The thing about sumich and dew not being called tells me that the club already has its man, and has had him locked in for some time.

The knockers may think the club is incompetent, but they're not so incompetent that they would conduct a search for a coach without contacting dew or sumich.

This is really hard to pick..

Numerous people have said Dew hasn't even received a call from the AFC.. Same was said about Sumich..
Their colleagues may be saying that to protect them if they're not successful with their application, so they don't start having the questions marks hovering over their heads as to why they fail to land jobs..

Ye not sure about that.

Rowey obviously has contacts in the AFC. The other day he was relaying some info from the club to supporters. That info was:

1) this will be finalised quickly.
2) the club knows what they want and who they want, and have gone after the candidates.
3) there are 2 candidates and the club would be happy with either one.
4) confirmed that Sumich, Dew, Burns and Tudor have not been spoken to by the club. Pretty sure Sumich himself has also been quoted as not being contacted.
5) confirmed Bassett has
6) sounded like they have also spoken to Bolton and Ratten.
7) the head coach will be announced by the end of next week

Whilst some bag Rowey he is close to the club and has the contacts. I'm going on the assumption his info is accurate and he's not feeding the supporters a line.

Sick of hearing people still clinging to the dream Clarko is coming here.

He aint.

He has a chance at being the first Hawthorn coach to wini four flags. That will be his legacey.

And good on him. He has built this team up from nothing into a powerhouse.
I agree. Lets get Bassett to turn us into a powerhouse again. They way the Hawks put the Swans to the sword was amazing. Skills and hardness are elite.

Yeah I've been thinking it's Bassett or Bolton with a senior assistant unless there's been good stealth work and it might well be someone like Dew..
There aren't many senior assistants around so that might be Ratten..

I am liking this line of thinking a lot!

Bassett has all the tools to be a VERY VERY GOOD coach at this level. He is definitely a different cat. A perfectionist whom players love but he also has hard edge and can give mother of all sprays! I rate the fact that he has taken over a basket case team and built them into a powerhouse. Sure its the SANFL but it is the 2nd best competition in the country.

He is far from a member of the boys club so any suggestions of such are ridiculous at best. And no I am NOT a Norwood fan. I just rate the guy immensely as a coach. If we don't get him, someone else will reap the rewards when they do.

Get Bassett and put a great team around him and watch him turn us into what Hawthorn are today. When it comes to coaching, some guys just have it! The Hound is one of those guys. The players will LOVE him no doubt,

Definitely. One other comment stood out to me. When the old coaches were chatting, they all agreed that a great coach was the alpha male. When he walked into the room, he was the man, he demanded respect. He took no shit and was in charge.

That describes Clarkson, Lyon, Longmire, Roos - even Hinkley.

It does not, in any way, describe Sando.

Yeah, I can picture this alpha male telling our players "HTFU!".:D

He can bring Aish and Puopolo with him if he likes!

Whats peoples obsession with ROK or is it just because people believe we are already getting him that hes getting mentioned (i realize hes been interviewed)
Personally I would be happy with an assortment of assistants from various successful clubs. My thinking is that by doing this we give our coach access to as many of the best current tactics as possible.

I think Bassett will be a very good senior coach one day.

Ideally though he'd spend several more years in the AFL system, perhaps experience a different role, different club or different senior coach, and then step into a senior role.

It's only because our job is available that he's being mentioned this early in his career. If it was Gold Coast instead of us who had the coaching vacancy no one would be mentioning Bassett.

Still, sometimes planets don't align. It might be a fraction early for Bassett in an ideal world but you can't always get exactly what you want.

No matter who coaches us Camporeale, Clarke and Bickley cannot be part of the coaching team. Regardless of whether they are any good, they have been there a long time, we have had minimal success during their time and we need some fresh voices and ideas.
