Antoni Grover - Tough as nails in defence playing on the Gehrig types, often starting wrestles with them, etc...

and gets his arse kicked the majority of the time. wrestling with gehrig...you might aswel ask him to kick a bag on you. didnt he kick 8 or something on him at the TD?

Nope, but he did give away a 150m (3x50m) penalty to Grover which resulted in a Freo goal, after he lost control from the torment. I have never seen Grover bitched by any player in the competition, despite playing on the big fellahs.

I have never seen Lloyd deviate from a contest, he is pretty hard at it.

He does'nt deviate from contests he dives from them. You cannot have serial divers in your toughest 5 it aint right and you are really struggling if you have to include them. He is a shocker any touch and he dives like superman.

I rate S. Johnson highly, very highly, but wouldn't think he'd be in the toughest 5 at Geelong. Ling?

D Johnson before S Johnson I reckon

For the cats; Rooke, Mooney, Chapman, Bartel and Stokes.

Top 5 - Chapman, Rooke, Mooney, Bartel, Milburn

Others in consideration - Corey, Stokes, David Johnson, Lingy

When S Johnson hits 'em, they stay hit. However on further consideration, i'd have Rooke in ahead of him.

Lonergan has to be in any Geelong list. Any bloke when can come back and achieve what he has after his injury is one tough bastard.

I was actually being sarcastic with the whelan call because the guy who nominated him is called whelan but in regards to the youtube video, what was so tough about that particular incident?
It would be a very weak effort to pull out of that sort of contest and the vast majority of AFL players would have commited themselves to that sort of contest. Honestly, how many players would pull out from that sort of contest? What % of them would role around on the floor crying is a different question altogether.

Looking at other people lists, it seems Freo are one of the toughest teams, even after losing the almighty Troy Cook.

Dean Solomon - One of the toughest in the league. A forward line enforcer of sorts.
Josh Carr - Only need to look as far as the last derby when he practically bashed both Kerr and Cousins.
Antoni Grover - Tough as nails in defence playing on the Gehrig types, often starting wrestles with them, etc...
Shaun McManus - Has never taken a backward step. Knocked out by Wirra a few years ago, but got back up to kick a goal from 50m along the boundary.
Matthew Pavlich - Although a nice guy, has never been nervous in a contest.

Others:

Peter Bell - Never ducked his head in a contest, though small.
Ryan Crowley - Had Woosha out of all people barging into the Freo coaches box to complain about Crowley playing too hard.
Matt Carr - Like his brother, he is as physical as they come anddoesn't mind a bit of the biff.
Brock O'Brien - Fast becoming a cult figure at the port for his toughness, despite his age.
Mark Johnson - Hasn't played a game for the club and might never do, but his toughness is a well known trait.
Dodd - Must run in the family. Not a big guy, but he's a scrapper.
Campbell - Although he hasn't played much, he is a bullocking bowling ball that had no problem slamming into Glass and splitting his head open last year.

So many tough players yet Freo still have a rep of being a soft team, interesting that.

What is also interesting is that your coach has recently hired someone to teach all of these tough guys how to tackle. :thumbsu:

Looking at these lists we seem to have not so many tough dudes however

NutBar Wise
King, Gehrig, Baker, Max are the saints Nutters if you like. Still hoping Gardiner gets off his arse cause he could be another.

Courage Wise
Maguire (broken leg and worst head clash in AFL history and STILL will go for it in 2008) Hayes, Luke Ball, Kosi and Reiwoldt are the most courageous players in AFL. None moreso, yes there are many equal but none moreso.

James Hird would have something to say about that.

When was the last time we were labelled soft? What inofrmatuion do you build your false perception on? Certainly not our tribunal record for 07...

The tackling expert could just as likely be teaching us how to tackle without giving away free kicks for all you know.

BTW, thanks for giving us Solomon and Johnson for next to nothing. No thanks for Kepler.
