Reckon Laird's are more helicopters, whereas Hately's just float and a strong wind could blow it away.Laird's made a pretty decent career from kicking floaters

To be fair you might have a pointCrazy that we're even suggesting putting a line through a 21yr old Hately coming off an injury interrupted season and one intra club trial game
Was probably next on the list, with Hamill.I would add Murray to the emerging players list. I love the way he is so intense at training and his attack on the ball, hates to lose.
Looks like we have found our new backline ‘bull.’
IMO he will become one of Hamish’s best smokey recruits - seemingly plucked from nowhere.
Hope I’m not getting ahead of myself…

Actually it was me who was wrong using that term. Should have just used the term interesting rather then poignant.Sorry maybe I dont understand the meaning of poignant. Thought the Hately comment is the only poignant thing in this post. I don't rate him, everyone's got an opinion.
Watch him continually turn the ball over under pressure at training, got nothing to do with your groin. Maybe he's out of touch but I saw alot of that last year in SANFL.
Everything else you said was backing up what I said?

Key indicator is the hair cut or facial hair. Mo-hawk he's going to be absolutely midfield beast, curly moustache probably going to get delist after 3 seasons. That's more info than we usually go on to be fair

Sorry that's ment to say "not" under pressure.
Maybe it's just a patch he's going through and he'll turn out like Josh Kennedy (swan's)

Again, "far more"?Maybe not as explosive as the other 5. Far more agile and quick than Rowe (and still plenty of question marks whether Stengle can make it).
You do realise Matty was mentoring Schoenberg last year while not playing? So glad to hear Pedlar is out there and involved - he's obviously progressing OK (I assume he's not at full training yet, but was worried he was still in cottonwool). Great news.
Was interesting Matty Crouch single out Harry in a recent interview. Reckons he's flying this year and is really looking forward to playing along side him.
He's the 190+cm, SA born, first round draft pick, big bodied mid this board has been crying out for! Everything else is irrelevant. There are certainly many inside mids who had/have successful careers, even to the point they've won brownlows or been key contributors in premierships who suffered from that issue.
It's not going to harm Hately if he can find something else to differentiate, however I don't know if he is able to.
Hately has never had a penetrating kick even before his groins, played his best footy as a junior inside the contest dishing off to the outside runners.Reckon Laird's are more helicopters, whereas Hately's just float and a strong wind could blow it away.

Nope that is a big stretch.
Bruest is 11cm taller than Rowe, the fact that he still might be slower probably isn't a great look for his physical attributes.Unlike you I saw enough last year, his 1st year in the AFL system to think he has a better than average chance to make it as small forward, maybe not first choice but he showed enough to suggest he's a very handy player to have on a team's roster. Wouldn't think he's significantly slower than Luke Breust, Tom Papley would never have played AFL if Kinnear Beatson had placed speed and stamina above footy smarts after he tested extremely poorly at the Combine.
You need to have an open mind...and I was against drafting him but I've seen enough to suggest he's a chance after only one pre-season.
Well he's not going to get pushed around. Lets just hope he can play!View attachment 1321125How is this the body of a first year player?
Impressive!
Who is Breust? So you think Breust's height is his number one assett and not his footy smarts?
And I might add Rowe's agility and evasion are right up there with the best small forwards playing the game.
We were James Rowe...Oh I thought we were talking about one of our players
Since you brought up kicking skills, I think laird is a bit harshly done by on this board. Not dangerous but he's solid.Hately has never had a penetrating kick even before his groins, played his best footy as a junior inside the contest dishing off to the outside runners.

As long as you're not a Key Forward about to get destroyed sitting under one of his helicopter punts.Jones a Smith replacement... Hadn't thought of that

Not having a crack. Just genuinely curious.
Its hard not to love the kid because of his enthusiasm, the family history. I would love to see him succeed.
Its extremely rare to see players under 175cm succeed in the modern AFL without an outstanding physical attribute . All of the 6 players in the AFL that are shorter than him have explosive pace (Caleb Daniel/Brent Daniels/Kosi Pickett/Tipungwuti/Joel Western/Stengle).
Just screams Ian Callinan to me. A guy who have a great season in a stacked forward line, but needs everything to go right to succeed.
