Club is absolutely milking the Harley Reid train atm, so many fb posts telling people to get on board as Harley did, also offering to print the number 9 to any jumper purchased

This is exactly what Norf needed, that one marquee player to draw members but they’re too stupid..

To be honest I hope the club dials it down after the next few days, just let him get stuck into his work in getting fitter and stronger.

It'll be countered soon by having other draftees to introduce. Currently it's only Reid and considering he's the best prospect in the last two years I'm all for some social media content

Monocle Are you concerned about Murphy re very bad testing at Combine?

Not as concerned as most, yes his time of 3.30 isn’t flash, however I watched how he plays and he is very difficult to play against. Even Jed Walter when asked who the best players he had played on were :
1. Curtin and 2. Murphy.
His speed on tape doesn’t scream problem to me.

Murphy is a unsexy style player as he is a complete shut down / lock down defender.
Not too many of them at 200cm.
So I wouldn’t be unhappy if we picked him, but I don’t think we will.

Shoemaker’s great when he runs straight lines, but his turning circle does worry we somewhat as does his lateral game.
Would depend what role we had in mind for him IF we wanted him to do all the kick ins that then would make some sense.
As he does have a lovely roost on that left leg. With the run out of the square and the the long kick, he becomes a 80- 90 meter option, that’s handy because where the ball lands more than often becomes a two kick option away from scoring.
That said and I don’t intend to get into the specifics on a public forum, there are a couple of red flags against his name for off field indiscretions that worry me.

For pure kicking in duties with a bit more positional versatility and much cheaper draft capital I would look at Will Patton latter.
Patton also comes with impeccable character and is a genuine leader, consummate team man.

Archer Reid is a player who annoys the shyte out of me. So talented BUT goes missing for periods in quarters and games.
At 203 cm he should be much more dominant than he is, he started the season well then had a period of about a month at the end of the season where he hardly bothered the scoreboard assistant.
I also think his lack of physicality is a major concern.

ZZ is as raw as hell and has a lot of upside ( hopefully he lasts till our / Port pick ), he is a real unknown quantity as to just what the ceiling is ) also love that he has some real mongrel in the way he plays.
Would love him on our list and IMO I would take the punt on him.

Deep at the back end of the draft are some good tall options, if we went full on smalls earlier tonight:
Weatherill, Visentini ( fifth best ruck in the cohort - gets possessions around the ground too ), Fawcett.

As for smalls there are a few more to pick from, so I am ok with the options available in the next 10 picks.

Also some very skill full players at the back end of the draft: Kade De La Rue and Luke Lloyd to name a few.

Just some thoughts.

Whateley actually has a valid point for a change as he (and some other media) have seen the absurdity of a 29 pick first round

I posted before about this being the upside of all the bids coming in the first round as it would highlight what a farce it’s become

Doesn’t help us this year but it should be the catalyst for change

Issue with Murphy's speed is that he's going to play on blokes like the King twins, who are lightening quick - its hard to see him matching them (on paper at least). I think if you are going to be a lock down type you need speed. You can be slow if you will slope off and intercept like Gov.

Ditto it was more id like a hint as it has been all so vague.

I wanted Harley Reid a few weeks ago, but when I look at what we offered for him (McKercher, 15/18 (Goad; Dawson/Hardeman)), I'd have been furious at the club in retrospect if you'd accepted. Much prefer what we ended up with to Reid, who at the end of the day, is just one person (with an inhuman amount of pressure on his shoulders).

Would like to get a WA boy, at least one. Sanchez is my pick and has been for a while.
If, as has been mentioned on the board a few times, NoLong does move into a bit of a midfield role with his smarts and quick disposal then it opens up a spot in the fwd area. Also Crippa doesn't have too long to go so we will be needing someone with leg speed up there.
Another good outcome would be to swoop in and grab him before the mob down the road do, meaning we will need to use 30.
Still a few good names on the board of a developing KPP so with only 10 picks between our next 2 picks we could still get someone good.
