what has been the hold up? has there been an offer infront of him that he is not wanting to sign? or is carlton waiting longer to make an offer?
Is there a hold up? He's still got 12 months left on his contract. Not to mention we've been busy re-signing Curnow and McKay on mega deals the last few months.

He’ll be an upgrade on Esava and whilst he improved in the ruck as time went on, he still lacks the ruck smarts. Ruckmen do seem to take extra time to come on and hopefully 2023 is a proper breakout year. That said, even with the no. 1 gig on a platter, I’ve got my money on him leaving for the Cats.

As do I, not too fussed in all honesty though as long as we can get adequate compensation. Think it's easy to get a stop gap ruck and with the currency TDK would have at the trade table we would be able to address other needs on the list with the excess cap space and picks we'd get

There are few on the Saints board keen on this lad but I don’t see it being worth the cost.

I think we need a genuine key forward to match up with King and I don’t see De Koning ever being a huge threat in the forward line. More of a ruck that can rest forward.

Big year for the kid. He has shown a bit of potential but needs to put it all together.

The only thing that doesnt line up with him going to geelong is money. I dont see him leaving unless he isnt playing 1s for us and/or the team chasing his offers way overs in terms of dollars.

While I could see some teams offering him a big contract on potential Geelong have never done that.

If he isn't playing ones then I don't think it's going to take big money to get him.

Geelong just did that with Jack Bowes, although to be fair, they got a top 7 pick as a 'sweetner' :)

The Cats do seem more keen on bringing local lads home from around the Greater Geelong/Corio region than ever before and it seems to working.

We will take their 2023 first round pick for TDK and everyone goes home happy :)

You do realise he's from Safety Beach...

Surely it's all about opportunity with him? Do Carlton fans have him best 22 starting forward and giving Pittonet a chop out? Pittonet is a good handy ruck (honestly arguably the perfect ruck for a list if you dont think a top level ruck is worth the money) but at 24, if he's not pushing a Pittonet out, is he worth more than a Meek?

If fwd / ruck is his best position, he has a career total of 12 goals...

Feels like a player a club isnt going to pay overs for when out of contract and Carlton wouldnt get what he's worth on potential. Value both in money and picks could change wildly between now and the end of season anyway

I think it'll be more likely it'll be our 2024 first, IMO - as that could be much higher given the likely 'retool on the run' that we'll do again like we did in 2015 when Danger came across. We fought tooth and nail to keep our 2023 first. Whether that be for TDK or just because the '23 draft is so strong, remains to be seen - but I can definitely see you guys wanting the 2024 one more anyway, if that's what it comes down to.

I think it's more that his parents have moved up there and his brother is there - and they all spend a lot of time up there -, so 'home' is now around Geelong rather than where they're originally from.

Definitely spot on about him not being from Geelong way originally though.

If we think he's structurally worth it, he'll get a decent pay day. It won't be off the charts like other clubs, but it could still be around the 600K mark if he has a decent year. His brother will likely end up on the same too. We'll have a lot of cash to throw around as Hawk, Smith, Tuohy, Stanley, Rohan etc. all likely to retire end of this year. Then Danger and Duncan the following year. Will just depend on how much he commands on the open market.

You are right though, we won't make the same sort of crazy offers that a Essendon, St Kilda, North etc. might make. Will all come down to opportunity this year/performance. If he has another year like this year, he won't get the same sort of offers but still could be decent - and may only attract offers from you guys and from us. If he has a 'breakout' year, he could command a decent pay day, and might go somewhere else instead of coming down to Geelong or staying put. All depends, and will be very interesting to see what decision he ultimately ends up making/what opportunity he's given/how he performs this year.

he’s not a forwards arse hole.

He is an athletic ruck who can take good marks, but he is all highlights and no fundamentals.

The fact he can’t even get a bog average ruckman like Pittonet out of the team says it all.

Age is on his side, but he’d want to improve if he wants to be a #1 ruckman.

Harsh but similar critique to mine haha. If he's not a good forward and he cant push Pittonet out of the first position by the end of the year then getting a first round pick feels optimistic to me but Geelong fans seem perfectly happy with that.

We will have the cap room to offer him big $ but i agree we wont do it its not our way. If he does come to us it will be for less than other vic clubs offer him.

Depends on what the pick no is. If its top 10 in this draft no way. If its around 20 like it was with bruhn i could be ok with it. That said while we will need a mature ruck this trade period there are cheaper options than tdk currently on afl lists that i would rather we go after.

Carlton have the Camporeale twins coming through in 2024. Lucas in particular looks like a high level prospect.

We would certainly want the Cats 2023 pick however if Tom has another season similar to 2022 (behind Pittonet, showing little up forward) it’s hard to see him being worth that much OOC.

I can't help but he is being overvalued by some (including Carlton fans) partly because of his very impressive younger brother.

agree with this, i think carlton would prefer to keep him but wont be too disappointed if he leaves for something good. the more hype on this guy the better for carlton.

Tom will either have a break out year, establish himself as our #1 ruck and then be worth almost as much as Kane Cornes is spruiking... but if at the end of the year we still dont know if he is a ruck or a forward, or is just a straight out forward then Carlton would be best to trade him.
