its amazing how some fans are doing mental gymnastics to justify letting SPP slip through to us at pick 18.

saw something similar about low ceiling on the Suns board yesterday too.
Funny thing is that even if he stays only at this level for the next 10 years , it's pretty darn good. Lots of sour grapes over yonder. At least WC fans, although salty, in the main admire the fella.

it seams to be based on his u18s nationals performance, but pretty sure ken mentioned that we wanted him since june 2016 when we saw him playing the WAFL
Low foreheads are dominating the "low ceiling" derp site wide

Hah, gambled our long term future on a ready made player with a low ceiling? Must have been why we took that Marshall bloke first, ya know, the not even close to ready made player with the highest ceiling in the draft?

Doesn't need a higher celing (as has been said a hundred times already), if this is the best he gets, then he is good enough.

The only time I ever turn AA on, is once or twice a season, the last few minutes when Adelaide is losing badly, for the Lol's. How anyone could subject themselves to it during the week is beyond me.
If we win Saturday night I won't be able to turn it on fast enough.

Apart from that hell no.

Ollie Wines's averages after 2 games:

32 disposals, 7.5 clearances, 4.5 tackles, 1 goal (81.1% TOG).

2016's best extractors:

Cripps:
27 disposals, 8.8 clearances, 6.6 tackles, .5 goals (83.8 TOG).

SPP is the cognitive dissonance pick of the 2016 National Draft.

Opposition supporters are totally suffering cognitive dissonance over SPP.

It's so easy to pick apart the argument:
1) SPP taken far too early in the draft - he was drafted at pick 18 and was Port's second pick after Marshall.
2) Low ceiling - SPP had 8 clearances in his 2nd game. That doesn't look like a low ceiling to me. The major criticism of SPP was his kicking which appears to have been overstated.
3) Any comparison to Rich - SPP and Rich have completely different body shapes (one is tall with long arms, the other is short with short arms) and were drafted under different circumstances (2nd pick at #18 vs 1st pick at #7), there's no comparison.

That St Kilda facebooker wasn't paying attention to Emma Quayle's 2016 mock draft - she had the Saints picking SPP with their first pick (25).

Lol by the end of this year Ollie will be rated amongst the top players in the game. He is singlehandedly leading our revival IMO. He has been outstanding, is looking very well rounded and almost unstoppable at times.

No matter which way you look at it, SPP can only get better with some experience, development in the defensive part of his game, some growth in consistency and continued exposure to the top level.

SPP is a great pick up at 18. As a 1st year player though I certainly don't expect him to keep this current lofty standard up indefinitely, but I'm enjoying it for now.

Say what you like about footy in general, but to call a player like Wines 'B Grade' is just being plain ******* stupid.

Yes, real stupid. I was a bit miffed when we missed out on drafting Luke Dunstan a few years ago (who incidentally went at pick 18!) - our first pick was at 21, when we took Jarman Impey. I wonder if the Saints fan now sees Dunstan as 'B Grade' - in comparison to our Ollie he certainly is :p
