The Good, the bad and the ugly - Rnd 1 v Collingwood

Good
Where do you start and where do you stop
Edwards, Goody and Macca despite their ages are still elite players
Petrenko, Otten, Dangerfield and Cook have all shown that they will be long term quality players in this side
Walker and Hentchel although quiet it is a good sign that we can win games without these guys having a huge influence
Vince and VB are the new midfield leaders, Thompson to come back in we will only get better
Tippett's celebrations - he is embracing the young side
Having $100 on the crows at $3.25:thumbsu: :)

Bad
Kicking for goals

Ugly
Nothing

Bring on the Saints

The Good:

Getting game time into Rutten, VB, Porps and Hentschel. Particularly the last two, there was one moment I think in the second quarter where Trent did some turns on a dime to evade some Pies and didn't think twice about it so he obviously has plenty of confidence in the knee.

I'm surprised that no-one else has mentioned this, it was absolutely brilliant!

In the final quarter so many players from both teams were completely out on their feet and making errors and costly turnovers and Porps charged through 3 Collingwood players, rode a bump and dished out a perfect clearing handball to a free player. If Collingwood had taken possession they would have had another inside 50 and potentially another scoring opportunity. Games are won and lost in plays like this & I thought it was tremendous and underplayed by the commentators and by most here on BF. All class Porps!

Yep. In pressure situations is where you can tell the difference between your average AFL footballer and a gun. Porps showed just in that play why he is a gun.

That was fantastic, just was bigger, and smarter. Then ended up infront of Goody who just bulldozed his man got the ball to a running danger (to quote a gay but pretty funny song) and I Jizzed in my pants....almost, if he had of kicked it maybe...

Loved our attack on the ball - the boys put their head over it and weren't afraid to get hurt. Porplyzia's effort on the wing in the last few minutes where he road the bump and managed to end up with the ball was awesome.

Yeah that effort was awesome, also showed he has no worries about his shoulder either.

The Good- The excitement of the build up generated by our youngsters
Pale Ale on tap in a bar with a gigantic plasma tv
The gutsy effort by the whole team to get back into the lead, and then defend it to record an incredible team building win
The group doing the massive hugfest at the final siren to further build the belief in the team
The performances of Vince, Petrenko and Otten- awesome I had a beer for each of them, and all of their teammates.

The Bad- The drunk duffus who hearthed out of the ether and plonked himself next to the three of us watching the game and then tried to antagonise me for the last two quarters. Spitting out "F...8*8 kill him Anthony" during the push and shove, or "Go you Woods" every two minutes. The joy of him storming out on the final siren leaving his half drunk pint sitting on our table was just beautiful.

The Ugly- The story I was told of a certain young player who is hopelessly homesick and wants to go home big time, I think he will be an automatic selection every time we play in Victoria. Hoping this is just a beat up!

Care to expand on this !!!!!!!!!!!!!???????

The Good:

-Petrenko. We have something special here. An aboriginal player who is natural in and under, rare as hens teeth.
-Macca
-The tackling and intensity at the opposition player.
-One of the clubs great wins.
-Umpiring. Probably one of our best ever rides v Collingwood
-Captain Maric
-Scott Stevens. One of the competitions most underrated players.
-Trent H - Just to see him out there must be an incredible lift for his teammates.

The Bad:

-Tippett. Still learning the trade. Not a natural footballer. Must be played as a permanent forward, doesn't have the smarts (yet) for around the ground play.
-Knights - My man had a shocker. However, still did a few nice things but not one for the highlights reel.

The Ugly:

-Goal kicking.
-Otten droping his head in a marking contest. More than made up for it with a really impressive performance.

Are we making a believer out of you Drum?

It would be impossible to feel bad about Douglas after that game. If he plays like that the whole year he'll have convinced me as well.

The Ugly- The story I was told of a certain young player who is hopelessly homesick and wants to go home big time, I think he will be an automatic selection every time we play in Victoria. Hoping this is just a beat up!

Are we talking a teenager or one of the more experienced guys?

Hope you're not talking about when Stevo went for the chest mark behind instead of the spoil and Otten did nothing? Clearly Stevo called for the ball!! Hehe..

I saw the moment too. I think it was in the first quarter around the centre of the ground. Andy was going for the mark but a Collingwood player was going back with the flight of the ball. Andy shirked at the last second.

I thought he made up for it though in the last quarter when he canoed into the side of an opponent to effect a spoil. Actually, most of his game after that initial contest was more 'tough' so to speak.

Yep :thumbsu:

He seemed immediately embarrassed by that first contest and you couldn't question his effort for the rest of the game. Made a mistake, learned from it, won't repeat it. Why isn't it always that easy?

The Good
SUCK THAT PIES!

The Bad
Knighta gets an upgrade from ugly for that final goal.
Accuracy in front of goal. Or maybe it just looks poor considering CW could barely miss.
Edit: Would have loved to see Cook kick that goal. He would have got it if he had a decent haircut.
The Ugly
Toovey.

Sort of sad the way he's obviously spent the off season trying to think of witty things to say.

Could not agree more, Dwayne Russell is a flat out w***er.:)

As for the win......one word......Awesome!

He's a class act. If you didn't know he had only played 2 games until that point you would've sworn he was a 100-150 game player. Very excited by Andy :)

The forward line was good and Bad. It was fantastic that we can knock off a top 4 side from last year and our prelim nemesis without any dominant forwards (except Stevo you could say). The Bad being that all were quiet, although I hardly saw Tippett up forward.
Walker went quiet but it was his first game, Trent got into the gaem but was playing as a CHF more than a deep forward and Tippett as I said wasn't noticed up forward.
I think we lacked that CHF option to allow Trent and Walker to stay in the forward 50. In other games we may be burnt if we don't have the twin pronged attack. Probably need Tippett and Gill at the CHF range with Tippett and Henschtel swapping. I can't see the guys winning plenty of games without a 2 and 2 forward attacking structure.
Of course someones has to be dropped for GIll, no idea who!!

2 things.

The source of your story (rumour). What relationship to the alleged home-sick individual? Unless it's a credible source it amounts to no more than blowing wind out of their arse.

Secondly, who is the player? At this stage you have given no name or no source, so at this stage your "story" has the credibility status of those get rich quick Nigerian schemes.

PS What's your bank a/c details so we can deposit a million dollars in it?? ;)

the good:

Petrenko having a gun game loved his hardness at the ball out of the debutants he had the best game, Along with Otten, Cook and dangerfields first half were good as well.

The first quarter-disposal good, delivery into the foward line looked good, Vince had a good game :thumbsu:.

Mcleod-back to his best.

Hentschell being out there had the nerves jump in the throat in case he did the knee again.

The bad:

Knights decidsion and disposal was shocking today, kicked the goal in the last quarter though so doesnt go in the ugly category.

Goal kicking needs to be worked on.

Cook taking that mark but not finishing off.

Good: Great Comeback win. Winning by less than a kick. Showing composure when it mattered most. Midfield Pressure. Attack on the ball. Forward line movement. Hentchel's return, he used the ball nicely. McLeod, Edwards and Rutten. Richard Douglass' punch late.

Bad: Wasting our early lead and letting them back into the game. But that was expected so I was not surprised.

Ugly: Some easy misses at goal. But it happens to all teams.

The Good:
Otten: Terrific game. Has a big future. Loved the stunned commentators when he did his little dance around and fend off and how they couldn't believe someon his size could do it

Petrenko: The new McLeod. Has a huge future. Needs to be encouraged to continue taking them on.

Cook: Happy with his game. A few fumbles here and there but definately has somethiong special about him.

Walker: A bit quiet, but seemed to work hard and just wasn't his day. Will be better next week.

Dangerfield: Seemed nervous at the start and fumbled a bit. But coach showed confidence in letting him play and he got better as the game went on. Haven't seen enough of his bursting away from packs yet, but I am still convinced he will be a star (and future Brownlow winner - yes I went there!).

Rendell: Credit where it is due.

Victorians: On Friday I read the tips for the top 8 on BF. I couldn't believe how many people had us in bottom 4. They do it every year and yet we make the finals every year. You'd think they would learn.

Bad:
Collingwoods coaching. Hey Malthouse the game has changed in the last 5 years. Every other coach has seen it and yet you refuse to change. Idiot.

Knights: The most frustrating player on our list. Is it selfishness or terrible decision making? His decisions to call for a handball when running towards his right as one of our players was running inside forward 50 was terrible. Not only is he making a guy give off when he should be telling him to settle, but he does it when he will have to stop prop and get back on his left. Stop calling for the ball all the bl00dy time! It's not about how many stats you get!!!!!!!!! Really annoyed me.

Mackay and Reilly: A bit quiet. I'm hoping they both have big seasons.

Umpires: As others have said. Holding the ball is a lottery - seems to depend on how long it has been since that particular umpire had his head on the TV. The push in the back rule is the worst one. Here's an idea everyone, when you get tackled, dive forwards. It doesn't matter what has happened just dive forwards, land on your chest and you will get a free-kick because the umpires are morons.

The Ugly

The commentators. Hey guys, you're commentating a game with two teams. Is it too much to ask you to do a bit of research on both teams? Unprofessional crap.

Yeah I should have waited until I had researched a little deeper but the worrying point for me is that it came from a friend with deep connections into SA football, so I will go to my next informant to clarify.

And as far as a name goes I think it would be dangerous to give that until it is verified, but obviously it is one of our young Victorian lads.

Now about my bank details...

Bad - Walker - I can only think of 3 touches he had (just checked the stats 5 touches). Each of those 3 were good touches (goal, missed goal, composure late in the last) but he never really got into the game besides that. Yes I know he's young so i would give him another game, but a match like that next week and I wouldnt be suprised if Gill comes in for him
Just had to check Modra's first games stats (i was 2 when he made his debut)

Walker had a better game.

Now im sold Walker > Modra
