Agree. The media sharks are circling but that's no reason to throw the toys out of the cot. They never give us credit when we're doing well. They stick the boots in when we're not. A paid mark here, an opportunity taken there and we could be 2 -0. We're not. Let the season play out then make the decisions required.
The sad reality is that we didn't convert our opportunities into results but when you look at the opportunities generated it's absolutely believable that 2 and 0 was totally possible. I'm as devastated as anyone about our results but if we can keep generating the stats that we have I can't believe that the results won't come soon enough. I take Faz as my example of choice. When did we last see him miss so many opportunities in one game? To me that's just a matter of time. Add the fact that we still have some class players to return and I am a long way off losing hope just yet.

We've been a young team for 12 years

This is what annoyed me about Nathan Browns comments. Media was saying how we were too young last year and needed to bring in some older guys. So we did that. Then Brown says on the weekend that we should've went to the draft. Can't have it both ways Brown.

Wow... at the time when the best and in fact only thing you can say in Bucks' defence is give it few more weeks some people actually see signs???
Our defence is shaping up to be one of the worst in the league, our mids' possessions to impact ratio still isn't what it should be and they're still being accused of one way running, our delivery into the forward 50 is still haphazard, we look to have made a massive blunder thinking Darcy can be the focal point of the attack at such early age, we still get scored easily against over the top and cost to cost, our players are struggling to implement the zone and according to Bucks himself are going against instructions....
I'm guessing when we go down in a scrap against the Sydney side missing a third of their best 22 the same people will still see the signs.

ps. It's about time Gimpy got his own random thoughts thread, he deserves it more than Dave.

We are a very easy target at the moment. When you look at it:

  1. it looks like we put him in the role out of fear he would go elsewhere;
  2. he replaced a premiership winning coach who didn't want to go, and who had just coached us through the most dominant two year period in 50 odd years;
  3. great players, but slightly loose cannons, were moved on, promoting the "robotic" view of Buckley;
  4. we have gone backwards each year he has coached;
  5. he said last year he doesn't expect to survive if we don't make finals in 2017;
  6. in the off season we made some very strange recruiting decisions, which are readily converted into a "Buckley getting desperate to hold his job" line; and
  7. we are the largest, and most hated, sporting club in Australia.
All these factors mean Buckley will be the subject of scrutiny every week, including the weeks we win. The pressure will rise each week, and it will test his control not to go all Leppitsch on the media. Players will be asked every week whether they support the coach. A new Darren Jolly or David Cloke will come out to criticise the way he coaches, manages people etc etc. Each week a media commentator will criticise us for something that they previously praised us for, or praise us for something that they previously criticised us for.

This is your life, 2017 Collingwood supporter.

I agree that all the points you have raised are valid and concerning. We can only hope that over the next few weeks we do indeed see improvement, as it is unlikely the coach will be removed before the bye.
As for The Gimp, it would be great if he had his own random thoughts thread as it would improve the other threads no end.

If we beat Sydney at the SCG then one would assume the performance of the team is improved on the last two weeks. Wouldn't you agree?

Sydney isn't in crash hot form at the moment.
If we play like we did vs Richmond and win then it is still a worry because it addresses little.

If we play closer to the mark as we did the Bulldogs it will be more encouraging- yet still there were elements to that game that still remain scarred since Bucks arrived at the club

I'm not sure how I feel about the things I've read in this article

"He's not just worried about the footy side of things. He wants to know you as a person and who you are outside of footy," Hoskin-Elliott told AFL Media.

"I get along really well with him.

"Most of the boys are exactly like me, they get along really well with Bucks.

"He cares for us as people as well as footballers. He's a real caring bloke."

So if we take Will at his word, combined with what Steele said last year when he let it slip that Bucks is maybe not harsh enough on them, does that not highlight that he really can't coach? His players like him and he's good to them, but we still suck.

Either that, or by not being harsh enough, they're not fearful for their spot in the team?

"There's more of a focus on expression within your own game (at Collingwood), than just playing as a team," he said.

"(Buckley) likes you to show how you play football. If you can get the ball and run and kick goals, you do that.

"If you like to go back and take some marks, like Jeremy Howe, back yourself.

"He shows faith in the boys with what they do."

So the players aren't listening to Bucks? I mean, if you combine the above with this, are the players just doing whatever the hell they want with no fear of repercussions?

Or..as I alluded to earlier...good coaches know that they're only as good as they're players. Swan Mckay reckons Parkin was full of rubbish and that the players coached themselves to 4 flags under 4 different coaches.
Ultimately, a coach can only prepare a team - you play to your strengths, cross your fingers and pray.

But it still falls back on Bucks because this is now 100% his team and has been for at least 2 seasons.

Can't disagree with these comments except to say that we could improve, picking up an extra couple of wins over last year, without making finals. What happens if we pick up eleven wins this season, but aren't good enough to get into the final eight. Does the coach walk or stay?
Stay

Are you sure about that
Have mercy on me who doubts what he is sure of
