The more trade week gets closer the more I feel that we will be getting pick 13 from West Coast for Baker, pick 6 & 26 from Gold Coast for Rioli (I've read we want more than just pick 6) and picks 9 & 16 for Bolton. (I'll be pissed at this one because to me pick 9 & 10 is shit)

Do i think Bolton is worth more than that? Absolutely, I feel it needs to be pick 5, do I feel we will get a little bit overs for Rioli? Yep. West Coast fans will melt about pick 13 but they still have pick 3 if they choose to split it.

We will have picks 1,6,9,16,21,26,29,39,41,47. (Not including Graham compo if he leaves)

What we do with those picks is unknown, do we make a play for the 2nd or 3rd pick? do we make a play for Brisbane's pick 17/18 (starting to think we won't need it unless we can move on some of our really late picks), or do we try and move some picks into next year for an extra 1st rounder?

Whatever happens, it's going to be a fun watch but at times I'm sure stress levels will increase when the rumours start flying.

toces sitting on the eggs warming them and theyre gonna start flying out in 4 weeks or so from now
Clubs will be scrambling for our early 2nd rnd picks.
We should play hard boiled and come out with the bacon.
(I'll see myself out)

They just wanna win every trade like us!!
Baker for 13 is pretty fair, considering it will be pick 15/16 come draft night. Chuck in a future 3rd rounder to make it look like they won the trade.

Pick 9 + another 1st rounder is minimum for Bolton. We don’t have to trade him if the teams chasing won’t give up fair value.
Calm down… deals are done

Rioli -> picks 6 & 12
Bolton -> picks 9 & 10

Baker & pick 12 -> pick 3
(Club now sees Barass pick as not good enough due to hawks finishing higher)

I guess everyone wants to win trades but fans have to realise there are different values. When you are near a premiership as freo is I think you have to go full throttle. There's a lot of talent there and they have to get bolton as he can turn a match. No one in the draft like him.

Gold Coast, from what is said, dimma is sifting through who works hard and who doesn't which is why lukocious is out. Rioli adds dash to their backline and a player who has done what it takes for 3 premierships.

Baker to West Coast is the harder one as they aren't near it, so their ceiling of what to spend on the trade is probably less, but he is also out of contract. Only thing that helps us there is he doesn't want to be shafted.

Graham, I guess we tried to up the WC offer by offering 4 years ourselves, either a good compo pick or we hang onto him. If we didn't have hopper or taranto I think the need to keep him would be greater.

4 retirements and 4 outs is 8 list spots, which with our picks I think are all top 40? So we are bringing quality in.

I'm not sure if anyone else is following the trades board but just to keep you all posted it looks like most of the picks we have earmarked for Rioli have gone to other teams to suit their Houston, Lukosius trades and even Freo's 1st rounders have gone to other teams in pick swaps to get their trades over the line.

Oh, and don't bother with looking at North's pick 2 because some Port fans have even taken that pick in part of the Houston trade. LOL

Looks like we are going to be stuck with Rioli & Bolton. Probably only get a pick 40 for Graham. :tearsofjoy:

Rubbish.

Crawford, Croad, Williams, Bateman, Brown, Hodge, Osborne, Ladson, Mitchell and Sewell were all drafted before they “bottomed out” (they finished second last) in 2004. That’s nearly half their 22 in their 2008 premiership side.

They had been building that list since the 90s/early 00s and shot up the ladder after drafting Roughead, Franklin, Lewis and Young which is a generational draft haul.

The foundation was clearly there prior to 2004. Who on our list is our Shane Crawford? Sam Mitchell? Luke Hodge? Brad Sewell? We don’t have any. And if we did they won’t be there when we challenge again.

You’re vastly underestimating the existing talent on Hawks list prior to 2004 and it’s far superior to what we have.

Compare apples with apples.
You're definitely using the benefit of hindsight here. Back at the end of 2004 no one thought most of those players were premiership quality. Even Hodge's quality was being doubted for a #1 pick given how Judd & Ball had started their careers.

I agree that it typically takes a lot longer than people think to rebuild a team, but no team coming off a dynasty has ever rebuilt with the number of 1st round picks that we'll be using in a 4-year period (2022-2025). There's still some young premiership quality players on our list and we started our rebuild 2 years ago.

What's funny is all this talk around Collingwood looking at such and such, Blues want a pick to get player X. GWS or Port trading players Y & Z yet the only big movers and shakers are us and we are sitting back saying absolutely nothing.
given some of the names being discussed, i'm much happier doing as we are.

all deals go through us this year

we're going to shite on everybody

Yeah, That Geelong team must be a REAL bunch of dum-dums making their delisting's 48 hours after they lost their Prelim.
When we trade Coulthard & Cumberland, im gonna laugh real hard at their idiocy.....

It's pretty "rock bottom" when you are the last person to realise, you are no longer the smartest person in the room.
we still have lots to play out, incl seeing how many list spots we have etc. as for the bottom line here, i never thought we'd get an early 20's pick for Graham. so u got the wrong #.

Whether they were or weren’t considered premiership quality at the time is irrelevant. The point is they were premiership quality and they were existing players on Hawthorn’s list prior to their super haul.

Do you feel we have similar talent on our list? Keeping in mind there’s a few premierships, a couple of Brownlows and a couple of North Smiths amongst the Hawthorn crop?

Also, there’s a reason why we have so many high picks. We’ve gut our last after finishing last and winning two games for the season. Expecting anything other than a wooden spoon next year is extremely optimistic.

1,6,9,10,13- sound good!! (don't really want to waste any picks to move to #2 or #3)
  • 3 x mids, there are plenty to choose from at least 10 !
  • 2 x KPP, there are at least 5 to pick from

With any picks in the 20s we can look at gaps/needs or trade for a couple of mature players, like Peatling from GWS.
Exactly

I suspect draft 5-6 kids 2-3 trades inbound , maybe a swap into next year tho that may come on draft night like last year where we harvest r2s to slide 2-3 spots

It's actually quite relevant as you're claiming that we don't have the same quality as they had on our list at present.

Unlike Hawthorn we have Lynch Nankervis Vlastuin Broad Short Balta and possibly Graham who are already premiership players. None of the 2004 Hawthorn players you mentioned were that in 2004.

Also Hawthorn only got Hodge and Mitchell because they traded out Croad & McPharlin. 3 years later with them as part of the side they finished 15th, level on points with us and 1% off last. The following year they finished 3rd last.

As I said yesterday there are plenty of similarities between the 2 sides, what will make and break us is how well we nail the next 2 off seasons.

In your mind they may be done.

GC wouldn’t be keen on 6 & 12 for Rioli. Unless Tigers throw in a future 2nd or later 20s pick this year for points.
And I don’t think 9 & 10 have been offered for Bolton. More 9 & 17.
- Freo also a chance to trade up the board with their picks. You could see them trade 9&10 for North’s Pick 2 and something. (My made up scenario)

Are West Coast really willing to fall back that far in the draft for Baker? They are on the re-build too and would love another gun next to Reid. No word of trades here yet. Draper, FOS, Lalor would look nice next to Reid. (My made up scenario)

It’s easy to live in a fantasy land and think we know how every trade will end up.
