Looks like he has a lot of potential, great height and very long arms, backs himself and does some really nice cut throughs. Kicking is a bit off but can tidy it up. Reminds me a bit of Sheppard with a bit more dare/dash.

Yeah doesn't seem to be bad in a contested situation too. Looks like a quality lead up HFF/wing prospect, maybe a bit like Powell though not as good a kick. Mind you I think his kicking is still pretty good, he can certainly roost it. Good hands too.

I think Parsons is more the type of player many expected Lamb to be. More that genuine tall wing/mid type with weapons, as opposed to Lamb who is probably going to be a key forward IMO.

James Parsons (24)

Eastern Ranges/Norwood

Height: 189cm

Weight: 85kg

Parsons is not a huge ball winner, but what he does with it is deadly. He’s one of the best kicks in this draft class. He plays through half forward, but clubs may see him as a big bodied midfielder in the future.

"NAB AFL Academy member who has elite speed and his long kicking is a feature of his game. His performance against Vic Country in game one was the highlight of his five matches at the NAB AFL U18 Championships."

He's only 17, looked it in the U18 Champs vid. Could be the Duggan of last year.

27: Cuningham
36: Parsons

There's your risk/reward

Yes :thumbsu:

All the profiles I've read, like this one, make no mention of kicking deficiencies.
I'm just saying, every year glittering profiles come out for so many players. A lot of it is overkill, and most of it recycled opinions.

Haven't seen much of the kid, but he is too short imo, it's that much harder to make it at that height unless you're a freak talent.

Wow looks like a completely different player now.

Would love him in the forward line just for his speed, agility and forward pressure.

He's now in good shape!!
What the hell did he look like before?
Some on here are critical of Waterman's physic ...... This guy looks much worse to me.

It annoys me how people get blinded by the size of the player.
He looks to be a pretty solid mark, especially for someone his size.
I think too much is made of height sometimes...If you can football, you can football.

Greg Clark looks like a prototype modern footballer, I know who I'd pick every day of the week and then some.

He reminds me a bit of a young Kerr but better overhead. (for mine the vision is excellent, hands aren't in the same league but shows a lot of potential)

I like Skippos videos because it shows every involvement not just a highlights reel like the AFL site.
Still very impressive IMO.

I'll check the video, those highlighted traits were Ash Smith at one time...

Wouldn't say Kerr, more a short Josh Hunt. He doesn't have the burst or speed Kerr had. Problem I see from that video is he seems "stumpy" (i.e. short arms and legs on torso) and he didn't seem to show great handball vision like a Luke Dunston in that vid. If he has that ability he'll be fine, but otherwise he may struggle to break away like he was doing against NT.

I'd probably take an Ash Smith at our second pick this year.

Each draft you can probably realistically aim to nab one player who will stay in your best 22 for a reasonably long time (if you ask me, we will probably end up with 2 from 2014 which was considered a great draft for us). In a year where we have to some extent traded out of the draft, and where the talent pool is unprecedentedly shallow, I would be comfortable getting someone who plays 45 games to a reasonable level as our second pick.

Smith for the most part was good while he was in the side for his 45 games, it's just that he fell off a cliff when he wasn't, and never recovered. If pick 27 this year gets us an 100 game player (I just saw a phantom which gave us Hibberd, yes pls) and pick 36 plays 50 games, then I think we have done well against our past drafting performance.

Pick 36 could also turn out to be a dud that gets delisted in a year or two.

Ahhhhh - You're forgetting a little someone called "ADAM SIMPSON"

The Midas of AFL coaches. Watch him polish some turds!!

I thought he looked a lot quicker than Hunt.
Seem to have nice running patterns and a feel for the game forward of the ball too.

May have to agree to disagree on this one...It's a wait and see.

Smith didn't play many above average games for me.

I'd much rather have a shot at a genuine talent and fail than land a shit list clogger who was quick on paper and softer than butter.

Our second pick still has potential diamonds.

Yes he certainly won that game for Tas against NT. Rioli was probably next best in that game. Kieran is also related to Andy so there is a family link back to WCE. I'm sure he on our recruiters' list to consider.

He'd be great on our rookie list as he looks pretty versatile but needs a lot of development.

Like the thinking but not sure this makes sense mathematically. If only one player per draft ended up in your B22 then it would take 22 years just to create/rotate that B22. I think you might find the average career of a footballer would be less than half of that so it would be unachievable. Suspect you really want 2 (and sometimes 3) of your draftees to eventually be in your B22 or at least for them to have enough currency to trade for other players to balance your list out. Some players/positions take time to develop. And if we delisted everyone who started out being defined as a spud we probably wouldn't have a number of our best ever players (eg Glass).

Joking around aside I personally don't believe in the concept of AFL spuds. I think any player that has managed to get on an AFL list has obviously shown some serious potential. Many of them will realise this potential, others won't, some will do it sooner than others, but there are countless variables that determine all this and not all of it is under the control of the individual player - coaching, filling a position that not well suited to, injuries, team and culture fit etc. West Coast is in a great position to foster talent because it has a great development coach (look at Gov), good hard-working role-models (eg Priddis), a team first mentality (hence the 'web') and a professional sporting environment (strong Board with great financial prowess).

I actually don't rate Clark at all.

Kieran Lovell looks like he could be anything . Very impressive game . would love him at our club

So with our 3rd pick 50ish we should draft Adams .
Would much rather have Adams sitting in the wafl for the next 5 years as back up KPD like silvani from freo than pay brown $400000 a year to do the same thing .

After next season we should just take the FA compo we get for brown in a stronger draft (pick in 30's) and give opportunity to barrass who looks a real talent .

Adams will be a serviceable back up from day one and may develop into a solid KPD .

Based just on watching his U18 championships performances I'd agree but it wasn't a good reflection of his potential. I think most of the taller 18yo's also take a bit longer to develop in to their bodies and start out looking a bit awkward. Remember watching one of Fyfe's U18 games and many not rating him that highly from it but he developed extremely quickly once in an AFL environment.
