Re: The Trade Thread

Unbelievable. We just can't take a trick, can we?

If Walsh goes to Sydney, the collective St Kilda supporter dummy will be well and truly SPAT.

And rightly so.

Re: The Trade Thread

Lyon's stubborn recalcitrance just cost us a fortune, right there. If he'd just played Walsh a few times, when he had every opportunity to (the GC game, for heavens' sake!), then Walsh would feel more secure that he wasn't going to languish getting best-on-grounds at Sandy for no reward. Now, instead of him wanting to stay because he's been honoured for his hard work, we've got to make him stay with cold hard cash. He's gone from being a cheaper newbie off the rookie list, to being an expensive-yet-untired full-forward.

Ross, Ross, Ross... thanks for that. Did I mention that Lyon would have already known by the GC game that he was leaving anyway? :(

Re: The Trade Thread

Rossy not giving him a game isn't an excuse for mine. If we give him the guarantee of games next year, and he still decides to leave, I don't think I'd ever be able to forgive him.

Joke?

We get a guy who is elite in his chosen sport across from overseas, beating other clubs in the process, say he's equivalent to a first round draft pick, give him 18 months of development to a point where he's pushing AFL selection, and then just name him an an emergency a few times whilst saying how close he was?

Walsh wants to play at the top level. That's his stated ambition. So if there is another club who is saying they have an AFL role mapped out for him, and we've kept him out of the side for 2 months and don't have a coach yet, you think he should swat away offers out of loyalty?

I may have just got up and got a little carried away with the thought we might lose him...

I agree with that point, but I would hope that if he was to go to another club, he would at least allow us to get some value out of him. I could understand if he wanted to leave, but I don't want another Ball situation, and I would hope that he would have the club's interests at least in his mind and would be willing to at least benefit from the time we have spent on him.

In hindsight, the comment should have been...

"Rossy not giving him a game isn't an excuse for mine. If we give him the guarantee of games next year, and he still decides to leave the club without allowing us to at least be compensated for his loss, I don't think I'd ever be able to forgive him."

Maybe I was being a little rash.

TradeWeekRadio was just saying that Walsh will be off to Sydney.

Re: The Trade Thread

why does trade week radio not work for me

it only works for me in internet explorer, otherwise it loads the layer and just doesn't load. I assume it's sme manner of telstra / bigpond screw up as that stuff has always had problems in other browsers.

Re: The Trade Thread

If we trade or lose Walsh I will be extremely annoyed. We've given him plenty of development and by all rights he should be ready to go for next season. Would be a perfect fit for either our forwardline or backline, but of course I would prefer him up forward.

If he does leave it better be because we are picking up Fev, otherwise we are right royally boned next year.

Re: The Trade Thread

I've been listening to TWR today, but I think I missed that bit.

What exactly did they say? What do they think is in it for us?

They only went live at 12pm, the rest of day it had been replays..

Basically said Sydney are right into him. Marty Pasc who is player manager of few Saints boys, not sure id Walsh inc, but they reckon Saints would have to work out what pick they'd want. They did mention Jesse White but for salary cap reasons it could be long shot... But from listening to them i got fair impression that he is as good as gone. They must be throwing fair amount of $$$ at TW.

It works for me in Firefox...

On the topic, us guys on the Sydney boards are equally outraged that the club could even consider trading out Johnston. There seems no rhyme or reason for it and as a contacted player (he signed a 2-year deal about 3 months ago), we can't understand even thinking about it for Armstrong. I don't mind Armstrong and I'll be happy if/when he lands in Sydney, but he is out of contract and has stated widely he wants to go to Sydney, so he should be an easy get for us in the pre-season draft.

I guess the bad news for you guys, is if they are into Walsh, then that sort of makes sense why Johnston is in the mix to trade. Maybe you need to hope Adelaide and Sydney can't get that deal over the line.

Good luck anyway, I'm more than happy to keep LJ and hope you guys have luck with Walsh...

I didn't get that impression at all. Pask said Sydney wanted him (and presented a high dollar offer), but that's presumed knowledge at this stage. He gave no indication of Walsh's willingness or even the Saints. He just assumed you guys would be going along with it.

I'm with Triple B though. I wish Adelaide would just **** off, we keep LJ, you keep Walsh, and we'd all be happy. :(

I would't mind a draft pick upgrade, ( 2nd +Walsh for first ) but I'd still be pissed off if we had to do it, and Sydney have committed their first pick for Tom Mitchell.

All the while blokes like Gamble, who seems like he couldn't really give a stuff about anything, really, are trotting around the park.

Arrrggg.

Re: The Trade Thread

I don't blame him for wanting to move. I really don't.

But god damn this is bad news all round. For one our KP stocks are already dire. And two, the compensation we'd get would be complete horseshit.

If it comes down to it and he walks we've got 3 selections before Sydney's first plus a PSD before them as well. But i believe that's really unfair to Tommy if we took him against his will, when he's just trying to persue game time and better money. The exact reasons why he came out to Australia in the first place.

Get a new coach into his ear, sign him on a 1 year deal, and let him reassess. Ross gone = new begginings.
