RE I have serious reservation about Pickett's long term health and durability.
The medical would need to be a glowing report as from memory hasn't he got serious foot issues.
He will only ever been a small mid as he dose not have the hunger for midfield duties.

If the cost was low I guess why not but again the medical would need to be good.

Just edited my post as I checked Pickett has a Lisfranc Injury ( One or more of the metatarsal bones are displaced from the tarsus ).
Its a pretty serious injury its what Dane Swan injured and prompted his retirement as it often doesn't heal sufficiently to play sport at the same level again. :(
What chance do you think the cost will be low? There is more on offer this year through to pick 50 for me so it would need to be a bargain basement for me.

swan Districts Griffen Logue put in a stunning beep test at the combine today.

15.2 for a guy 193 cm and 92 kg is super impressive.

He is a riser and I know that he is garnering a lot of interest, he wont make it out of the first round and may well be already gone by the time we take our first pick.

I expect the negotiations on the player's share of the money will have a hard link to the clubs being able to sell the players to a new club of the old club's choice. If the players want to be draining more out of the pot - then they better start earning it. We cannot have it where players are selectively picking the benefits without wearing some of the pain.
The way players are nominating which club they want to go to its a version of FA only that a trade has to be done for that to happen. Clubs will generally see the trade done but the old club is at a significant disadvantage in negotiations because they can't trade the player to another club offering a better trade without the players consent

It would be good to see the old club being able to trade a player somewhere else if they can get a better trade provided the 3rd club matches or betters the contract offer from the players preferred destination. Evens up the negotiating positions and doesn't allow a club to trade a player who isn't seeking to leave

Asterix after having read up on his injury, I dont really want to take a punt.

Its a bit of a double edged sword because if GWS were to give him away cheap it would reinforce my suspicions that his medical report is bad...really bad.
If GWS put a high price on his head I simply would not take the risk.

We have taken two hits of late Cavka and A Waterman.

Unless you can arrange for your fellow Gaul Getafix to arrange a special potion to ensure that Pickett foot comes good I would be passing on Pickett. ;)

Interesting, is he capable as an inside mid or is he purely outside? What's his disposal like as well?

Petrie > Cox > Hackdorn

He played at least one game late in the season for Swans Colts as a midfielder and apparently did well.
I didn't see the game but some other posters may be able to shed more light on the matter.

what position is he looked at for?

Sorry read future. Good size for a mid if he can further develop his endurance with age and training.

dare I ask what is skills and ability are like?

what position is he looked at for?

Currently in the WAFL for Swans he is a defender that can play on both talls and smalls he is pretty quick for his size.
He was used in a variety of roles by WA in the championships from Ruck to KPP so he has some versatility to his game.

Just where he would play at AFL is the moot point and his performances as a mid have got the recruiter attention as they need to make the assessment if that form and ability can transfer to the next level. Obviously the beep test score suggests that he has the tank to play midfield ...... does he possess the skills and smarts to play as a midfielder .... thats the question.
One thing I will say about him is that he does play with a bit of a hard arse edge to his game, he is no wall flower thats for sure.

Something like that. SPP still a good chance to be there at 23 from what I've read although ideally you'd want a pick under 20 to be certain

The trade depends a lot on how determined we are to take SPP at 12 if that is in fact the case - if he's who we've locked in on then trading down a few spots and getting another pick around 30 as a result is not a bad idea. Basically like the sheed trade.

Depends on how highly the club rates other kids potentially available at 12 in comparison to the pepper shaker
I think it is a terrible idea.

Our first round picks have been ok recently, with Duggan and Sheed, however we will regret it very quickly if WC downgrade and fail to strike with both picks. Not just WC, but most clubs have middling success with mid to late 20's picks. Now lets imagine Redden fails to improve and Partington does not reach the standard of Lovell, Tucker, Collins, Dunkley or Cunningham. That is two years of poor returns with our first.

So much risk, for mediocre reward. At least pick 12 is a reasonable liklihood to be a very good mid, in a strong draft full of quality in the first. There are a couple of late bolters, so every chance to get a kid rated 5-10 at pick 12.

Darling is one of the best players at WCE, from WA and obviously wants to stay in Perth. Why is this thread always discussing trading him.

This is an easy off season. Keep all the draft picks and pick up the father sons and best available. WCE already traded in two midfield players last season.
I actually agree. If Mitchell considered WC, then trade, otherwise why trade out good players, for speculative picks unless we can be guaranteed an amazing deal.

I like it
12 + 31 for Pickett, 16 and 32?

Hopefully get 3rd rnd compo for brown.

In Pickett, 16 (SPP), 32, 3rd rnd (waterman), 3rd rnd compo, 4th rnd (ballabtyne, tho I rather not)

So GWS trade Pickett for a 4 pick upgrade in the 1st round and a 1 pick upgrade in the 2nd?

So this foot injury he has, is the foot still attached?

Because if they accepted that deal I'd be checking on that.o_O

I've said it before but that 2014 draft has been a disaster for GWS but they're the only club that could afford to burn 3 top 10 picks in one draft

Pickett and Ahern both have serious long term injuries whilst Marchbank has asked to be traded after 2 years

Would be crippling for any other club but nothing but a small blip for the giants
The club we should be circling if we are going to trade. They have two extra list spots, but the same salary cap as other clubs. They have very good academy prospects this year, quite a few picks, buuuuuuut need to shave players and/or picks.

I'm not exactly sure how the revised points system works, however can they simply amass second rounders/late first rounders for points, or does the number of picks they take into the draft have to reflect their list constrictions. Depending on how many points they need, they might bundle some generous selections, as long as they have the desired points.

Though WC don't seem that creative. Either downgrade or make generous trades if pushed, or hold onto picks. It should be the second unless a great deal is on offer. Someone like Mitchell might put us in premiership contention, otherwise don't overrate the list. Improve draft position, or don't trade out our first par a silly good deal.

Because people seem to want AFL to turn into the English Premier league, big sexy shiny new signings and crazy money thrown around.

Judd couldn't kick either and nether can Dangerfield, Fyfe or Martin. They can however win their own ball, have explosive pace, can break tackles and handball to advantage and whilst not being overly accurate, can kick with penetration. From the small snippets I've seen of SPP he is able to also do this. Priddis is slow and can't kick over 40m. Great in and under player and a tackling machine who can win his own ball but has far more limitations to his game than SPP potentially has.

I'm happy to pull the trigger at 12 on SPP.

I'd also like to use 12 like we did with pick 6 and Sheed. Somehow drop down to later in the 1st round and pick up a 2nd rounder as well.

SPP I can see still being available with a late 1st rounder.

There is a feeling of fantasy footy/footy manager type attitude to some of the posts. Accumulating late first, early second round picks would be good in this draft, but WC has no currency to do so.

McKenzie will stay probably. If he doesn't, then looking to bundle two second round picks for better draft position with a club targeting academy kids may be good. But will McKenzie go? Club is more likely to promise him games ahead of Barrass. Also, Brown will net us very little of value since his salary will be low. In fact, the club may just be fine with him off the books.

He never ceases to amaze me,the 33 yo that hasn't rucked for some time and looked pretty burnt out later in the year surely there are better options for what we have heard and you'd think Hagdorn has heard about them as well ,to me you'd go after the best you can get ,you never know how NN will come back from his injury
