There were quite a few players worse than Duryea tonight.
He played well, no way he should be in the gun.
Oh yes he should be in the gun. He cost us two goals. We lost because of his errors. No Geelong defender butchered the ball the way he did. Back to the VFL imo. Also, VDM was poor and Daniel had the worst game of his career.

You can chose to be down on that performance all you want.

What I saw was us fighting back hard, playing hard and almost beating a team that was 3-0 to start the season.

We’ve been pumped by Geelong for far too long in terms of skill and pressure, tonight was such an improvement. I’m choosing to be positive but if you want to be negative that’s more than fair after a loss
I love your positivity, but they were coming off a 5 day break and a heavy track. Thought we might stretch them at some point but never did.

Losing such a game always hurts but we need to maintain perspective.

That was a very tough game against a quality side that played well and got more than their share of lucky breaks during the game.

We missed a bunch of shots on goal. Marra the worst offender missing multiple gettable opportunities, but he was not on his own. VDM's was also a very painful miss.

We still have a bunch of players that aren't going that well, but are building, so the future looks OK.

Let's hope the boys react in the right way and can build on a very good performance. Hopefully they become determined to not lose like that again.

I'd argue that was the best game of the season so far. I think it is also arguable that we were slightly the better side in general play, even though we couldn't quite show it on the scoreboard.

Certainly plenty of positives to take from the game.

Hopefully somewhere in this future Gryan Miers isn't better than 90% of our list

Great work again OG. Thanks.

Looks to me like we won or squared nearly every important stat ... except the only one that really matters at the end of the season.

Sad, but we can take a little bit of solace from that. We just need to keep putting in the effort. There will be days when it goes the other way.

I‘m ropable. If Naughton and English show up we win that.

When it comes to the genuine sides, these two consistently underwhelm.

I mean, how often do we need to see this - particularly with English.

Naughton cannot be this ineffective in his contract. It is unacceptable to have so little impact where/when it matters.

I’ve seen a lot of positive posts in this thread, so I must be a natural pessimist because that was horrible. Geelong are not a top team imo, particularly away from home, and they just kept us at bay all game.

It’s not the loss so much as how predictable it is that the game is played on their terms, they dominate us for most of the game and then squeak home.

I’d have to imagine this burns for Bont, Bevo and everyone else because it’s ****ing embarrassing as a supporter. Get your ****ing act together and beat this ****ing mob in a game that matters ffs.

English belted again where it all starts

Again we lose a close one it is be coming the rule rather than the exception

We forget Cats off a 5 day break we didn’t capitalise on that

Cats and some specific players of the Cats along with Scott just look forward to playing us and with good reason

I can’t imagine I will ever respect a Dogs player more than Tom. Just beyond words.

Probably the best inside mid game I’ve ever seen played to be honest. The fact this guy has never been named an All Australian is ridiculous. Consistently one of the best in the competition for years now.

When you look at our fixture and the difficulty of our double up games (we are currently doubling up against 5 of the top 8 teams and only 1 of the bottom 10), we just had to win that game. Won’t get a better opportunity to beat one of the current better sides.

We do look to have made some improvements but the biggest worry is that the season plays out the same way as the last 2 where we aren’t good enough to beat the good sides.

Hawkins, Cameron and Stewart are all great players who look even better because of how well the systems they work in function.

Below that they are made up of mainly role players who are used in a way that allows them to use their best attributes and not expose their worst. That is something Bevo has never been capable of doing.

Stanley, Bruhn, Parfit, Bowes and Clarke were Geelongs top 5 cba attendees. That is a bottom 4 midfield in the comp. Yet somehow that group scored multiple goals straight out of stoppage because, again, Bevo has never been able to solve that problem.

I agree they’re a good side, but they’re not undefeated because of top end talent, they’re undefeated because
1. Chris Scott is the best game day tactical coach in the game
2. They’ve played three (maybe four) sides who look very unlikely to make finals.
100 % spot on. I think Cats are overated. Have had a dream draw. You have hit the nail on the head on every point. Some supporters just see they are undefeated but do not review who they have played. They will make finals because of home ground advantage and how well they are coached. Scott has been great these past 4 seasons.

Appreciate that Oliver 👍
Interesting…. I recall during the game a chain of 3 broken takes within one passage . Our running half backs are not really interested in chasing hard defensively and forcing contest by tackle pressure . Really annoys me .
Darcy at 208 cm and with a developing frame can make 4/4 ….incredible

Only 4 games in but Naughton is averaging 1 goal per game and Jamarra 1.5 goals. This just doesn't seem good enough considering their talent. Sure our system is often poor bringing the ball into their area but they've had long enough to work out how to work together and then, when they do get it, put it through the big sticks. Mirror watching recommended.

To clarify, his hands touched the ball whilst the edge of the ball was just touching the very back edge of the line, not exactly in front of it.

Should have been umpires call, a behind.

Sorry to pick you out specifically here, Proffessor, but it was a mark.

The ball isn't a score until it completely cross the back of the line.

He clearly (when I say clearly, I mean in a slow motion single frame) had his hands on the ball before it was entirely over the line. (Because we couldn't see the whole ball).

No fumble = mark.

Sorry gang, but as soon as they showed the first replay it was inevitable.

A few thoughts while I'm here, echoing many others...
...Dale was poor. One very soft moment early. Kicking has gone downhill. (Although did run and try hard late).

If we could sum VDM up in one play...we all know what it was.

Macrae? It's 100% clear that we can't play him and CD in the same team, so I didn't mind the plan...
...and (unfortunately) CD may have just solved that problem himself. :(

Glad others here have been talking about the skills.
Someone specifically mentioned Duryea. He was fantastic in his defensive role, but some of his kicking was 2 or 3 off over a 20m kick. Not good enough and killed forward momentum a few times.

Has to be clear and obvious without doubt to overturn umpires call,

With the cameras that are used no one can say either way there was enough evidence to overturn

I was one who wasn’t sure about Treloar’s contribution this year but jeez he’s he been good so far.

I’d love to get some youth in the midfield to complement Libba, Bont and Adz. Give Garcia and West some run in the midfield and see if they can build some form.
