Gollant gets to the right positions, sometimes even marks it when he's out of position, but unfortunately his kicking needs a fair bit of work.

Yeah his rather wonky kicking action is going to be the biggest hill he has to climb to reach a career

So quick Notes today. Didn't stay for long, had a pretty average view. Think the best position is over near the nursing home.

Seed and Murphy still on the side lines
Not 100% confident but I didn't see Smith out there.

Match sim with a twist today, looked like focusing on ball movement. Movement from kick ins, movement from rebounding after losing possession. Trainer would kick the ball a random direction.

Great news Fisher out there for the second half.

Battle for seeds position on the wing.
Milera vs Sholl

Milera did a few nice things and drifted fwd at one point and score a goal.

Mchenry
Couldn't place where they were playing mchenry, but he was close on to the midfield on ball ups.
He was everywhere, definitely a standout to me, incepted few kicks, set up few playes that lead to goals.

Keays
Continue on from last week, looks in good nick. Few fwd f50 tackles. Few pot shots from long range. Caught one that went in.

Schoenberg
Productive again, looks like there trying to us his kick.

Berry vs Laird in midfield
Like to see Berry being played in the midfield, looks like he is our like for like with Laird. Will slot in if Laird goes down.

Pedlar
Moving well just trying to do a little to much, got caught holding the ball, and took a long range shot that missed. Definitely worth getting excited about. Still feel like the Keays vs Pedlar battle.

Jones
Looks like there trying to make Jones take the in board kick. Hit hit 2 out 3 that I saw beautiful. He's growing as a player. His defensive game looks like its taken a step fwd. Catching players in tackles he probably should be. Closing speed is an asset back there.

Frampton
There's a player there, and he's a got an Elite field kick. Forget fwd Frampton and judge him on his out put as a defender from now on.

McAdam
Moving well, field kicking much better this year, pressure tackles in fwd 50. Looks fit!

Rowe
Getting to the right places at the right time, being evasive, but not finishing well.

Thilthorpe
Aggressive tackling, following up after a marking contest is fantastic. Stood out as a performer today.

Parnell
Playing down back, play maker like Caleb Daniel neat, fast and evasive. Great prospect

Hinge
Only saw one play he was involved in, but has a damaging kick. Imagine there is a spot for him.
Hamill vs Hinge watch for Wednesday.

Over heard a trainer speaking saying 2 more weeks of hard work then we go to another phase. So training loads must be high for the next two weeks.

Thanks for the write-up mate.

Is Fish training as a forward of defender?

Elite kick?

He's an excellent set shot too....in the SANFL.
I was commenting on his field kicking as was the original poster KITM, for a tall it's very efficient which is not always the case for 200cm+ guys.

Yeah I know, he has a very decent field kick in match sim, no idea he can translate that to afl.

From memory he has a pretty compact action and a low purposeful ball drop. Keeps his trajectory surprisingly low and accurate for a 200cm bloke.

Actually reminds me of Nathan Bocks kicking action a bit. Both kinda hunch over it to keep control of the ball drop. Having said that its probably been 12+ years since i've seen Bocky kick a footy

I think everyone is - well except baldandbroke
OK I'll reply seeing you tagged me.

After you posted this:

Luko is entering his 4th season. Has 4 preseasons under his belt and 60 games to his name. If he stays healthy why wouldn't he go to another level this year?

I pointed out that your "why wouldn't he go to another level" quote is not a fait accompli. We probably already know where Luko pretty much sits.

What most good coaches will tell you is that you won’t know what you’ve got until and around that 50 game mark … a bit longer for the bigger guys.

That is very different to what you are proposing. “Going to another level” is not the next step. Its not a natural progression.

Do we “know what we’ve got” in luko? Probably. At this stage an uncontested metres gained player. I don’t expect him to move to the forward line and instantly turn into Dunstall V2.0

You followed with:

But yeah I am gonna stick to my assertion that the 50 game milestone is a very important one for the majority of AFL players. Of course there are always gonna be outliers, but 50 games is where players feel comfortable at the AFL level and can truly excel.

Then I replied:

Luko has played 60 games

What part of this is confusing for you?

If you believe that players who reach the 50 game milestone "feel comfortable and can truly excel", Luko has played 60 - I think my description of him showing himself to be an uncontested metres gained player is pretty accurate. Doesn't make him a bad player - probably not the once-in-a-generation he was touted as - but certainly finding his place at AFL level.

I am very much on the 50 games + gives you a proper look at a player (as I posted). I just think maybe what you wish you could see in Lukosius' first 50 is just a figment of your fervent imagination. Now if you want to talk about a player that broke out after 50 and has a big future based on his actual games ... 64 game Dawson would be a good reference point

Wouldn't mind heading down to West Lakes to see our internal trial, do we think it'll be on Friday or the weekend?

Will it be a locked session?? Is that even possible for us at the moment?

he’s always been a very clean field kicker.. rarely misses a target.

but for goal, at AFL level.. massive, massive choker.

Its all in his head unfortunately for Big Billy.. because he’s pretty good in front of the sticks at SANFL level.

who knows.. he might get given a game or two at AFL level this year and in one of those games have an absolute blinder and it all clicks for him from there on in. he’d be a bloody handy player if it did.

Imagine a 200cm KPD that could swing forward and kick goals AND chop out in the ruck too.

the chances of this all happening?.. slim. but he’s on the list for another year so he’s got one last chance.

Port rarely let quality talent leave their club, they knew all about Billy.
