough players wouldn't want to join them.

No matter which way you approach it, they need lots of draft picks early to be competitive in the first 5 years.

That's the whole point of it. It isn't another version of free agency. And it would remove the need to stuff the National Draft for years.

They need draft picks to be competitive/ good in years 3,4,5. First two years ( if not 3 or 4) team success depends on existing AFL players.

Depends if they can land any big fish there obviously going to have a lot of salary to throw around McKercher will be the top of there list be interesting if they can land him and a couple of other elite young players about to enter there primes

Alex Pearce for captain or will he be too old?
Edit: Will be 32. You might get 2 years out of him.....maybe.
