I think this whole debate about the merits of wearing the prison bars in the Showdown is a case of not seeing the wood for the trees. I remain convinced that it's just a backdoor manouever to bring the prison bars back into the spotlight as a regular guernsey and make them seem acceptable to the wider football public before we strike and make them our full time home guernsey a few years down the track. The Showdown being two showpiece games per year is just the easiest and most convenient vehicle by which we can do this.

Nah I get that. I'm prepared for it. If it doesn't work though, then what? Do we keep it just for the lovely boys or default?

Yeah I understand that thought process. I personally just think it is time to move on. The BiB guernsey is great and should be our locked in jumper for the next 50+ years. The PB's should be nothing other than a throwback/history round edition.
I'm happy with the hybrid BIB-PBs but would still love to see us wear the PB's twice a year in Showdowns.

The clubs goal should be to bring back the prison bars by 2020 for the 150th. I can see the back panel being a step towards making the wider football public more susceptible to the idea, as a few people have mentioned already.

In reality, no-one but Eddie McGuire cares about whether we wear the prison bars or not, and I'd happily wear teal against Collingwood if it meant we could wear our best jumper 95% of the time.

p.s. My computer tries to auto-correct Collingwood to "controlling". How apt. :p

Bringing back the PBs full time means dropping teal altogether. Can anyone realistically see this happening? Whether you're happy with it or not, there's a whole generation of kids that recognise their heroes running around in the chevrons. Changing that now would be confusing for a lot of people.

+1 for wearing the bars on special occasions only. Maybe even half the time, but not as a permanent home strip.

This is the reason I am concerned. Kochie loves teal.

It's been 20 years. Koch has little to do with it.
Having spoken to him about it, I can assure you he does.

Were people confused when we changed TO the chevrons?

edit: I like the teal, it is distinctive as you say, a little bit on the PB's wouldn't hurt (on the logo or sponsors) and then as a change guernsey would be fantastic.

I don't think SBS to BiB was that drastic a change.

Well there's an important point - it would require a little bit of teal to be present, otherwise we're angling for a total rebrand. I just can't see that happening.

When I think PBs in the AFL, I think about one moment of pure footballing beauty.

Still plenty of PI guernseys at the Port Store if people are interested.

I managed to get my preferred #14, pretty happy given I was at work during the sale.

There are still plenty of home guernseys in less popular players, and a stack of Shanghai and training guernseys. There are even a few teal preseason guernseys left.

Exactly. There will come a point where the old school Magpie supporters will die off. The SANFL is no where near the competition it once was. Kids are now being brought up in the "Power" era not the "Magpie" era with black, white AND teal being the colours of their club.

I hate to say it but when the old school Magpies supporters die off and the next generation grow up, I'm not sure if they'll really care all that much about the Magpies. Sure, they'll recognise it as our history but they aren't going to view it's not what they've grown up with.

Don't think I worded that all that well but I think you get the point.
