Its an improvement in regards to being a corporate logo required for multi media branding and the like.

But I dont really think its "better" and honestly just prefer the traditional one.

All I have to say is; use transparent background on jumpers you nuffies. Just add a black trim not a friggen box.

I get it on a corporate level, but on apparel that isn't straight black, if they go with that set up it's straight trash and might as well be a rando sponsors badge instead of intrinsic to a sporting club. IE tacked on for the sake of it.

What I've never got is there's no dot in St Kilda. I just rolled with it on the old logo but now we've got just our name and kept the dot! I mean I like the dot but not sure why it's there.

The abbreviation of Saint is St. so it would've been a stylistic decision back in the day. And now being synonymous with us, Im glad it has stayed :)

In the video explanation of it they have a bit of an animation demonstrating the design elements. One of the frames between shows this which I feel is 200x better than what they’ve gone with.

It's great, it asserts who we are more clearly and it's something the players can more get around. A bunch of letters, dots and words in latin isn't that inspiring tbh. Also it looks a lot more like a shield again.

Some thoughts

- Could have been wayyy worse

- They were always going to dump the K.F.C. Forget about Red Rooster being a sponsor, it's no good having KFC in red and white on your main logo

- I love the old logo of course, but with the latin in the banner it would look a lot like a school logo to the uninitiated

- I'm glad they kept some semblence of a banner. Any St.K shield with nothing at the bottom looks naked IMO

- The T in ST. is a little too wide

- I also immediately saw the optical illusion with the triangle at the bottom as someone else mentioned earlier

Overall, I'm just so glad they didn't make the stickman primary logo / invent some god awful Baltimore Ravens Saint head. I think we got off pretty well here.

I think this is like a few years ago when the AFL released the new HD recordings of the club songs and the sky was falling because the drumming wasn't exactly the same as in our original (from the 70s) recording.

Once again, our original logo (from the 70s) has been replaced by a newer version that's been built for the modern technology that will display it. The essence of the old logo (and the even older versions that that logo is based on) are all there but there but in higher definition, and by this time next year most people will have forgotten we ever changed.

Personally, I'm indifferent to the St Kilda/StKFC debate, but I'm disappointed by our choice of font. We've been selling LOTS of merch over the last decade or so with the simplified StK wordmark (see below) and I'm disappointed that we havent kept that same rounded font type. The squarer font we've used looks a bit early 2010s rather than being the timeless font that our logo needs.

On the ribbon, I'm disappointed that we've dropped the moto which I always felt was important to the St Kilda psyche. I understand the decision to overlay the ribbon, making it one piece instead of two, but again I'm not entirely thrilled by the "modernised" quasi-3d effect they've used.

Overall, I rate it a meh/10 and am just glad that they didn't completely bottle it.
