Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Makes my blood boil every time I see norths draft hand comparative to our own knowing we went into this with a superior position to them yet due to AFL ery north are now taking 5 first rounders. What a ****** disgrace of an assistance package.

I can guarantee you the media commentary next year will be west coast still bad should have split pick one, needed more talent expecting us to sacrifice elite talent in a system where Gold Coast and North are getting free hits at first rounders on top of their existing picks despite being better than us.

End rant.
It's a good rant which is spot on. Technically it was 7 first rounders, as they traded two last year.

How is Sanders sliding so far? Overtaken by Leake and Windsor? I think he's one of the best 5 players in the draft (Reid, Walter, McKercher, Sanders, Read). Someone's getting a bargain there.

Sanders likely goes to the Bulldogs at 5

I like the idea of gambling the pick on Curtin.
So do I, if only to see the epic meltdowns it will produce.
I'm first to admit I am not a draft or underage footy watcher but I can see the midfield potential in Curtin. Admittedly I dont think it is a strong likelihood of him making it as a midfielder but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. Think he will be more a Hunter type than a Bont type at AFL level which would still be a decent outcome.

Have no problem with the club using the F1 on Curtin if they rate him high enough, it's the sort of gutsy, back-yourself type call that we like and that has served our club well in good times. Yes it could backfire but there is every chance we rate Curtin as much as we would rate anyone available to the open pool next year. Any pick or trade in any draft can backfire - it's all a balance of risks and this one, if it happens, seems okay.

If we weren’t obsessed with Curtin, we wouldn’t be offering a F1 for him.

Also, the Melbourne recruitment guys said they are holding out hope. Where did he say it wasn’t happening?
I hope to win a million bucks, not going to happen any time soon.

They way Melbourne were talking, they already know who they want to pick. The comment about holding out 'hope' was in regards to Twomey asking him about the offer presented to Reid and that WCE hadn't 'officially' said they weren't taking it.

Also, if they were obsessed over Curtin, they'd give up Reid for him with one of the other offers The fact they would rather use next year's first for Curtin says they rate Reid higher and perhaps have reservations over next year's midfield crop for any number of reasons.

Or, as has been mentioned, trading in a F1st might allow WCE to snag both Curtin and Collard, if that's the intention.

Well if we start 0-5 or 0-6 then you won’t have long to wait.

Also implies a straight swap, F1 for 7 (Curtin)

Which will no doubt delight this board
No it doesn't. It says we will use our first round pick to trade with GWS. It says nothing about the full trade. It could be just our future first but in my experience with the HUN, they never fill in the other details. Such as "player ABC cost 2 x R1" but they never add to it "with 2 x R2 coming back".

So the Vic media have gone from "Eagles to use pick 1 on Curtin" to "Eagles not confident in taking Harley at 1" to "those greedy bastards over in the wild west thinking they can have their cake and eat it too". The article is typical HUN that is a headline grabber and incomplete.

There is a strong feeling that Curtin will slide and that clubs will do not know how or where to play him. I would say that the more the Eagles List Committee look at Curtin and do their due diligence, the more they want both him and Harley.

Why? I am in the opposite camp of dinnaz. I have been holding back for a week or so as his/her posts fly hard in the face of what I believe, what a number of WCE posters who I respect believe, what the general feeling on talent watchers on BF who go to games believe, and what my connections in Melbourne are believing, and what I am hearing from connections of at least 2 other clubs believe.

The last 2 times there has been this feeling of uncertainty like Curtin was with the Bont and Curnow as they were not sure whether they were oversized flankers or something else.

Curtin has played the CHB role where he just reads the play - similar to what Lever did in his U17 year (he was out with an ACL in his U18 year).
Curtin has played the distributor from defence role like Birchell because he reads the play and knows where to deliver it to and has very good D/E.
Curtin has played the lock down KPD at times and was probably only second behind Murphy in the players doing that role in U18.
Curtin has played the Bont extractor from midfield role.
Curtin has played the switch him forward like Weitering played.
I can go on.

The comparisons I come up with are that we do not know whether Curtin is a Birchell, a Lever, A Bont, a Weitering or a Curnow. And I have seen him play live in all bar the Port Ressies v Academy games which I managed to only watch on TV.

Curtin has played for 4 different teams this year - Claremont Colts, Claremont League, AFL Academy and WA U18. He captained the Colts to a flag. He won the WA MVP including playing on Walters and did a credible job considering the imbalance of the centre clearances and Allies inside 50's. He held his head in the 2 finals games for Claremont league. He played a variety of roles, was clearly carrying an injury by the end of the year and is up there in the talent statement for a very good reason. He is an excellent and high end footballer. And to top it off, he is mature, a leader and a brain on him that will make him captain material. He also lead the Scotch 1st 18 to success. In other words, good things normally happen in sides he is in.

I have no idea what the deal with GWS or Cats or Dees might be. What I do know is that he is a top end talent and we should be happy that the club is looking at the option very seriously.

Like CountryLad , Monocle , Eastcoasteagle and others have stated, this board went negative on Curtin because we did not want to lose Harley to gain Daniel. Well guess what ladies and gentlemen, the club is looking to get both to the club.

Now that should be making your partners very nervous for Monday night as if we get both, I think there will be a tightness in the trousers that might need relieving.

Been wanting a scenario of both Reid and Curtin for months. Back ourselves and go for it.

Should make it an interesting watch Monday Night

If Reid didn't exist Curtin would be a genuine pick 1 option for the Eagles.

We have a great track record of playing players only capable of playing one role (say ... inside mid) in their defined role instead of delisting them without playing them there, so I have no doubt we will be able to develop a tall first rounder with no real defined role to be a absolute weapon too. Just like that guy. And that other one.

I can't seeing it be a straight swap for 7 - In saying that, I'm a little nervous

I can't see us finishing 12th - given the last 2 years (even with a healthy list) for the straight swap

Even a F2 coming back would make me feel better.

Hopefully its F1 & 37 for 7 & 16

Maybe can then split 16 for 2 picks in the 20's?

Giving us Ried, Curtin, and the selection of 3 (Collard, Roberts, DeMattia, Hardeman, ZZ).

Amazing that this is what happened.

Now this can happen in organisations when there are widespread cuts as we saw. Staff get disillusioned and subconsciously do not do best job they can. “Not my job; well if you wanted it picked up, you shouldn’t have cut hard” sort of thing.

We have to clear out those unwilling to move forward.
Its a if your going to cut my pay by 30 % I'm going to do 30% less work .

Did it?

Where?

Should the Eagles offer up their future first-round pick for No.7 it would be a dilemma for the Giants, but ultimately an offer that rivals expect would be impossible to knock back.

The Giants would still hold a first-round pick (No.16) and trading for the Eagles’ future first could potentially deliver them the No.1 pick in next year’s draft.

Should the embattled Eagles again finish last next season it would mean that they have effectively traded away the No.1 pick in the 2024 draft for Curtin.

That sounds to me like it's our F1 for Curtin with nothing substantial (or worth mentioning) coming back. It might not be correct, but im not sure where the confusion is

6 Melbourne- Windsor
7 GWS - ????
8 Geelong - Caddy
9 Essendon - O’Sullivan

Only says GWS don’t need a KPD and they have interest in Windsor. Doesn’t say who they take if Windsor is gone to Melbourne

We’d need one of those clubs to take Leake for Curtin to get to Adelaide’s pick who may decide to take him for themselves

If the club is as keen on Curtin as they appear to be, which may or may not have any foundation, then they’ll give our F1 to the first club that bites rather than take the chance he gets to 10

We’re all just guessing
Adelaide will fall over themselves to take a future R1 from us to get Draper next year. They will be able to get another KPD with their later picks and they would be well placed with Murphy at 14, or either of Dawson or ZZ at 20.

Using the HUN scenario, forgetting bids, it could go as follows

1. Eagles - Harley
2. Norf - McKercher
3. Norf - Duursma
4. Hawks - Wizard
5. Dogs - Sanders
6. Dees - Windsor
7. GWS - Leake
8. Cats - Caddy
9. Drug Rats - O'Sullivan
10. Crows - open for business

Cats have Henry and de Koning so will be heavily tempted with Caddy

GWS have a stacked midfield already and would not draft Curtin if he was just a midfielder. They will I think their retaining Himmelberg means they have less need for a KPD.

Only real risk is if O'Sullivan is gone before Dildoro gets to pick at 9. I would not want to be dealing with this club live on Monday.

A deal with the Crows for pick 10 could look like
. F1 straight swap (highest price and worst case scenario)
. swap of F1's (best case scenario)
. F1 and 37 or 58 for 10 and 20
. F1 for 10 and a F2 (Crows have both their R2 and Dees R2)
loads of options

16 will be too high and not worth it for them

A F2 they may consider?

  • Worse case 1 for 7 & 32
  • Best case 6 for 7 & 28
  • Probable 3 for 7 & 30
Neither scream end of the world if Curtin becomes a 200 games player

I'm not unhappy about it personally, was just pointing out what the article said. At the very least it doesn't sound like anything else substantial is coming back (maybe later picks).

Alot on this board have been expecting significantly more for our F1 (rightly or wrongly)
