Its amazing the difference in the reports from observers this year compared to last year

can't remember any reports of multiple players vomiting during training in the past. I might have done it but that was after a couple of months drinking beer in the sun and trying to get fit in March

I bet they remember this Pre season for some time, I'm loving it !

Go Dees Give 'em HELL !!!

As for my main spud Morton, if I notice things i'm sure the coaches do. In kicking drills everyone goes back and kicks off one or two steps. Morton shortened his distance every time with 5-6 steps.....Was the only one that did so and it stood out.
Would not be surprised in the slightest if this was true and the fact that he was the only one who had to do it is telling. What you're saying is pretty consistent with my thoughts on him last year.

His lack of power compromises his kicking ability off a short step and it catches him out quite often during games when he's under the pump. When he has time and space to wind up he's ok.

The goss I have is that the level of fitness that the players have, or should I say lack of fitness, has astounded the coaches & fitness staff. The player with the lowest skinfold test was a player in rehab, Nev Jetta, what the hell have the players been doing when they were each given an individual program to work to over the break.

I am so glad they are being pumped on the track, in a old school fashion, but it will have to be closely monitored to ensure we are not having stress fractures & op injuries on our hands. We will not see the real benefits of the new training regime until 2013, in my opinion...

I went down to see collingwood train and had a few looks at Melbourne.

Your boys just ran and ran and ran. I don't think I saw a football in any players hands. Looked like a tough session.

They got the footballs out eventually, after the Collingwood boys hit the sheds. Lots of repeat 1km runs today. Good runners included Morton, Trenners, Nicho and Tom Couch, who is a solid little unit. Looks to be a nice kick of the footy as well. He was kicking to Todd Viney for a time and Todd didn't have to move off his spot. Dunn looked a bit off the pace on these runs, but I'm not sure that he was in his element today. Gysberts (I think) was blowing up a bit.

Bate spent a lot of time with the mids again. Garland was with them for a time as well. Mids were doing plenty of in-close work. Medium-sized players like Green, Dunn, Garland etc had to do a lot of grappling drills. Dunn looked more in his element here.

LJ, Tappy, Jordie McKenzie and Nev Jetta ran laps. LJ was paced by one of the fitness guys. Mitch Clark didn't seem to do too much today, he also ran laps (very impressively might I add, he is a hell of a physical specimen and moves smoothly for a guy that size) and played kick to kick with Leigh Brown.

Jamar and Martin were off on their own doing ruck-related things and reflex/hand-eye challenges.

The person giving the most chirp from my vantage point was Max Gawn. He was genuinely getting behind his teammates as they were killing themselves on these 1km runs. Beamer and Trenners were up there too in this regard.

Didn't see anyone get a bake today.

And Jimmy was there watching on for a while.

MELBOURNE has been challenged on all levels by new coach Mark Neeld - and it's a good thing, according to ruckman Mark Jamar.

Neeld's inheritance of the underperforming Demons has come amid tough public pronouncements and promises of a harder edge to the team in 2012.
And Neeld is fronting every player one-on-one during pre-season training, making it clear what he expects on an individual and team level.

"He's straight to the point. You know exactly where you stand," Jamar said of his recent face-to-face meeting with former Collingwood assistant Neeld.
"We've all been challenged, and that's all part of footy. I think that's good. It's good for every single person to be challenged - then you don't get comfortable."

Controversial forward Colin Sylvia didn't train as he continues his rehab from an unspecified injury.

But one man who is turning heads for different reasons is Tom Couch, the son of 1989 Brownlow medallist Paul.

Couch, who played for Collingwood's VFL team this year, was this week invited to train with the Demons and has impressed onlookers with his running ability.

Good to see Couch is going well... Otherwise just a puff piece.

Again, work got the better of me on Friday.

Sorry guys.

Next week is looking to be a struggle as well; the next two should be in the bag though.

Would someone please mind doing a more detailed write-up for training? Just so that there's something there.

I like Howe running up a wing Buddy style. Did it well at points last year. One of he or Watts should assume that role if Morton doesn't make it.
