Ben King likes the Gold Coast environment, liked what the club was doing off field, liked the level of young talent on the list, liked they were getting more concessions from the AFL and liked the coach.

We don't have any of those things going for us.

Not at the moment, but it only takes 1-2 years for that wheel to turn.

2-3 years ago, Gold Coast were an absolute basketcase.

Im worried for Nicks. Lack of cattle or not, there is no excuse for the way we are playing. I know its early days to make a call on him but gee for the players to not respond to a new coach or even show signs of wanting to impress is speaking volumes.

Nicks is too raw - needs a mentor, Roos (they'd share a defensive mindset), Lyon (ditto), Balme (look what he's done at Richmond), Blighty (might be a few sparks, interesting thinker, but a long time out of the game), Brad Scott??

I agree we have a lot of talent on our list, but so does every club. Just about sifting and sorting now.

I do think right now, its probably just Fogarty, though I would say the floor for Jones and McHenry is good AFL players. McAsey its way too soon, but I doubt he'll miss as a prospect.

Hamill I'll be watching with interest seeing he was very impressive. Doedee could be if we push towards a midfield role. Schoenburg has always given me a good feeling. Milera if it clicks could be as well (Though, injuries are starting to mount up). Gollant is a bit of a dark horse as well.

Schoenburg and O'Connor both look good prospects .....but Doedee certainly as a midfielder could be great, and you know I love contested marking midfielders

Club just has to blood these players appropriately .....can't play them all at once in the midfield at this point

So it's a tightrope in development ....how many, how soon can you expose these kids .....and of course it means some tough discussions with senior players

I don't see those tough discussions / decisions happening though till years end

Certainly won't be long B4 Gibbs pulls the plug ...within the next month I think

They haven't responded even pre season. I had my concerns in the trial games. He hasn't brought anything new to the group and he can't motivate them. He was selected as he looked good on paper, but it doesn't mean much until you are in the chair.

I think unfortunately he is way out of his depth as a Senior Coach. He is a Mark Neeld or Brenden Boulton type.

That's on the players now, I don't think anyone can motivate them while they're here anymore. They're happy to collect their paycheck, but have no intent to earn it. Nicks needs to use this moment to set the non-negotiables to every single player. Mistakes are OK, but effort should never be missing. If it is then the players can pack their bags and find a new club next year.

This can seriously be a make or break moment for Nicks and Kelly, Fagan and the Board need to back him 100% that this effort isn't acceptable and guys will pay the price for it. If he doesn't do that then the players have won and will know again they're the ones with the power and this is acceptable.

Since the middle of last year we've gone 2 wins and 10 losses with an average losing margin of 37pts. We've lost our last 6 games in a row with an average losing margin of 46pts. We are just non-competitive.

Symptomatic of the problem really, where honest triers like Kelly and Murphy who have all the effort but not enough of the talent are in the top 5 every week.

I remember when Kelly first played in 2015. Thought he wasnt the answer back then and haven't ever changed my mind.

Those writing McAsey off as a defender don't know what they're talking about. He's just not physically ready.
But we need to play him because he is the future of our defence. He is good enough, his junior year showed this.
Just needs a couple of summers in the gym.
Fans need to lay off and be patient.
Alex Rance was putrid early on in his career.

I don't think anyone is righting him off. However a club on its knees in deep rebuild mode shouldn't be wasting pick 6 on a key defender.

Its just going to be a damn bumpy ride to get to that future because of how much damage we've done to this senior group.

At this point I'd sooner play Poholke and Gallucci than players who certainly aren't ready for senior football like Gollant, O'Connor, and Worrell

Why is there not more heat on Godden? He's been in charge of our midfield for nearly two years now and in that time, pretty much every single midfielder has regressed under him. Guys like Jones and Gallucci were better players in their draft year than they are now.
