Keep.

Stop punishing those that aspire to greatness and richness.

Raise taxes on ciggies, VB, V8 cars, AC/DC merch and other bogan stuff.

The world has gone mad when we try hard to pay extra into our super so we are self funded retirees and not a financial burden on society and we are punished for doing so.

Speaking of burdens, it's time to bring in the fat tax. Any rubbish food, Macca's, Tim Tams, chips, soft drinks, tax them all at cigarette levels.

If you want to eat crap then you can help fund your treatment.

Yes, no different to the Alco Pop tax. What is interesting Mcdonalds using a floating price system now. They charge more in poorer suburbs, because the clients are willing to pay more.

Keep it.

It is not a divine right to own property.
As long as there is good options for housing for those that don't 'own' and rental controls are in place, it's a system that works.

We help people with home ownership, as you know. What we find if people are realistic there are still loan products out there to get into your first home at reasonable prices and affordable housing options. The problem is people are not willing to sacrifice, sacrifice the distant to buy a house or their short term luxuries. Too many kids are just making life decisions without a plan. Then the after thought are the big decisions eg house but it's too late.

Wonder if they'll ever put warning labels on shit food and alcohol

Have Clive Palmer or Gina Rinehart been through a Macca's drivethru lately?

Fat's fat. Sugar's sugar. Calories are calories.

Deeming a bacon & egg mcmuffin in the morning as 'bad' and therefore taxable while someone else has a tax-free buttersoaked croissant and juice smoothie with as much sugar in it as fizzypop from a hipster cafe would be the most typical cherrypicking government bullshit ever.

Well lets have a ****ing hipster tax as well, ****ing beard growers.

Another bullshit tax, why is wine treated differently again?

Isn't "people with few options will pay more if you make them" pretty much what Enron worked out?

Correct, which I don't understand how that supports 'keep it'?

Its also not a divine right to get tax breaks to buy property

Fast food is actually handy for weight loss because they have to provide calorie counts for every item they sell.

Couldn't agree more, which is why I said "any rubbish food".

Mick D's was just one example. Rinehart's double fudge whale sundae is just as tax worthy.

I'm still puzzled about the way GST applies to certain foods. I get that sparkling mineral water is taxable, presumably due to the carbonation process, but the fancy 'toffee & honeycomb twist' yogurt is tax free, while unsalted cashews are taxable (at least according to my Woolies shopper docket)! o_O

So... fine Italian and French cuisine too?

Depends on the dish, depends on the quantity.

For example a traditional pizza has a thin base, lots of veg and almost no cheese, whereas an American bastardisation of the concept is almost exclusively cheese and dough. So even though they are both "pizza" they are clearly not the same thing.

Getting rid of negative gearing is not creating a tax, it is getting rid of concessions that only the affluent can get. That's why it's unfair.

Reducing personal income tax just because you can afford to buy a spare property is a ridiculous concept.

Nearly as ridiculous as the argument that it's for the public good!

Sounds perfectly practical and enforceable. :thumbsu:

Perfection is not the goal when you're talking about tax. There will always be evaders, ways to screw the system, that's a given.

I could go one of these right now... tax me ya campaigners

I don't know how much you earn, but it's not enough! :D

No it isn't, but it is a mechanism that offers a market based incentive for investors to provide affordable rented housing.

You're talking about introducing a system whose overheads would comfortably outweigh any imaginable gains.

`mechanism that offers a market based incentive for investors', call a tax dodge a tax dodge eh?

Take the tax regained from removing negative gearing and put some or all of it into public housing, win win.
