Do you seriously think a 19yr old HR sits here thinking “ in four yrs time me and Smithy and some other P3-7 are gunna tear sides apart”??
Harley already knows that. Doesn't think it. Knows it.

Harley and Baker is like having a cartoon script. Batman and Robin. Need more corporate law firm. Batman, Batman and Batman.

So Reid embarrassed to be drafted by Freo (where is Fremantle?). Countdown to exit t-3yrs.

Allan embarrassed but in a manner where you grow up in say balga but then you move to Cottesloe as you progress through life. You realise that your balga mates will just not understand and try to show you are still the same.
Disappointed in leaving home was my read. His Dad snapped out of it and gave a good account of himself, but when the initial announcement happened, you could tell the doctor just told them they had cancer.

I'll eat my pissy sheets if the Dogs pick isn't Moraes (because they just have a type), so either Shanahan or J.Whitlock will be there for us, one of whom is probably the supposed top 15 target. Think it might be the latter actually.

But he is from WA, you can choose to ignore that fact to fit your argument, but I think it's very valid to take a local player.

If Reid was from WA I'd assume we would have taken him instead.

We need to be mindful to balance the list with local and interstate talent, with WA talent in a bit of a rut these last few years I think there is greater reason to take local when available without comprising on talent which the recruiters appear to have done well.

We don't shy away from taking Vic players, but when it's a coin toss which it appears to be with Allan v Reid I'm comfortable to go local.
I shouldn’t have said that because it’s distracted from the point I was making but can see how it’s being misconstrued.

It wasn’t even close to a coin toss IMO. Regardless of Bo being a local I think Murphy was a far bigger need for us. To me Bo projects as a strong, athletic HBF just like Ginbey and just like Chesser before him. We need someone in the midfield with poise and precision and Murphy was a steal at that pick.
Who was you choice at our pick out of interest?

Obviously of those available at that pick.
Murphy Reid and it’s not even close.
Who would you have taken with pick 3? From what I've gleaned on here (which is the extent of my draft watching) - FOS is the player I rated the highest, with Draper next level. Jagga Smith can find the ball but looks far too small for AFL (and the fact he hasn't bulked up 12 months out of school is a real worry). Bo Allen fits in with the rest of the next tier to me - has some absolutely elite attributes but also some flaws. I'm pretty happy we got him at selection 16.
Jagga. But I would have first offered Norf pick 3 and Hawthorn’s F2 for 2 and their F3 and taken FOS had it been accepted.

Categorically I am not happier so that statement certainly doesn't speak for me. Bo was not the right choice IMO and if he wasn't from WA I don't think we'd have picked him. I'm happy we didn't do some ludicrous trade like Norf did with our future picks but in no way are we even close to being in as good of a position as we were when we had pick 3 or even after trading it for 12 and 14, which would have netted 45 anyway.

I'm not going to cast judgement on the entire draft and trade period until its completed but it's going to take something spectacular tonight to be considered even close to successful in my eyes. I'm pleased for those that do consider it a success and that they have been able to take some enjoyment out of it.

Shanahan Moraes gross the top 15-20 targets.

All were talked about earlier in the year as top 10-15 picks.

If tigers keep 28 they might take Shanahan, but they need a ruck badly. Dodson won't last past 35-40, if that. I can see the saints, giants, port all being keen with one of their picks.

Dogs at 29 might be Moraes but also might be gross.

Leaves us with the choice of Shanahan, Moraes gross. If it's gross we take him. If the dogs take gross I recon we take Shanahan and then the dogs get Moraes anyway next pick.

If the tigers trade out to the bombers, they'll take Shanahan 28 and then the dogs will choose one of Moraes or gross 29 leaving us the other one 30.

Just out of curiosity I would be interested in reading your critique of Shanahan.

It seems as if you are not a fan of his.
I'm not a fan of taking a KPF and really can't see why we are linked to him.
Picking a KPF with the plan of turning him into a KPD when there are some well performed KPDS still on the board makes no sense to me.
The way it's looking there'll be some good talent at that position even after our first pick on night 2
Also I'd quite like to draft curtin next year and would be quite happy to give jamo, barnett and bazzo next season to show what they can do

Really hope he or Ginbey can become genuine midfielders or at least one of them.
Just a rough outlook on the back/midfield thing - We now seem to be rich with backs, probably pushing some others into Beagles as depth (great problem to have). Whatever the back mix will be, it promises an exciting switch-up. For those worried about the midfield future, we have Reid, Yeo, Kelly, Hewett, Graham- with Hunt, Hall, Maric, Hutch, Baker, Chesser, (and lets not forget the supersonic Sheed), who may or may not roll through the centre (all listed as midfielders). If Hewett can remain foot injury free, if Hall and Chesser get reinvented by the new coach/gameplan we could have a solid midfield for a few years. Maric, Hutch and Hunt should perform well wherever they're thrown.

For those worried about the approaching cliff re Yeo, Kelly, (and Gov), and to a lesser degree, Baker, Graham and Owies - in due course BO and/or Ginbey will push into the midfield. We have numerous forward options. The Wafl team should be improved on recent years. Meanwhile we have the draft picks of today and tomorrow, and a clutch of good future picks next year. Some players may disappoint but some players may surprise. The way I see it we finally have some solid traction in a rebuild going forward.
What's not to like?

Ginbey is / was / remains a stud. Once fully formed (my god) will be so strong and athletic. Far from ruling him out as a mid. He developed there late as a junior pretty much when he was bigger and stronger than most. In the next couple years we may watch that history repeat at senior level. He’s a gun

Whatever.

Feel free to note how often I add " IMO" in my posts. It's pretty bloody frequently.

I do that to show it's an opinion not a fact or from elsewhere.

I find it irritating people post things that are so easily proven to be total BS. Like your post now.

Anyway enjoy the remainder of the draft.

I would have thought that most of the elite KPDs would have been drafted as KPF.

The Jagga Smith not bulking up is a weird take. You don't want an 18 year old trying to bulk on his own, would risk a huge loss of fitness and possible injury trying to over do it. With a dedicated weights program and nutritionist it'd make a huge difference.
Yep Tony Notte was a monster by the end of his career, Jagga Smith appears to have the bone structure similar to David Bain, I’m sure he’ll bulk up nicely👍

Cal said there would have been an exchange of picks or something as well, it wasn't as straightforward as 30 for sliding down 2 places.
Once Richmond picked hotton and faull 2 players tipped to go after us port and freo we lost all bargain power with 3 players Berry Allen Reid the 3 clubs would be happy taking .

Pick 45 was a token pick to guarantee port got their man .

If we swapped with freo they may have taken Allen or Berry and port which one was left .

Sound move to pocket pick 45 and take Allen.

Reid is a flight risk

Shanahan or Whitlock would be good additions and bargains at 30 but I'm leaning towards take Moraes.
I would be happy to trade down with saints if they are keen on shanahan.

Go back 2 spots and pocket a future f2 .

Next season having 3 2nd rounders to trade up to one of GC first rounders would be a great result .

Then 2 x 3rd rounders for bid matching

The west says we are linked to some west Aussies at 30. Can't see who while at work. Anyone got the details?
