Melican was good early then faded , I don't think he will ultimately be proving me wrong

Francis seems to do one thing good then next things shit, eg great mark then kicks straight to the saints player.

Liked Campbells game, goals help, but even he goes patches where you forget he is playing.

Who honestly plays 4 good quarters for us

could probably list on one hand players who have played a solid game from start to finish this year and not gone in and out of games

Come on mate, gotta ride the good with the bad. We're dogshite just now, but better times are just around the corner... Or maybe the next street away... Or maybe the next neighbourhood over, or even across the water in NZ. Ah Christ I dunno. We're pathetic right now

Not with the team at all becoming disillusioned with the league in general.

I dropped NRL back in the late 90's for the same thing.

Shithouse.

I understand the need for optimism but IMO people have been giving themselves reason to believe we're better than what we are, when in fact those reasons keep growing and are the reason we lose. IF only we kicked straighter in this game. IF only our defensive stoppages were better in that game. IF only (insert name) wasn't injured in this game. Rinse and repeat every week (besides the Cats game, which I think we all agreed was an unmitigated disaster.) No team in the top eight is perfect. Geelong would've been in their autopsy threads last year lamenting certain weaknesses in their game. End of the day if you play well enough then those lapses don't cost you.

They cost us because we aren't that good. We play ten minutes of good footy and then drop off significantly. We lack discipline. Our manning up is non-existent, our tackling pathetic. And we've built a game plan around skills that we don't have as soon as pressure is applied.

I thought the midfield looked good but was overrun throughout the game by a harder, more seasoned Saints midfield.

Season's done IMO. This is a rut that is gonna take some time to get out of, and time is not on our side at 5-7, sitting twelfth on the ladder and bound to drop lower.
But how good was seeing Swans Number 29 in the guts?

Results are aside for me anyway after the Port game we sort of knew it wasn’t going to be our year.

Positives

Sheldrick- 19 possessions and a bucket of clearances, he belongs. Leave him in as an inside mid the rest of the year

Campbell- that’s more like it coming of age game for him

Negatives

The sub- which dumb plonk decided a tall as a sub on a wet dewy night was a good idea. Beyond dumb.

I don't get the love of Campbell's game. There was a ten minute patch in the third where he banged it to no one without looking about seven times.

I understand every player was doing that tonight but he kept doing it over and over which made it that much more unhelpful. Got to a point where I started to hope the ball wouldn't go to him.

(I was very glad the ball was in his hands when he was having his shot in the 4th though...)

Streaker eligable for votes?

I mean wasn't completely nude, but he outrun multiple chasers , good evasion, great leap over a fence

He escaped down the tunnel. Probably the highlight of the night. It's funny how a streaker who is clearly tanked & wearing shit shoes can maintain his balance while half our sides slips over every 30 seconds...

They need to train at night under dewy conditions. You're a professional player, you train whenever you're told. Our skills and performance in night games has been shit.

Priority now has to 100% be on development and working out how to improve all these talented kids on our list. We have the core of a premiership team in the making and need to take advantage of it. If that means making harsh calls then so be it.

On a serious note I firmly believe players often slipping is a mental thing. They unconsciously decide to go down because it gives them an out.

That's my theory anyway

Bottom line is the saints pressure and defensive structure were too good and we couldn't do anything to combat it.

Such a shite side post clearance we are, had no run and carry, no transition, where has our ball movement gone? Contested game was good but faded, lacked some consistent ball winners around the ground. Erratic disposals again, keen for the graveyard timeslots next year so we don't have to face the dew. Another horrific 4th quarter, our clearance game and hard work all out the window give up the i50 surge and lose.

At his stage of his career, with his talent on his money....heeney ought to downright ashamed of himself

my feeling about this season is as follows:

early on I said heeney should be paying some of his salary to Warner because he was carrying heeney

the. I said Warner should be paying blakey some of his money because he’s carrying Warner

tonight it was florent carrying all three.

the reality is that all of our better players have been going south rapidly. and they’re e the ones actually playing. I’m remain mystified by the match committees willingness to keep playing guys who simply are so down on form and then chuck out the 21st and 22nd player every time they arent perfect. Mcinerney and stephens have been the scapegoats this season for the complete failings of the prime movers.mcinerney and stephens mightn’t have done particulalry well - thought I Mac tonight was awful - slow poor awareness and poor disposal. But the truth is that is so widespread in this team it’s just pointless to isolate individuals

At least he wasn’t as dumbly as most and showed the rest of them how to kick a goal

Campbell was the only one with enough sense to thump it deep out of trouble on a number of occasions. He's rapidly becoming one of our most dependable.

maybe the talented kids we have all banged on about, basically since the pandemic are actually not that great as a collective.

Starting to feel I have overrated players
When they had Parker and JPK to fall back on to do the hard yards, letting the kids run and attack was awesome. Think of how many Warner slotted from 55m on the run in the last two years and then look at this season from him.

Night and day when he has to be accountable at the contest

Edit; I feel like most of my posts on here are just pining for JPK

:(

This season has just been so frustrating. Every game we pretty much cop injuries, not saying we win if Blakey wasnt injured but was a pretty big loss. Our skills have been horrendous all year. I have just been waiting for things to click because I think we have the talent but it just ain't happening. Umpiring is crap, like really crap. All in all this season can just piss off.
